    • I contacted them & they said Perth will be available around the end of July.

    • There are companies operating in Perth already who offer this service. The one I used from Recycle for Refund, they have a mobilr app you can download and can also request a free bin (not available in all areas).

  • +2

Melbourne coming soon so i guess this won't work as of right now.

  • I found this ; "Skip the return point with ReCollect and use code RECYCLEEASY for a 100% return on your first pickup. Limited Time Offer". Also the code FUELSAVER gives you 100% back on your first collection.

  • +2

containers for change in qld pick it up for free and give you the full 10c just you need at least 100 item per pickup

  • -1

Wait for the next gen of recycling machines that are coming, They even clean the ….., sorry wrong news show.

  • I tried taking mine in for a month or two.
I got about $20 back per week but I,m to lazy.
I would be happy with $10 per week if i dont drive there.

Probably cost me $5 in fuel anyway.

    • +1

Damn how much coke do you drink. It takes months for us to rack up $30 worth

      • Theres water bottles too.

        • +4

This is ozbargain. Aren't you using the tap?

          • @odysseus: In a rental, the tap became nasty! :p Was using Brita - when the tap was good - then the filters moved over to China too.

        • Don't you have an intap filter or brita jug?

          • @krisspy: Luxury. Drinking straight from the faucet at work saves the need for a cup.

          • @krisspy: see above for reply :)

        • Also juice boxes, 1.2l drink bottles, just noticed even the little Yakult bottles have a 10c deposit on them too (well it was Aldi brand but I assume they all do, don't often get them).
They all add up.. glass bottles are PITA to store though, at least can flatten the rest.

That said, most of mine are still Coke cans ;)

          • @bamzero: Op said he gets $20 a week = 200 containers a week/ 28 a day

            Surely that's a small reataurant.

          • @bamzero:

just noticed even the little Yakult bottles have a 10c deposit on them too (well it was Aldi brand

No, unfortunately they don't give you 10c for them.

            • @LFO: The Aldi ones have the 10c refund printed on them, but no barcode and nothing comes up searching by name on the containersforchange site.
Haven't actually tried returning any of them yet so guess will find out.

              • @bamzero: Yes I tried and I vaguely remember it says something like redeemable in SA or some other condition.
If you have some old/empty containers of the Aldi ones please copy&paste and post.

As I said, I took a few and the assistant gave them back to me showing me why; but I cannot exactly recall why not :-(
                But it sounded right.

      • I drink beer not coke

  • Do they service Melbourne currently?

    • No. Melbourne/Victoria doesn't currently have a CDS so there is nowhere for them to take them. We will get a CDS in 2023 though, so they may be looking at expanding when that happens.

  • +4

This is an excellent deal especially since I was making 0 and now I can make 7 cents per can, think this will actually make people sort their cans out and start making money to pay off the bills

  • +1

    They do a lot more!

ReCollect is everything you need to recycle your bottles, cans, mobile phones, electronics, and clothes from the comfort of your couch.

Those items in bold would generate revenue - rare earths!

  • +1

This isn't a deal, more like service offering, unless their standard rate $0.05 instead of $0.03 or something.

    • You're right… though the new ozbargain doesn't require a special, deal or bargain as such (per previous discussion).

    • Perhaps 3c fee is an introductory offer to get customers.

  • Time for us Victorians to start hoarding all our recycling in the garage and waiting for these guys instead of paying for the government to take it off our hands

  • +2

Yeah not sure if anyone on the thread here has returned cans in the ACT but it can sometimes be over half hour in line with deafening sounds of cans bottles etc etc. This would be way easier and easily worth the cost of 3c per can. The way some people are carrying on here it's like their life depends on recycled can earnings.

    • FYI for ACT you can just chuck them in translucent garbage bags (kitchen bin bags), drive to one of the Drop and Go points, print off some labels on the machine there and then dump the bags in the bins. (You also initially need to fill in a form online to get set up.) Money in your account with them within about 2-3 working days.

You are going to have to do at least half of that work to get these guys to take your cans, so may as well save the 30% and drive to the drop off yourself.

      • I've done the drop and go as well and it's okay but it's still time. People have different marginal time values and I just couldn't get it to work.

    • I never had to wait 30min in ACT, just avoid weekends perhaps ?😬

  • not available in NT :(

  • I collect and give all my bottles to a mate, i know a couple who seem to have friends and families give them all their cans and bottles. They said they usually clear about 2.5k a year
which sounds like a lot but i guess maybe i just dont drink much.

    • +1

      $2500 = 25,000 individual cans/bottles yeah? That’s means they collect an average of 68 a day!

      • +1

Our group of about 30 families does about 5000 containers every 10 weeks for fundraising.

      • Yup like i said, they have a lot of people just giving them what they have as they cant be bothered taking it to the collection site.

  • +1

Should probably start saving up for Victorian bottles in 2023..😂😂😂

  • I normally put them (anything from 10-100) into a bag or box and leave on kerb side. Usually gone within the same day, and works well for those keen to make a few coins.

  • +1

Use code RECYCLEEASY for a full refund pickup (10 cents)

  • +1

What sort of environmentally friendly bag with an OzB price tag do people use to put the containers in for pickup?
    Looking at something like https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/103814/my-…

  • Used to do this free in the cub scouts. Yeah that may make you re-think your neg vote for stating the obvious.

  • +1

I have 1 container ready and have booked the service in for a pick up. Looking forward to my 7c

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

  • It's possible that the government may kick in an extra few cents for them. I've seen a few factories do it and give you the full 10c back and they're obviously not doing it for free.

  • +2

I think this is a great deal, don't understand all the whining.

I'm certainly not going to waste my time on a 40 min round trip to make 10c a can, they currently go into communal recycling.

  • +1

Definitely better than having people shifting through my recycling bin at night.

  • +1

Serious bunch of bloody complainers. Bloody hell.

  • There are buildings which don’t even have recycling or their recycling is filled with regular waste so it ends up being treated as regular waste. People in those buildings could benefit a lot from this. I personally couldn’t be bothered to take them for refund. So this is very helpful, saving the waste from going into a dump & recycling instead. I am just happy to see my recycle waste being picked up without me paying for it.

  • +1

Get ready for a post in a couple of days' along the lines of:

I left 97 items out but they only counted 93. What do I do?

    • Learn how to count ? 😄

  • This is very good. I was just thinking of the cost of petrol to and from the depot, waiting in line, etc. Simply not worth it. I doubt they operate in my town in Qld though. This is likely just capital cities.
Anyways, ppl simply don't care. Lots of talk, yet how many sit for prolonged periods in cars, engine and aircon running, probably saying the gov should do more on climate change, or having kids who can do so. Population is the problem. If you really want to help, remove yourself from the problem, or stop making kids. Simples. Although unpopular!

this is the most anti ozbargain thing ever

    • I actually agree with you. Ozbargain as a general principle is the most 'pay dollars to save cents' and 'time is worth nothing' community I've ever seen.

So this is very anti-Ozbargain in the scheme of things.

      • +1

'pay dollars to save cents' LOL true

I reckon this is an amazing service and something I'll take advantage of. I wonder how it works with Apartments though.

  • Do they rock up at your home with a trolley?

    • Trailer from experience.

      • +1

OK, do they rock up at your trailer with a trolley?

  • +1

with inflation cans should 15c now

    • -1

Without idiots doing the wrong thing, it should be 0c now.

  • +1

I have used them since they started in Canberra. I crush the cans to save space, my neighbour adds their cans and bottle and we have them collected every few weeks. Done properly we have enough for a case of beer to share and discuss world issues like pineapple on pizza. At the end of the evening the whole recycling process begins again with the empties.

    • Sounds good. You could expand the next discussion to why do they have an option of “burger with the lot, plus pineapple”? There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of what “the lot” means.

  • I drink beer.

  • Anyone know if there is a similiar business/service for scrap metal?

  • Had my first pick up today and it's super easy. Put bags out before work, got app updates through the process and by the time I had got off work the money was ready to cash out. Especially useful for getting rid of the containers that have reduced barcodes as the vending machines won't read them.

  • +2

This is actually a really good deal. Having dealt with trying to scan these bottles myself at a machine, I'd much rather pay the 3c and let someone pick it up.

Hopefully they open the Vic pickups soon

    • Have u tried bag drop off?

      • At one of the shops?

I assumed they sit there and count it? Or am I wrong?

I didn't actually think about it.

  • Do they actually remembered every single bottles that part of the recycling program?

  • Just remember you actually pay more than 10 cents for the scheme. On average in WA it cost you 13.93 cents to be able to potentially claim the 10 cents back.

The only people who might made money off this scheme are restaurant who charge you the drink and then claim your container back.

    https://warrrl.com.au/first-responsible-suppliers/#pricing

  • And we Victorians don’t even have this option

  • What's the minimum number for pickups?

    • Is there a minimum number of bags or containers?
1 bag with at least 150 containers. If you have smaller bags please have around 150 containers.

      • This detail should definitely be in the OP

  • +1

I think this may be a bargain to those who regularly go with a small number of items. We have 3x 240L bins to collect months worth of cans and bottles at a time. We even crush the cans to save on space. We go with easily 2-3k containers at a time so for my situation, it would eat significantly into 'profits'. But for those a bag or two at a time who don't really want the rubbish sitting in their place, I can absolutely see why this service is needed and a decent thing to have. It's a pass from me but great initiative to make some cash and help out with recycling efforts.

  • +2

I managed to get a free bin from one of these companies, and then they give you the option of bringing it in or having the bin collected. Nice to have an extra bin for it makes it easier to recycle, couldn't be bothered before.

  • Not s**ting on the deal or the service. But twice I have been done over for a pick up with everything ready to go (I collect a fair amount of 375ml tinnies, 2000+) and have been told the pick up truck is full (after being told I wasn’t present at the location). I live 10 minutes from the city and live in wa, not sure what it’s like elsewhere. But both times has put me off, I normally just wait till someone I know has a trailer and jump at the opportunity. But if it’s worked for you, bloody beyootaful moite

  • Honestly had an absolute poop of a time dealing with them in Perth on behalf of my folks. Used a code for the first pickup to be free and the count of cans was way off by easily 500 cans. Then on top of this the cashout took multiple weeks despite everything being requested correctly. Chasing it up with customer service was nearly impossible, the chat bot on the website gave nothing and weeks of no response via email. Their phone number wasn’t contactable at the time either.

Appreciate that it hasn’t been everyone’s experience with them but was a heck of a time nonetheless

  • +1

It is 7c a can/bottle which would otherwise go in the recycle bin and get nothing (councils get the 10c on self declared honesty system). So that is a deal.

Most people in NSW are not claiming them at the machine because the machines are too inconvenient to get to, too slow to feed one by one and wait in queue, and that's if the machine is even functioning at the time (usually full awaiting truck emptying because it doesn't compact them).

I have doubts anyone is going to come and collect a bag of 30 cans @3c each ($0.90 total for them) though.

In Sydney the street bins can be overflowing with cans in front of the beggars and they aren't even interested in the 10c ea.

  • As someone who usually tries to buy 1.25L bottles or the 2L ones this won't be worth it for me.

To get 150 containers i would probably need to fill 2-3 240L bin liners.

For the can drinkers yeah I can see this adding up.

70 cents off a $5 10 pack of cans is pretty good.

    • I buy 1.25 l bottles. I have an extra 240l bin I got at Bunnings and I put a cheap bin liner in it. I flatten the bottles (with barcode showing?) and put in the bin until full, remove the liner full of bottles when full and put full bag aside. Fill the bin a second time then call for a collect for the 2 bags and am credited around $25. The wheelie bin paid for itself after a couple of collections. It's no more hassle than putting them in the recycle bin, saves room in the recycle bin. (And I have the satisfaction of not contributing to Cleanaway profits who I have a grudge with :-) ).

      • How do ya flatten the bottles do you put it under the bin or just step on it

        Sounds like a nice idea

I wonder if they service my area

        Katoomba

        • I just flatten the middle section with my hands and thumbs as I bin it, just a 1 second no effort process that's now a habit.

          • @tonka: What information do you usually attach to the label when you put the bags outside. Do you put it on the sidewalk where you normally place the bins on bin night or inside your property line like on the lawn.

            • @AlienC: They give you a code to label the bags. I write it on a bit of packing tape and stick it to the bag. I've put the bags, sometimes in a trailer in my driveway or at bottom or my driveway inside property line, or in front of garage doors. As those bin liners are a bit fragile I usually put as close to street as I can to reduce their handling. You will be advised of a general pickup time.

              • @tonka: Ah I see nice.

Would it be okay you reckon to double bag the bottles or would they see it as a hindrance you reckon?

edit: damn according to this link https://re-collect.com.au/recycling/beverages I think my coles 2L juice bottles that have been repurposes as water bottles might not be allowed and there for not collected.. same with the 2L coles milk containers.. so only my 1.25L coca cola bottles might be accepted this reduces my compatibility a ton unfortunately

I contacted them via the website form but I think my area won't be under service but fingers crossed.

                • @AlienC: Can't see them having a problem with double bagging. I don't like it though, as I feel it defeats the spirit of recycling. If you have heavier glass bottles you can also put the empties back in the carton and leave that out. Personally I think the whole deposit scheme is a fail as it creates a huge amount of extra plastic waste that's non-recyclable through the bagging, and I don't believe it would redirect many containers towards recycling. Also it creates more emissions through the logistics of implementing it. Personally I think it's a disguised tax to supplement the waste industry and create jobs.

                  • +1

@tonka: Yeah it does feel a bit too good to be true.

Or very beauty is only skin deep type of scheme fiasco.

                • @AlienC: I think 1.5L is the limit for rebates.

                  • @ProlapsedHeinous: ah damn I have a mix of 2L and 3L bottles now I just been using it to store cooking oil to throw away for now and basically anything else that should not go down the sink/drain
