Just a thought, wouldn't Number Share ($5/month) make more sense if you have an existing post paid plan?

    • +1

Think you can only get number share for wearable devices (compatible Apple Watches or Samsung Galaxy Watches) these days, unless you have a legacy/grandfathered $5/mth physical sim plan they used to offer where you can use in tablets or 4G devices to use your pooled data.

      • +1

Sorry, should have qualified that by saying "if you have a watch"….obviously for tablets 10GB allowances makes more sense, just not for a watch!

      • Where does it say on post paid only?

    • Optus Choice Plus Watch Plan is usually $10, this promo brings it down to $5/month for 12 months, with an extra 1GB in your data pool.

Vs $5/month on it's own for Number Share with no extra data.

  • +4

    Any tab a8 deals lol

    • +3

they are using the same link as last time around but no free tab A8 :(

      • I tried to add the 30GB bonus data on that plan through Support, didn't work lol

    • +2

Still waiting for my tab A8 ~ RIP

      • +2

Hold out hope lol. I got mine at the end of last month which was a bit of a surprise.

        • +2

          Me too

    • +1

I was told by the rep it is once off deal. Not going to happen again. Plenty of a8 brand new selling at markets

    • +3

Haha i work at Optus. The deal was abused so badly that you can't get device discounts on any plan that isnt 24 or 36 months. People got the A8 over 12 months and just sold it for a profit. It was pretty crazy. Can't even get phones over 12 months with a discount anymore :p

  • No calls or text?

    • +2

Data only, however you can receive texts on the number provided

  • In the terms it states - "Discount will apply from second payment cycle."
I see that as meaning Full price first month then discount for 12 months after. Hopefully they don't stop applying the discount after 12 months of joining meaning you only get 11 months discounted.

    • Reverts to standard price after 12 months

  • Would be a deal if one could grab a phone with the plan.

  • +2

So they still have those outrageous credit check flaming hoops for their $7.50 plans? Pass.

    • Don't think so… just signed up. Have a $0.01 hold on my CC, no hit on the credit report under credit enquiries.. unless there is a lag in reporting.

      • Which one did you check? Better check all 3.

  • +1

Can you use this for home internet?

    • +1

      I don’t see why not

    • +2

Don't see why not. You could either stick the SIM in a device and hotspot or put it in a 4G router.

    • +1

Yes! Although don't try it with phone plan sims.

Had someone trying to use the 500gb $65 a month phone sim in a modem, it worked for a while before they got messages saying that the sim in their modem was incorrect and needed to be changed, which was appearing anytime they tried to use their browser.

  • If they had 400GB for ~40 that'd be a solid NBN competitor

    • Vodafone had this kinda deal a while ago in November - December 2021. Still going decent ( just not as good speeds as optus 5G)

  • +3

Good way of getting discounted Optus Sports.
Their upcoming price increase brings it up to $24.99 per month or $6.99 for Optus customers ( i.e. total of $14.49 if you select the cheapest plan in this offer).

    • +7

Or send them a clear message about their ridiculous price increase and look for an alternative.

      • -1

Inflation is everywhere. This isn't just an optus problem. Our sanctions are still in place so nothing will improve. Are you going to boycott everything?

        • +6

It was $15p/m … now $25p/m … for a sport that mostly screens between 12am-5am. I'd say it has nothing to do with the inflation pressures that are putting your milk & bread up by 30 cents or any sanctions our country has imposed. It's a greedy cash grab by Optus.

  • While 50% off is always nice, is there any advantage to taking these options over a (cheaper) long expiry Amaysim plan, for instance?

I'm asking specifically for tablet use.

    • No excess data?

      • Hmmm as in with the optus option, your speed just get throttled after you hit the cap, right? As opposed to just no data with Amaysim, etc.

  • +6

Don't forget cashback with cashrewards! got mine with $30 CB tracked

    • What plan did to choose?

    • +2

I guess i am missing something, if i go through cashrewards… I am not able to see the half price (i get only the double data). Can someone help me the click/navigate path in Optus site (which would lead to the https://www.optus.com.au/moa-mbb-offer?)

      • Appears to work if you use the Cashrewards browser extensions. Click the offer link here, then activate it via the extension.

  • cheapest one 10gb

    • Signup and cancel after 1 month. What is the downside guys?

  • combine with 500gb mobile plan for home internet and a mobile plan?

    https://www.optus.com.au/mobile/plans/shop?SID=con:mcat:3up:…

    • Don't think you can pool/share "Choice Plus" and "Plus" plans

Optus Choice Plus, Optus Choice Plus Data, Optus Plus Family and Optus Plus Kids plans can only share data with each other. Check your CIS document or My Optus app to check your plan.

      • yeh it does appear that way, but livechat says it is a choice plus :/

was anyone able to share the data with the samsung tablet deal before?

      • +2

All Plus plans share with each other. Non plus plans share with non plus plans, Plus plans share with Plus plans.

So if you're on an Optus choice plus sim plan for your phone, a connected watch plan plus for your smartwatch, and a choice plus data sim, all 3 of them will pool data together.

Same goes for family, as there is a plus and non plus version.

The only difference is that Plus is direct debited (from a debit/credit card).

  • So the cool deal for an solo OzBer with no need for speedy internet would be;
Optus's 10GB deal x 2, connect 2 modems to a dual WAN router and you get 20GB of speedy 4G data, before it shapes to 3mbps of unlimited data (enough for emails, browsing and a single stream).
    So $7.50 x 2 x 12 months = $180 for the year – minus the $30 on CB. $150pa, $12.50pm.
(Plus the cost of the modems and router if you did not already have them lying around).
Would not work for me, but it may be a good fit for someone…

    • can you share the dual wan router that enables (muxes) the two streams at once, I would assume it would be either one or the other in a dual sim router ?

      • There was a thread on here some time ago in which this was discussed, the Asus AC68 router was mentioned as one that does this

    • Dont forget tax deductions if its used 100% for work ;)

    • +2

Life is too short for 3mbps internet

  • +1

Deal is only available online as I tried to call them . Apply online only.

Was able to upgrade my exisiting $15 plan to the $7.50 one using the website, although the sales rep told me this isn't possible, they will ask you to cancel your exisiting $15 plan and purchase a new plan - LOL..

    • yes same, first someone calls from a dodgy number and asks for details - https://www.reverseaustralia.com/lookup/0280492850/3/ - but I guess it is Optus after all?

after refusing that guy, and asking through their app - was told such plan doesn't exist first :)

finally they admitted it does and advised to wait until the order gets processed - why call in the first place? telco stuff..

  • Dumb question, but do you have to sign up for 12 months. Or cancel any time, and the discount max is for 12 months?

    • but do you have to sign up for 12 months

Nope. Plans are month to month, so can cancel any time.

and the discount max is for 12 months?

Yep. Although I was about 3/4 of the way through my last '50% off 12 Month data' plan when I "recontracted" today, so there's a good to fair chance that you'll get an opportunity to renew again with an Optus offer before your old offer expires.

      • Does anyone know if recontraction with a device will affect it? For example, the A8 tab deal, there is a $44 credit per month on it apparently to make it "free"

  • Just curious, anyone who uses a watch plan. Is it actually useful? Thinking of buying an apple watch for my partner. She hates tech but is always forgetting her phone. Just dunno how practical it is!

    Thanks

    • +1

Haha yeah it's pretty handy, being able to actually take calls and stream music without your phone nearby is g

  • is it possible to re-contract from my recent Optus data + device plan (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/696220) and move from my current 30GB plan to the promotional 60GB plan without incurring any penalty/cancelation fees?

  • Damn.. I just bought a 12m prepaid coles sim for my tablet. This would have been much better as it's mtm

  • Just FYI. I signed up for this and they sent through the contract but they seem have removed the double data offer in the contract? There is no mention of double data anywhere.

60 GB for $12.50 monthly (4G Network) is what I signed up for.

    contract says this:
    Your plan
30GB Optus Choice Plus Data Plan

I seem to be only getting 30gb so… its half off and half the data = its not really half off? Anyhow, I've screenshotted and saved their page and pricing+data rate. Anyhow - it might not be an issue but who knows.

I signed up yesterday. In the process, I had to select the bonus data. It was not automatic. I know, pretty crazy.

Get onto Live Chat and hopefully they should be able to change it. Good luck.

  • How do you recontact through the app. I'm 11months into the last 50% off plan.

    • What is the cancellation policy?

Can I sign up get a tablet and cancel right away?

  • Any real advantages of Subhub on Optus?

remember it once had free Amazon prime for a year, does it still has that or any other noticeable perks? thinking of getting the 10gb plan just for any good perks

  • missed this due to not being able to recontract

  • Anyway I can get a pic of the offer? so see if Optus help can help
