First Responders Day: Extra 5% off Computers, 10% off Phones, 15% Other Departments (Exclusions Apply, In-Store Only) @ JB Hi-Fi

1610

To say thank you to Australia’s First Responders for their hard work keeping us safe during the COVID-19 crisis, we’re supporting @AustralianRetailersAssociation #FirstRespondersDay by offering an extra 5% off Computers, 10% off Phones, and 15% Off all other departments to First Responders who visit our stores.

This offer is only available to First Responders. First responders include medical and healthcare workers: nurses, doctors, paramedics and ambulance/paramedic staff, police personnel, firefighters, defence force personnel, border force personnel, SES, CFA, marine rescue teams, lifesavers, surgeons and hospital staff & quarantine workers. We ask that First Responders bring a Photo ID which shows their work identity. Alternatively, they can shop in their work uniform. Due to Australian Federal Police (AFP) policy, AFP Members will need to identify themselves using their association card or a digital/printed First Responders Day email from the Australian Federal Police Association (AFPA), rather than their AFP photo ID or police uniform.

Not available for online purchases. Discount offer excludes Apple, Dyson, DJI, Gaming consoles, Mobile phone contracts & subscriptions, Miele & Asko agency products, Dell Built to Order, Pre-Paid Cards & Gift Cards, Pre-Orders, Extended Warranties, Installation & Delivery. Discounts apply to most recent previous ticketed/advertised price. As we negotiate on price, products are likely to have sold below ticketed/advertised price in stores prior to the discount offer. Offers not available at Airport & Express stores.

About First Responders Day

All participating Retailers: https://www.retail.org.au/firstrespondersday

First Responders Day takes place for one day only on the last Thursday in June, this year being 30 June 2022!

This event encourages retailers large and small to combine their efforts and thank first responders for their courage, commitment and contribution to protecting our Australian community during time of crisis by offering a special discount to these workers at all participating Australian retailers.

Our first responders are ordinary people with an extraordinary commitment to protecting and saving others. Some work in the field day-to-day, some follow the call-to-action to assist during times of crisis, the common thread is our first responders all selflessly dedicate their time and lives to protect and save others.

First Responders Day is an online and in-store event to encourage first responders to connect with the retail industry so we can say “thank you” for their efforts in protecting our community.

Am I interpreting this correctly?… The deals start the first day of the new financial year, when a lot of the current deals will have ended?

    • It's one day only, in the last day of this financial year :)

      • Apologies. Should have read the fine print.

  • 10% off phones… Discount offer excludes Apple.

    Noted, Apple. Noted.

  • My wife will visit in her police officer costume.

  • Im surf lifesaver, we dont have ID's, going by the post i could wear my uniform but walking through a shopping centre in my uniform in winter would get a few strange looks. And no our uniform is not budgie smugglers 😁

    • How much is that 5% on top of, worth to you? XD

    • I'd assume the team would be fairly reasonable - can you show them a photo of yourself in uniform, or do you have an emergency memberlink account?

When is the 'special day' for small business owners who got financially decimated during lockdowns, as opposed to the folks who had full-time jobs through out. Not saying first responders don't do a great job at all, but the first responder nature of their work is reflected in their hourly rate.

    • +6

About half of those people mentioned in the post are unpaid volunteers, and other half worked through a pandemic including the period where vaccines didn't exist and we didn't know just how bad it would get.

So as brave as you might be for drop shipping things from your house…..find another parade to pee on.

      • I was peeing on the pride parade but they told me to find another parade to pee on so now I'm peeing on this one. Which is an acceptable parade to pee on for you?

    • +2

I'm a small business owner who got decimated during covid, and also spent many years as a volunteer in a number of organizations like VRA and SES. Believe me, doing things like being out on the freeway all night removing body parts out of a triple fatal incineration MVA and not being paid for it, along with the thousands of hours of training that go along with it is no comparison to your business taking a hit.

    • +1

volunteer with the rfs here, so how about no

    • +2

the first responder nature of their work is reflected in their hourly rate.

Definitely! That's why we never hear complaints about nurse wages and paramedics don't draw on their ambulances!

Of course they exclude Apple products 😂

That being said, I do find it funny doctors and surgeons get included in these kinds of promos. Obviously it makes sense if it's a promotion about 'first responders', but aren't they are on average the highest (perhaps excluding MPs) compensated professions in the country?

Paramedics do such important work but really get the short end of the stick compensation wise. But same discount % from JB.

Be aware that Junior Doctor salaries are < $80,000 per year, and thats after they have racked up a minimum of $55,000 HECS debt, and more likely closer to 80-90k

      • Oh, I'm very aware. Certainly a hard gig when you start. But my impression is that the profession is widely structured so that you can very comfortably make $$ once you're older and established.

        • +3

Not really any more in the past 10 years or so. It is very saturated now and people are retiring later and later. The older generation still have most of the resources and the bulk of referring base. A lot of the new doctors are feeding off the left overs.

Still a decent income but nowhere near like what it is 20 years ago.

20 years ago, you finish specialist training in a good hospital, chances are they will employ you as a specialist cos they have the capacity.
These days, if a position in a public hospital comes up, in the more competitive fields, you won't even get an interview if you do not have a PhD or Post Doc / Sub specialty fellowship / Connections.

Amazed by the showing of sourpusses in this thread.

Next time you're at work, think about how nobody HAS to recognise you for the work you do, or give you a gift, bonus or thank you… but when they do it's a NICE gesture.

If you're going to moan about us responders getting 5% off once a year, then sign up and risk your life for the other 330 days of the year.

    • Considering you support someone who gets done for throwing attacks on someone who fits the criteria for a first responder I'm surprised you'd say that.

  • Sooooo, what about working in IT in a hospital, does that count?!

    • +1

Says hospital workers. I was in full PPE equipment working in ED and the clinics for last year+. Wasn’t allowed to WFH as deemed essential. So I.T should be covered. Unless your’re one of them WFH coffee sipping none essentials ITers ;)

    • If you don't know if you're a first responder then you probably aren't.

  • Oh poop. I just bought a new PC from JB tonight. Extra 5% off would have been nice.

  • Would price match still work?

    • Probably not. "Discounts apply to most recent previous ticketed/advertised price."

  • I was a bit naive and rushed to JBs before close last night.
They said no such thing so I clicked back here and seen it was June 30th… silly me.

Anyways, I had a heap of stuff and said to the sales rep that I’m better off coming back on the 30th, he said current deal for what I bought ends before then so I just bought anyway. He said that with the current specials being 20% off that JB Hifi only let consumers take advantage of one discount so the 15% off wouldn’t get applied.

Reading the website today, the current specials don’t end until June 30th. I recall when they had a sale in December with ticketed prices being marked with a discount I was able to get the Wacky Wednesday 5% applied.

Does anyone no more about this? Should I embarrass myself and go return everything and repurchase next Wednesday? Or is this a new JB policy that anything on special doesn’t apply to this offer?

    • I dont think this is true as I bought a mouse last year that was already on special and got the extra discount off that. Not sure if it has changed this year but I suspect it probably hasnt.

    • I would personally ask the store managers, if the SM is not sure, I would get a full refund.
      This has been discussed here

walked into the store today and mentioned i was working on the day of first responder sale, meaning i'd miss out on the first responder sale. But was willing to purchase something this weekend if possible.

they wont aware of the upcoming first responder sale, but quick google search verified the sale was legit.

They honoured me the 15% right there and I didn't have to show any ID, they just casually asked what job/first responder i was representing.

    • OMG i should of tried this also

  • So 15% off Xbox series X?

Edit: NVM. No stock in my area.

    • +1

      Excludes consoles ..

  • can you get JB to price match then apply the discount? or its last ticket price only

    • Wondering same too

    • It works

      • Yep I got them to price match the logitech mx mini in pink for $95 then 15% off thst then paid with GC

  • Hey guys price match works, I just got the Sony a7iii for $2050 (could've gotten cheaper for $1950 with egiftcards but oh well)

  • Damn today only
