    • The processor is much faster, but this is an ordinary clamshell laptop (no 360 degree hinge) while the Surface GO is a tablet with a detachable KB.

    • bigger better screen, we also have a few of those available!

  • Looking good.

Would you be able to highlight any listings which are powered through usb-c, please?

Also is the surface 2 worth the additional $100?

    • +1

both use normal Microsoft surface chargers (65w)

      • Thanks. Yep found this link answering my questions also

    • +2

Just in case you're not already aware, you can get USB-C to Surface connector cables - so if you already have a USB-C female charger like an Apple one, you can use that with this.

      • -1

        Think you mean male.

      • +1

I've tried a few and I'm yet to find one that's not a total piece of crap. I would be happy to hear suggestions if you have any.

        • +1

I used the Cygnet one without issues. I've also got one of the Microsoft official connectors (black brick thingy) that works a treat.

I did get a ghetto eBay one and that works alright except it's starting to fall apart.

The main thing for me was making sure the USB C charger is adequate (aka a phone one won't normally cut it)

    • +1

I've had both 1 and 2. Not much difference, other than feeling slightly faster.

  • looks good

  • Surface Go $30 more expensive than last time?

    • 256gb internal?

    • yeah that was a sale, now at normal price with limited stock

      • Only 128 and not 256 ssd?

        • yeah 128gb ssd

  • -1

    does it come with charger?

    • +7

Did you actually open the link, it says that it does in the package contents.

    • +3

yeah ofc! will come with the stock charger

  • +3

Nice laptop, but once the battery is gone, can’t replace it.

    • Really? Care to elaborate?

      • +2

Look up Microsoft Surface tear down. I think it’s got the worst score ever for repairability. Microsoft don’t even do repairs on it, they only do replacements.

        • +1

Good to know mate. I was going to pull the trigger. Pass!

        • The newer versions are much better in this regard. But yes there's basically no way to get into the earlier gen models, everything is glued together. Boo for disposable laptops

    • Going on almost 4 years with 3 at work and a personal one with zero issues.

  • Do you have some actual photos? How much wear and tear are on the keyboards?
How is the battery capacity? Good as new or non-existance?

    • …All Grade A ( Battery life 80-100% original capacity).

      • But how does one know that they are 80->100% original capacity?

        • Running this report gives you a pretty good idea of battery condition, I'm assuming they have done this or similar:
          https://au.pcmag.com/batteries-power/85991/how-to-check-your…

          • +1

@Warchest: Yep that's it! So the battery capacity is given from that report , plus the cycle count.

            • @FuseTechAu: But this only shows "Since OS was installed" and not from day one when battery was first used i.e. the BIOS doesn't store history hence this report is stored in Windows. I am happy to stand corrected.

Regardless: It's easy enough to test the battery. Fully Charge it and unplug, Work away for the day with screen brightness on say 65% Turn off Battery Saver. See how many hours you get. :-).

    • I've got one (I've had from new) it's at 80% life now and still runs far longer than my brand new Dell XPS 13. The battery life initially was already great, so even as it gets old it's still pretty impressive. It's a once a day charge kinda thing (when I'm at uni), sometimes I'd forget to charge it and I'd still get a few hours out of it.

  • +2

Keen to see how nasty the alcantary is on the wrist area

    • +3

      moisty

    • This makes it a no-go as a second hand item IMO. Kinda disgusting.

      • It's not impossible to clean. Mine has some pretty obvious wearing/oil accumulation which is pretty gross thinking about it but if it's cleaned off using with a bit of soap (MS has a guide) it shouldn't be too bad.

  • -4

Could have posted these last night.

  • Any Gen 8 versions, need to run Windows 11 and it's not supported before Gen 8.

  • +1

The most concern part is the battery life, normally the Refurb ones come with shorter battery life, and replacement of battery costs fortune.

    • +1

Yeah there's no replacing the batteries on these (as in I don't think it's worth it). But I don't know if it's a deal-breaker.

My laptop is the same as these but I've owned it since new. The battery is at 80% (so bottom end of what they're selling) and it works fine. The initial battery life is actually really good, so at 80% it's still good. It lasts longer than the brand new laptop I bought to replace it. I can easily watch a movie or two on it without recharging.

It's not one of those laptops you'll have to keep connected 24/7 like typical old ones when the battery dies.

  • +2

Thermal throttle is horrendous on these. I have a newer one for work and in summer it caps at 300-400mhz

  • +1

I own a V1 surface laptop (bought at launch) and the battery performance is still amazing. I only just bought a V3 (from the ozb link) because I loaded a profile for everyone in my family and I ended up laptop less at times. Alcantra cleans pretty easily with a sponge. also ms can be conned into thinking you deserve support for your new laptop which is nice.

  • Just wondering if This one or a Macbook Pro 2015 ( I saw on Ebay around 450-500 , Core i5). I understand the difference in Windows / Mac, but isnt the Mac 2015 better specs ?

    • +1

The surface will have a better CPU than the 2015 Mac (if it's the 13" one) and a better screen. Too my knowledge

    • +2

I'd get the Surface. The Mac won't get any future software updates. This will get Windows 10 updates for another 5 years and then you can install windows 11 on it even if it isn't officially supported.

  • When battery completely become cactus, can the Surface still be used powered directly by charger?

    • +1

I would think so and yet to come across a notebook that would not start without a battery.

  • does this come with international warranty?

  • +1

Do you guys ever do Surface Pro deals?, just got a new job and will need to purchase a sufrace pro and would love to support you guys.

    • +1

These are Refurbs and not new. What are you looking for? I agree, these guys are great and look after you.

      • Yeah refurb is better, save $$$. I've bought so many laptops privately off marketplace and can't be bothered this time round so would rather buy from a cool company and always see fusetech here of OZB so would like to support them.

        • Yeah a few weeks back they had nice Refurb A Grade Surface Pro5 i5 Gen-7 8gb Ram 256gb SSD Keyboard 1 yr warranty for $399. Great price especially with the 256gb hdd. Using one right now. Hopefully if lucky OP can source more or later Models (with 256GB HDD).

          • @Borg: Yeah that would've been perfect, lets hope in the coming weeks they have something cool, I have a couple of months that I can use a lender which is good.

      • +2

Well thank you! As for surface Pros we're still currently searching but it's definitely on our top list of products to get

        • Amazing, I'll keep my eye out here on OzBargin.

    • You could probably get a surface 4/5 complete for $250-300 on gumtree/ebay, although quite a number seem to be suffering from pressure marks/white spots issue.

      • I looked around Gumtree and it waa somewhat more for an A grade SP5 with Keyboard. Issue with Gumtree is no warranty. I would rather buy from these guys here or the likes. One gets looked after if any issues.

        • Agreed, you will always find a potential score on Facebook or marketplace, however the 1 year warranty is always a nice safety net for most people.

  • I just got a new Surface Laptop 4 from work. I was excited about the soft material on the keyboard but it came with bare metal. It's a 13.5inch Ryzen 7 and the battery life is terrible. It's like 4 hours, if that.

But mostly I just have no idea why on earth it's called an "ultra portable". It's exactly like every other laptop?

  • I’ve ran this laptop for a few years. Battery life is great if you’re just using office apps/YouTube etc. does get hot and you need to be careful not to get the alcantara dirty.

Just note if you plus in an external display this thing really starts to struggle with a few applications open. This is on w10 so unsure how it will be with w11. It is a 2 core i5 after all.

    • I have windows 11 on it and it's fine. Windows 11 isn't (imo) much different from windows 10 in terms of how heavy it is to run so it appears the same.

The external display issue I've only noticed when I am dual screening. If I'm only using the external display I'd say it even runs faster than normal.

  • +1

Don't waste your time getting any intels CPU below 8th gen. 1st - 7th Gen are dual core and 8th gen above are quad cores. Pay a bit more and get the I5-8350U if you can

    • -5

Yes don’t waste your time with 4 core for light work duties.

Definitely need 6 core for office apps and multiple instances of Seti@Home

      • Go troll somewhere else please

    • +1

agree - have a i5 6300u, 16gb and ssd too but it just chuggs even daily usage switching windows, team calls

  • +1

I missed on these surfaces. Can you please restock surface laptop 2?

  • Just received mine today (MICROSOFT SURFACE LAPTOP 2 - 13.5" 2K | I5-8350U | 8GB | 128GB @$460). not very impressed.

The alcantara material around the keyboard looks pretty disgusting with brown sweat marks all over the fabric, clearly very, very used.

Also ran a windows battery report and it shows a full charge capacity of 28,460mWh with a design capacity of 45,200mWh (less than 63% of original capacity), with a cycle count of 107.

The right speaker sounds distorted if the volume is set above 50%.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

Hopefully FuseTech are good to deal with.

    • Hi!

We'll get that sorted for you!

      • Hi FuseTechAu
just sent you a private message to organise a return and refund.

        thanks

        • My keyboard looks pretty gross also. Havent tested battery yet but will definately need to check that out.

  • Placed my order for a Surface Laptop 2 and got a confirmation on 2/7. Just received a message this Monday that my order is cancelled because there's not enough stock. Pretty disappointed.. but looking at the recent comments, I might've dodged a bullet on this one

  • I don't know if fusetech are in too deep or incompetent, or worse, speculating.

I ordered the same Surface Laptop 2 as above, in stock, and paid for in full same date as above poster, and with express courier fees.

Nothing materialised for a week, but upon asking about the courier fee, I received a stock response, stating the item out of stock, and subsequently refunded a few days later.

They never replied back to my disappointed email, perhaps it's because the very same surface 2 laptops and specs (more than 10 available) were listed by the same seller on eBay at a price greater than the deal here. I did point that out to them.

One for the watching I'd say, based on my own experience with them.

    • Hi! DM your order number and ill follow it up for you
