Sydney Kitchen Renovation Quotes and Suggestions

We are thinking of making some modification to the kitchen benchtop. It's an U shape kitchen with one side facing living area, this side has the sink and a high/narrow benchtop at about 1.3m that doubles up as a splashback. We want to lower this side to about 1.0m and install a wider benchtop so that we can sit at the other side.

The new benchtop will be about 2.6m x 1.0m, with cabinets under and additional power points, and may be some new lights on top. Don't think it will involve plumbing, but mostly carpentry and light electrical work. I have a vague idea that a 3m x 3m kitchen costs about $20k to renovate, including stone benchtops, polyurethane doors/drawers with soft close hinges and rails. But no idea if $10k can cover what we what to do.

Any reputable kitchen renovators in Sydney metro area you can recommend? Do they usually show you a render of how it will look or extra cost?

  • IKEA has a kitchen planner you can tinker with yourself here: https://kitchenplanner.ikea.com/au/UI/Pages/VPUI.htm

Or pop into a store and they'll mock it up for you with cost estimates. They have a decent range of affordable choices.

    Bunnings has one too: https://www.bunnings.com.au/diy-advice/planners-and-calculat…

These will help give you a baseline and you can then visit boutique stores for higher quality/finishes etc.

  • We used Granite Transformations Sydney South, they were excellent to deal with and benchtop resurfacing made it a bit cheaper (and less messy) than a whole replacement. They have a cost calculator on their site too. https://www.granitetransformationssydneysouth.com.au

  • $10k will not go very far in today's market. You may need to increase your budget, as per everything in the building industry at present.

Draw it up in one of those online planners, put the plan and scope of works up on hipages with photos, have 3 builders come out and get 3 competing quotes. Go from there!
