Mate NBN partial outage, anyone else affected?

I've been with Mate for a few weeks now.

Tonight, starting about 8pm Perth time, I've had quite some trouble with my Internet connection. First nothing worked at all. I rebooted the modem/router, no luck.

Once I changed DNS from Google to use whatever Mate supplies as default, parts of the web are reachable, while others remain unreachable.

Not working are all the US based streaming services, Netflix, Prime Video, Mubi. And worst of all: Google. No search, no Gmail.

What's working are sites hosted in Australia, like here. Or the ABC. Weird enough: Bing works. First time in many years I've used that, but what good is it to be able to search when I then can't visit most of the result pages?

Anyway, just touching base to see whether others have the same issues tonight.

Update: the issue resolved itself just as I was heading to bed last night. All good now. Not a major outage, still annoying in that the Mate website showed no outages and that support hours are very limited. I'll include support hours as a selection criteria for my next provider.

  • Yeah my parents reported theirs was completely out as well, but mine is still ok. Thinking of changing away from mate, been experiencing slowdowns occasionally during peak congestion times over the past couple months. Anyone else been experiencing this?

    • Parents just reported their service is working again now

      • I agree with your first comment. Based in Melbourne and mate is very slow in the evenings. 100/20 HFC. My youtube app in particular suffers.

    Nothing worked, and was going to call mate in the morning.

  • Pro tip this can happen with any provider… People act like this is the end of the world if it drops out for 4 hours 🙄

  • Confirm this is happening for me too for the past couple days.

    Some website work fine, others never load. Speed test shows normal download speed but 0mbps upload. Multiple reboots of modem/router does not help. Changing router DNS address to 1.1.1.1/8.8.8.8 does not help.

    Quite annoying….

    Cloudflare is having issue and they are a big provider.

    There are still issues this morning.

    My smart lights are not working.

    Google home can stream music.

    Not with mate.

    I'm currently with More Telecom, and not affected.

  • Hi, MATE here, your internet service provider. Unfortunately, there is currently an unplanned network outage affecting some internet services in your area. If your internet is not working or experiencing connection difficulties, this is the reason why. DO NOT PRESS THE RESET BUTTON ON YOUR MODEM/ROUTER!   • Had issues in the morning, but seem to have come good in the afternoon.

    Issues started yesterday late afternoon, and included weird things like unable to stream from Netflix, Epic Games only half loaded, unable to authenticate with Epic Games, and therefore, unable to load any games via Epic, didn't check much else.
