The Gamesmen's Old Catalogues (1990-2016)

https://www.gamesmen.com.au/old-catalogues

The Gamesmen have been in business since 1982. As of 1990, we famously began offering our customers catalogues: highlighting the latest releases, special deals, and more for purchase via mail order, or in-store. At the time, they were the most hotly anticipated letters to arrive every quarter. Now, they serve as snapshots in time: artefects detailing not only the history of our store, but also the history of gaming for the last three decades — and they're all here. We hope you enjoy browsing them.

I had no idea this existed until I just stumbled on this republished Kotaku article. I don't have personal experiences with Gamesmen per se, as I was never a Sydney resident … but what a nostalgia trip from (briefly) perusing the various video games, gadgets, game consoles etc. (and their listed prices) back in the various yesteryears, in these archived catalogues.

If anyone has memories of noteworthy/historic Gamesmen deals / purchases from back in the day, feel free to share :-)

Ah yes, the memories! Amiga 500 starter pack for $995! Plus only $199 for a half megabyte expansion card. PenPal word processor for $189. I did my uni thesis using that!

  • Thanks for the link. I remember scoffing at the $99 RRP for PS2 games. And $749 for a PS2 was a rip regardless whether it had an Emotion Engine or not.

      Adjusted for inflation $749 in 2001 is $1,198.65 in 2021. And $749 for a PS5 in 2021 would be $468 in 2001.

Love Gamesmen. They have an awesome little museum of video games. I'm in VIC but I often buy gear, retro & new, from them and everytime I'm in the area, I pop in.

    • If they have the 6 foot Jak and Daxter statue in there still, say hi from me :)

Haven't been there since the local store closed (probably 20 years ago) but I still have my lifetime membership card. I'll have to pop in sometime and make sure they still honour it.

I still have 2 EB catalogues from the N64 days. They make me smile when I look at them.

    • Please upload them. I miss the old EB catalogues(if anyone knows where to find them please let me know :) ).

  • Going through the catalogues from the early 90s has given me warm fuzzy feelings
