Ultimate Wood Heaters Breaking Price Display Rules?

I was looking for a wood heater and came across their website. Under all of their prices they state All Prices are PLUS GST. Upon checking out it adds the GST on top of the price. See example

Government clearly states it will need to be a part of the price shown. These guys have been around for so long. How could such a big company get away and avoid repercussions for so long?

  • Prices PLUS GST - am I missing something?

    • Ok , I see. But there is exception in the case of busienss to business, even this company does offer direct to customer too.

    • This ad is particularly misleading.

RRP: $3,998 (surely that includes GST)
      Sale price: $3,445
      SAVE: $553

      Except, $3445 + GST = 3789.5

      A saving of only $208.5

      Tsk Tsk Tsk..

      BUUUUUT

More importantly - the reviews for the wood heaters these peanuts sell are pretty gnarly… I'd stay clear regardless.

Get a Nectre MK2 or Mega and never look back.

  • Got to love the "Big National Retailer" who are called national fires that no one has read about since the last black fires…..

    • Sorry ultimate fires, which they were and did they burn allot of the east coast.

  • Egads….

  • I heard their wood heaters aren't that great anyway.

    • Wood heaters do not adhere to the 2050 zero emissions requirement….

neither do the private jets that the elite love to take across the world to lecture us about emissions.

i'm keeping my heater, it's never going to make a difference unless we move away from a consumer based society, which is never going to happen.

The ACCC GST Price Line [1300 302 502] continues to receive complaints about businesses not including GST in advertised prices.

Yep, illegal. It's called component pricing.

Section 48 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 is the specific legislation.

You can anonymously (or not) report consumer issues to the ACCC here.

  • It's not uncommon for businesses that mainly sell to other businesses (like installers) to not include GST, though I don't know why.

Don't get a wood heater. Full stop.
I have a few around me & Winter time sucks. Low hanging smoke haze everywhere, smelly air, can't hang washing on the line, can't open windows.

Sure I know there are different quality wood heaters which shouldn't emit such a foul pollutant but they're just a carbon burner. Ban 'em I say.

Disclaimer - I live rural and have a woodheater (was in property when we bought it).

Unfortunately from what i can see a lot of folks who have them really don't know how to use them properly - in short IF you have yours running well you should be able to walk outside & observe that your chimney is putting out no or very little visible smoke. Too many folks have chimneys that are gushing black smoke - which says to me they're either using improperly seasoned wood, have the airflow turned down too low, have overloaded the firebox etc.

We've been here near 6yrs - only light up on sub-5c nights and then only burn for long enough to heat the house up before bed. Never had to buy wood as clearing existing unwanted trees (that were suitable as fuel) has provided ample.

IMHO the bigger issue in rural areas with air quality is folks doing pileburns of garden waste - if done properly it burns cleanish - but too often is green or wet material that will smoulder & pollute heavily for hours.

Sorry to say it but woodburners in suburban areas should be phased out - as again there's just too many folks that don;t burn them properly and while I have hundreds of metres to the nearest neighbour they're right on top of folks.

Alas it's simple tech but folks just are ignorant to the basics of how to use and consideration to their neighbours.

PS. And for the OP, Ultimate are known to make poor quality, horrendously overpriced products - save yourself the hassle and just avoid them.

      • Thanks mate I've ruled them out already. Salesman used dodgy tactics so steering clear.

        • @Caghan no worries - FWIW are you chasing a convection or radiant heater? The vast majority on the market are the former, which are also significantly higher in price than the radiants. That said, I do think a lot of folks aren't advised or clued up on which one better suits their homes.
