Baby White Noise / Music Machine

Looking for recommendations for a white noise / music device for a (3 months old tomorrow) baby. We tried the Nodiee Sleep Assist Smart but found the audio fidelity lacking. Looking for a similar device that has an inbuilt library of white noise and/or calming music to help bub get to & stay asleep.

Cheers in advance.

Hey mate, we've used the Euky bear for 16 months. She's been great. We had a cheaper one break and took it back for a refund. Don't forget baby bunting has a free voucher on sign up and beat competition prices. https://www.babybunting.com.au/product/euky-bear-sweet-dream…

I sometimes use my Google Nest Mini (2nd Gen) to play white noise or ambient sounds when I sleep. If you already own a smart speaker, try asking Google to play some white noise or rain sounds.

      "Hey Google, play lullabies… "

      works well…

    • Does it ever play ads or anything if you ask it to play sounds or music?

Nope. No ads, you do not need a YT Premium subscription either.

  • If you're having issues with sleep consider renting a snoo.. Kindershare has a bunch in most cities for rent. For us it really worked (baby 1 wouldn't sleep during the day unless he was on top of one of us, baby 2 was the same until we got her into a snoo — gave us back our days!)

The snoo white noise is also on spotify (search for happiest baby). Now that ours little one has transitioned to a big bed, i've set up a spotify playlist with the snoo white noise to run for 10 hours….

    • Not so much issues as just aiding the process. She's been really good for so little, we just wanted a more fluid solution than leaving one of our phones playing a youtube track in the room for an hour at bedtime.

Just bear in mind that what you're doing now may create a crux, and she'll never sleep without it, which puts a further burden on the coming years

In reverse, same to those who turn the tv down when baby goes sleep etc. Light vs dark room etc

        • I was about to make the same comment as spackbace - can cause problems if you don't have access to the device and they are dependent on it to go to sleep.

    • Do they even still make CD players?

      • probably, they still make blank CDs, i assume they wouldn't bother unless CD players are still being made.

could always look on gumtree, one of my friends is a collector of vintage audio gear, as well as modern, and he has found some decent stuff on there which was still in working condition.

even records are still being made, record players as well.

We've used this for our daughter for the past few years:

    https://www.babybunting.com.au/product/tiny-love-into-the-fo…

It does the job, sounds nice and the auto turn-off function works well. Looks like there might be a newer model available now.

There seems to be a lot more choices now compared to when we were looking, so there is probably a better option than this.

I've considered getting a nest mini or similar speaker so can just stream from our own playlist, but what we have is working so haven't needed to find another solution (yet).

    • Just noticed everyone else's comments while I was typing this out.

A good thing about having a dedicated device for this is that other family members (grand parents) can use it without too much trouble!

Used this for just less 14 months and it’s been amazing because it has a 10 hour diffuser and red light to be able to see at night. I recommend to everyone but it is slightly more expensive than others.

  • We use a Bose SoundTouch 10, connected to Spotify. Because it’s wifi based (vs Bluetooth) phone is still operable and wont cut out when a call comes in.
Another advantage, its useable once baby no longer needs it and you don’t have another fancy baby gadget in the closet gathering dust.
Worked fine for us for two kids, I myself kinda find it hard now to sleep with the noise!
A cheaper alternative is to get a Amazon Echo dot.
Another one is just a simple radio alarm clock and set it to a channel in-between stations = white noise, without wifi etc!

I’m using an old BT speakers connected to an iphone6. Found a 11 hour long white noise video on YouTube and it plays that.

I just used my old phone and downloaded free white noise apps. There are some good ones where you can even combine noises (rain + beach + thunder etc) or just the diff types of noises such as brown, pink, white, vacuum, fan. Just search for the highest ratings in the play/app store, I used iPhone and samsungs for it. No ads, sound plays for as long as you leave it (also can set timer). On airplane mode the phone battery lasts overnight for me.

Calm app + old phone or cast/bt speaker.

Though unsure if your 3 month old is already an audiophile and cares about fidelity…

    • +1 used this for our new born.

    • The baby sleeps in the bedroom with us. The wife ordinarily plays a rainfall track when she sleeps, from her iPhone. The sound quality of the Nodiee was markedly inferior to that of the iPhone 8 handset, hence, fidelity is important.

  • For fan noises and white/pink/brown noise I recommend the Lectrofan. No nature noises on that one.

For everything noises the Sleepmac but I can't recommend it as highly as the Lectrofan because I haven't been using for it years with no problems like the Lectrofan. Only bought it a couple of weeks ago.

  • We use Alexa's and just say "Play ocean sounds". Works a treat.

  • I just use a CD player and burnt a white noise cd. Runs on repeat.

We've used a vtech turtle which has a button for different white noise and nursery stories and a dim night light. We picked it up a few years ago on sale, but they still sell them, https://www.babybunting.com.au/product/vtech-soother-storyte…

Bought this sound machine for $50 and it is brilliant. Love it. Lasts a long time, good shushing, white and pink noise, portable, light if you need it. We just leave it on for the whole sleep time.

  • We used an old phone and found some Spottily playlists. Worked perfectly.
