Your Experiences with TheFork

With soo many bonus Yums deals recently, I felt it is a good timing for us to share our good or bad experiences with the fork bookings and redemptions. I feel our community is split when it comes to experience with the fork with some cities offering better choices then others. So starting this thread for us to share our favourable experiences and help more ozbargainers jump on board and make the most of the Yums.

“May thefork be with you” 😀

I will start with mine - just checked my Yums history and could only see as far back as Oct 2019 - earned over 25k Yums since (still pending 2k Yums to be credited from the most recent 2 deals). Only ever redeemed in multiples of 2k - equals to $50 credit off bill. I am in Sydney. The most frugal meal I remember having was with my wife when we went to Italian street Kitchen for lunch and only paid up like $4 for an entire lunch after the Yums discount (was a bit embarrassing, but hey we are ozbargainers).
Some other places to have redeemed Yums are Crinitis, some Indian restaurants like Vege Delight in Bella Vista, Thousand spices in Homebush (would not recommend this one).
I am sure there are many more good locations to redeem Yums in Sydney, which is what I am expecting will come out in this thread.
I personally have never had a problem earning or redeeming Yums and yes although you need to spend money each time to earn the Yums, it’s more fun redeeming them.
Please share your experiences so we can all know some of the good places to make redemptions in Sydney or infact anywhere in Australia. Enjoy !
P.S. I am not associated with thefork in any way.

Oh yes - forgot to mention. Most of the times I have only ever booked with special offers when the restaurant offers like 30-50% off and bonus Yums is just icing on the cake.

I recently went to on cowell at gladesville and redeemed my $50 for lunch and paid $5 out of pocket. No questions asked from staff. Food was above my expectations. Overall very happy with the restaurant.

However I don't like how most places that accept yums redemptions are located in the city. This is for Sydney.

    • Thanks mate - this is interesting. I had never heard of this place until you mentioned it. That is exactly what I wanted to get out of this thread.
Yes, agree most redemption locations are near the CBD and I even struggle sometimes redeeming my Yums before the expiry. Hence started this thread with a hope to get some more options for redemption

Do you get paid each time you say yum?

  • It is very slim pickings in Brisbane, maybe like 5 places max. I think their search engine could help a little more. For example some places only have certain days for redeeming yums. If it could just show any possibly yum redemption and not specific for your search it would help.

I do that by not putting any date while searching. The app gives an option to ignore the dates and just show everything. Is that what you are after?

Thanks for the tip, that worked just now. Didn't know I could do that!
The bummer thing ATM is where I am living for 6months there are 0 thefork places.

I live in inner Sydney, so a reasonable number of places to redeem, however many require a minimum of 2 people which doesn't suit me. Also, had lunch recently and ordered special on waiters recommendation… he comes back to say sorry because you're using Fork promotion, specials not available for you. Still, cheap meal when you can get it.

Just be aware that your yums expire, as I had 9000 yums do so, due to the fact that we in Melbourne couldn't acutally go and eat in during lockdowns - otherwise I've had a positive experience with them sampling good restuarants that were out of our normal budget, at 50% off.
I generally go back on special occasions on normal pricing to help the good ones survive this tough industry.

    • There is a trick to this ;)… when you have yums due to expire, use them to book a restaurant… then cancel before your reservation. Your yums will be refunded with a new start date ;)))

  • Does anyone know what the deal is for the restaurant when you pay using Yums? They never look happy so I always tip 20%.

    • I always thought fork would compensate the restaurant in some way - May be take it off their fees next month or something like that? I am not sure though, but I didn’t think the restaurant would lose much.
Plus - the majority Yums redemption places are not really a very good value for money places and charge you a bomb anyways(there might be a few exceptions though)

  • There are only 2 restaurants in parra accept yum now . Both are expensive (e.g Meat Wine co ) . It makes me wonder what have they done to lose support from restaurants.
