Overpurchased Microsoft Gift Cards - Need Advice

My partner had to purchase a laptop from the Microsoft site so I purchased some GCs from Reward Gateway.

I was not aware the MS has an upper limit of $1500 for credit balance, so I purchased GCs worth the same as the price of the laptop (around $3600).

I had to place the order (with 2100 charged on the Card) but now I have about $2100 of GCs left. There was one single order of $3600, and RewardGateway alerted that the order can't be refunded if opened.

But at that point in time, I was not aware of the top limit of Microsoft's wallet.

In retrospect, I know it's my fault for not researching properly before placing such a high-value GC order.

What are my options now?

Please helpful responses only as I am already feeling too bad.

Find some other stuff to buy for 'work' then sell it off and claim the tax deduction.

Or sell the gift cards directly if possible.

    • Thanks. What's the best way to sell GCs?

            .

      • You can sell gift cards here on OzBargain (or obviously also on Gumtree/FB Marketplace), at a discounted price though, probably around 10-15%.

If you do decide to sell, meet up with them in person and get cold hard cash, or do it through PayPal or atleast make sure that you get the funds first BEFORE giving the buyer the gift card. Do a background check on their profile as well.

          That's a good advice. Thanks.

PayPal is a terrible idea. PayPal transfers can be reversed

Ensure you have cash or osko transfer and the money is cleared in your bank account.

      This sounds like tax fraud.

Yeah pretty much on the same scale as $1k a day tradies working 7 days a week taking in $200k+ a year but average salary is $76k

The income is split with non working spouse. $100k ute every 3 years and the other half is driving the work SUV worth $60k. Materials bought for jobs disappearing into primary place of residence.

Buy xbox series x as they appear and re-sell for rrp (for the love of god make it cash only if you are seriously considering)

  • Buy Xbox Series X and sell at a small loss on each one? The price can't have dropped that much on them yet…

  • I already bought Xbox Series X a couple of months ago

You need to think like Broden. Buy them all.

Buy a second one so you can play multiplayer with your girlfriend.

They meant you buy it and sell it straight away to others, effectively convert GCs to XBox, and XBox to cash.

you loss less money than sell the GCs straight away.

  • I have about $2100 of GCs left

    Buy another laptop.

Buy a Zune or a Windows Phone.

  • buy yourself a laptop too or help your other family member to buy laptop

If you have a friend/colleague/family member needing to buy anything from MS store, you can offer to buy it for them…. or buy it for them at say 5% discount. This includes headset, surface, xbox, etc.

or buy XBox and sell on Gumtree.

    • 😃

    • Should get a good discount, ask MS to make it 30 years.

  • A $3600 laptop? 😮 What did you get?
