Good Printer for Only Printing A6 Size Invoices?

I run a little law firm. Currently I'm printing my invoices on A4 and folding the invoices 2 ways. Ideally what I would like to do is print invoices on A6 paper (or 4"x6") which on the other side will have pre printed thank you cards. I have a multi function printer but the small paper always gets jammed - literally every page. Are there any printers that are better for printing on smaller paper?

I run a little law firm.

Is your law firm called Goodman Sacks? 😋

    • Saul Goodman, formerly JMM.

  • Username checks out.

Most laser printers can handle smaller paper due to the solid rollers, where multifunction inkjets only have the little wheels. However, it will depend on your card thickness and the like - if you can go to Officeworks and test some machines would be ideal, but dunno if that's possible.

    • Probably not these days. I have a HPM506M Corporate based unit and I find that is not great at printing 210 x 100 AusPost labels, and jams quite easilly.
I remember the old Lexmark Printers would print on nearly anything, without jamming. I know they have 1 laser MB3442I(https://eftm.com/2021/12/lexmark-mb3442i-aio-laser-printer-r…) still around. Banks used to use them (I haven't walked into one in 4-5 years)

  • A6 is quarter A4 correct? So envelope size? I think most printers should handle that via the manual/envelope feed tray. Can't recommend any specific models but general warning to stay away from HP. I have a Brother myself.

    • Yes the HP on my desk jams on AusPost labels unless they are A4.

Why not just email your invoices.

    • He specialises in elder law

    • Why not just email your invoices.

      It's a law firm.

Why not just fax your invoices.

  • Was looking for the same solution. (A little online retail business) Basically, all lower to mid-level laser printers are designed to print on A4 and smaller size paper will not centre during the high-speed rolling. Any cheap inkjet with paper feeding from the back will work well, like our $50 Epson, however, compared to a paper tray, its compacity is like 50 pages, so you need to run a delicate printer just for a6. Another solution is thermal but it will fade unless you go for very expensive stuff.

    • I need to add that our inkjet is very slow, maybe that is the reason it is more stable than a laserjet. For the environment, it is definitely worth it but it won't save you time over folding a laser-printed a4.

I use the rear paper holder for my 4"x6" photo printing on a Canon TS8660. Very quick and has never jammed

  • Here I thought printing a5 is smaller, someone else doing a6. Anyway, I use Brother HL-L2305W - I'm guessing any of similar Brother printer will be the same. Most shipment labels are in A6 size inan A4 size doc, the feeder works great. If I just need to print one A6 label, i can feed A5 paper so that it print on one side then turn it around to print next to it. The minimum paper feed is A5, if you do smaller it will usually just inore that paper and print on A4 from paper tray.

One note about printing label, only feed the unpeeled side of the sticker, if you don't it may jam into the drum.

Another, not sure what version of pdf reader, most likely the reader that comes with the scanner, you can edit the label in doc to any position you want, thus if you have top and bottom A6 thing to print, you can make them side by side this print both in A 5 paper.

Open the back exit tray on your printer so the paper has a smoother path.

Cute gimmick. "You'll only get a small bill from us."

  • A4 laser with back exit.
