Cordless SKYPE Phone+Base: "RTX DUALphone 4088" Au $90 Incl S+H (AU-Wide)

Here's a way to have a 24x7 Skype phone -without- needing to keep a computer running all day:

Cordless phone works with -both-
+ Skype (via a wired connection to your broadband Internet modem / router) -and-
+ your landline service, if you have one (it -might- even work, eg, plugged into a VoIP ATA box)

[You may NOT need Code; it auto-appeared, in-place for us; let this be a lesson to other vendors]

Available in White or Black:

For White, use this URL:

For Black, use this URL:

Although you start out at Skype.com's eStore, you'll end up dealing with
Skype's "merchant partner" ChatAndVision.com[.au] (with a Qld tel.no., possibly VoIP DID?)

(There's also eBay vendor: ChatAndVision [in Hong Kong], so it's anybody's guess where there are;
at least Skype seems to trust the folks with the 07 (Qld) number, so you should be right.)

Skype considers this a 10% Off "Launch" deal, but some -local-
Aussie vendors show prices around Au $129 (maybe: -plus- S+H)

[While it's likely made in Asia, the company has a Danish connection.]

The base can have up to 4 handsets & use up to 2 Skype accounts.

(I think handsets can -switch- between landline & Skype calls;
I assume it you can assign a Skype acct (1 of 2) to each handset)

There's an older RTX 3088 handset, but I haven't got anyone to tell me
-how- compatible it may (or may not) be with 4088 bases.
(If you know for certain, kindly advise.)

[There are a few vendors of -cheap- RTX 3088 -handsets- out there.
We've ordered some to test, but - of course - have yet to receive…]

  • Or just buy an ipod touch and you can make video calls as well

    • +1

Wow, ipod touch works with landlines now? Sweet!

      • obviously not, but as a skype handset it works pretty well. Besides if you have a landline you will have a handset already.

        • True… and False…

          (.F. because you'll the need 2 handsets…

Once again Apple can't compete with a cool product… ;-)

And I've also paid -heaps- less, all up… :-)

    • I think this would be ideal for someone who is used to using a normal phone, and not necessarily an iOS device. Plus it's about half the price. Also this would replace your standard PSTN phone too, allowing you to take calls from your land-line and automatically select which calls to make over Skype all in one unit.

Skype on iOS running in the background is a little flakey too, from my findings. Although if you want video chat then an iPod Touch would be ideal.

I was tempted to buy the 3088 version about a year ago but remembered there was no way of setting the time-out before being forwarded to voice mail. It was apparently 60 seconds on the 3088 which is way too long. I wonder if they have provided the option to modify this on the 4088?

As for the bargain-ness, well it's 10% off which is not massive but still gets a plus from me.

      • I'll have to let you know on that Q.

        (I don't even have its manual(s), yet.)

  • Pardon my ignorance, but if you need to keep this connected to the computer running Skype, how can you use it as a phone 'without needing to keep your computer running all day'?

    • This is a stand-alone device which connects via ethernet to your modem/router.

      • Rightyo, so you have the modem on, but not your computer? Alas, not viable when the person only has wireless on a laptop. Ah well :)

        • Set the lappie up to feed Internet out its wired network's RJ-45 jack.
