Are Dealership Service Departments Allowed to Charge over The Capped Price Servicing Pricing?

I recently had my MG serviced at the dealership and was charge $50 extra for what they claimed was misfiring in one of the cylinders. They first gave me a call about this issue and assured me it would be covered under warranty but when I went to pick up the car today they charged me an additional $50 for the sparkplugs. They said it was a new addition to the servicing plan and hence was a planned replacement which isn't covered under warranty so the capped price doesnt apply. I pointed out that it states in their terms and conditions that the current prices they quote are valid till 31st December 2022 but they still refused to honour these prices.

Are dealerships allowed to charge over their own capped price?

For those curious my vehicle is: a 2020 MG ZST Excite

This is a case of a dealer making up their own pricing, not a change in pricing from the factory which is what that line above refers to.

  • So is your car under warranty or not? That is where i will spend my effort over $50 not capped price.

    • I've been servicing at the dealership so it should be under warranty. So do you think I should be trying to claim the sparkplugs under warranty?

Ring MG Australia and complain about the dealer overcharging.

    • Annoyingly I cannot find a phone number for them only a web form under contact us. Guess thats to be expected for a budget brand. Hopefully they respond to my message soon.

Redirecting calls to mainland China is expensive

        • And then sub contracted to Mongolia to save even more money.

For that model spark plugs aren't due until 40,000km, so if they needed replacing earlier it should have been done under warranty.

    • I'll call the service department and try that. Thanks for the help.

Thanks, they have now agreed to refund me.

2 year old MG, spark plugs should not need changing unless you've done a tonne of k's.

And i'm firmly in the this should come under the capped price servicing and i wouldn't take that, even if it is $50.

Out of interest was the car actually misfiring when you brought it in?

    • I didnt know it was misfiring before i brought it in but i do remember some vibrations when stopped at traffic lights.
