  • The page says 36 months.

    • Read the t&c it allow 24 months! I just got this deal added to my existing 24 months plan.

      • O thanks!

      • They added it to your existing plan? How long have you been on this plan?
I called up to see whether I could add it to my existing plan (4 months old) and they said it was only available if plan was purchased between July and August.

mobile plan 20GB: $45 * 24 = $1080 = that’s how you’re paying for the “free” watch, 2 x boost 300sim would cost cost you roughly $470 over two years for the same data

    • Am seriously thinking about choosing boost, coles sim. Is there any downfall comparing to major companies, like throttled internet speed etc? Currently with Vodafone paying $38/month sim only !

      • +3

Go with Boost. You wouldn’t be disappointed

      • If your not already familiar with telstra coverage in your area, get a cheap boost sim and test it out.

      • -1

Should just jump over to prepaid sim if you don’t need the feature like Number share for Apple Watch! Don’t waste your money with the big 3 (Telstra, Optus and Vodafone)

      • Boost/Telstra throttles speeds .. just start doing Facebook, Instagram or youtube live and it just does not work. It worked with Vodafone and Optus and their MVNO. Boost is gets same treament as Telstra prepaid - no esim and telstra points.
Call quality is perfect with Telstra :)

    • yeah, this deal not sound that great..

      20GB per month
      optus = 240GB/12months for $540

      vs

      boost = 260GB/12months for $300

Alot of people don't even need/use 260GB per year so could downgrade to lower data e.g. 140GB = $200.
Boost also regularly have sales on which drop the price even further..

So you're spending minimum $1320 for apple watch.
Paying full price for an Iphone and subscribing to a carrier with no service. It's a really bad deal.

    • Carrier with no service?

      • -1

        Optus

    • Yeap.. not a good deal
and $1200 for iphone 13 mini

  • Is OP related to Airly the subscription private jet company?

    • no

I get why people sign up to these wild 24/36 month phone contracts as they probably don't have the money upfront but man after buying my phones outright and then just paying for a super cheap good pre paid carrier such as aldi, boost etc it just makes these deals seem like highway robbery.

    • +2

I tried Aldi and it was terrible at my location :(

      • That's unfortunate! Works perfect in my area runs through Telstra and coverage isn't an issue at all.

Couldn't agree for more. Especially if some of the postpaid plan (not sure about this one) comes with limited international call plan and you missed the alert and get stung by the overcharge bills.

With prepaid, if your international credit is depleted, you won't be able to make that call. it's rather a good reminder.

I guess everyone is different, different needs, different solution approach

    • Totally agree. If pre-paid sim is good enough for you, this deal is more a robbery!

      • Well if you value money it’s an easy switch to pre paid.

  • +2

I love it how you say free watch. Then proceed to show how expensive the package is haha

    • LOL … this deal is not for everyone. But if you have to stick with Optus for whatever reason (e.g. NumberShare for the Apple Watch, only Telstra, Vodafone or Optus has this feature), this might be a good deal to look at.

      • +1

If you want to throw money at Optus for another 2-3 years and not actually save money, then I guess it could make sense.

I have an existing phone on deal for iPhone 13, will I able to add watch alone now?

    • worth talking to them and find out.

  • +1

You can also price match 5G devices. You can get the iPhone 13 for $400 off matching Vodafone’s price. This is stackable to the free watch offer. Now that’s a good deal.

    • Wow that’s very good deal!

    • I have tried and they won’t price match and do the free Watch :(

    • Thanks 🙏 .. Called Optus sales today and got them to price match Vodafone for an iPhone 13 Pro plus the Apple Watch offer. Also gave me a 50% port in discount for 12 months on the phone plan since I would be porting from Telstra to Optus.

  • wtf, 36 month plan. F#$^ THAT!!!!

I just got off the 12 month plan from telstra, i will never do 24 months, and im hoping no one ist stupid enough to sign up for 36 months? that's just crazy

    what they advertise:

    The perfect pair.
    Buy any iPhone 13.
    Get Apple Watch
    Series 7 for $0.
When you add an eligible SIM plan and remain on a Watch Promo Plan for 36 months.

$1200 for iPhone 13 mini? Which world do we live in? I paid less than $1200 for iPhone 13 last week at OW.

    • How did you get it for that price?

      • +1

I price beat skyphonez who had it for $1234 that day and got it for $1172 from OW.

Few days later, it was Telstra day and I price match at JB for $999 for another phone - that was some ripper deal IMO.

  • Has anyone tried the following?

Cancel the mobile plan after 1 month and pay off for the phone. Keep the watch and the watch plan going?

I read the terms and conditions that only say that the watch plan needs to be active for 24 months for the watch to be free once this offer has started. It does not say that you have to pay off the watch after you canel the mobile plan.

But when I have reached out to the optus sales chat, they keep saying that I will have to pay off both phone and watch if I cancel the mobile plan

    Not sure what to do

    • you might be able to do that.
I can see from my monthly bill that I am getting a monthly credit for my watch (which is under my watch plan) and as expected being charge the phone on a monthly basis too. (which is under my phone plan)

Unless they have some magics to link the watch plan and the phone plan, otherwise when you cancel the phone plan, you just have to pay off the phone. as long as you didn't cancel your watch plan. (I didn't do it tho, so you will need to try that at your own risk)
