[VIC] Has Anyone Used Victorian Energy Upgrades Program for Heating and Cooling ?

Talking about this

Has anyone used this program to get an upgrade for current heaters in your existing home ?

If so how was that procedure like ? (and like do we get installation done from any reputable electricians that specialize in heating and cooling systems ? or we must choose an installer from a specific list)

Anyone know how to find out which appliances (gas heaters are cheapest so them) are the available for rebate grant.

But if there's any other heaters that are cheaper, and available for rebate grant then would probably go with that (currently have gas duct heater - inefficient, and non duct air reverse cycle air conditioner).

Thanks

  • yep I have upgraded my aircon in the living room. The cost was $2500 and got $1000 rebate via SolarVic

    • Nice, Do you remember if you had to like upgrade only to specific AC's models from a list or any efficient AC ? from last installation ?

      • "Depending on the type of upgrade product you install, it either has to be an approved product under the program, or if the product is subject to minimum energy efficiency standards then it has to be on the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards register and meet certain minimum energy efficiency requirements. "
        as per government website
u can look up their list below
        https://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/

        • No that doesn't have electric DUCTED GAS heaters, the guy on phone told me this link
And select "5(18) - Space heater - Ducted gas heater" which brings all the eligible product. No problem there but problem lies in knowing how I find out which system is classified as SMALL/MEDIUM/LARGE.

      • they only have eligible approved models that participate in the scheme.

        • yeah but no business is providing rebate for gas ducted heaters, so its a fake name puffery scheme by scummy government

    • Hi, I look up the government website on this.
i dont see SolarVic on their accredited list.. does it mean that the list is incomplete?
Hope you could assist as I dont want to miss out on the rebate :)

      cheers

  • I got rid of my gas wall furnace and had an aircon fitted. Got $1200. $200 of that was for getting rid of the gas heater. Was seamless.

    • Did you had to get it installed from the accredited approved electricians listed on website ?

Or get it installed from anywhere ? and send A GEOTAGGED Photo to that approved accredited electrician ?

      • No I bought it from an accrediated firm. There is also a list of aircons that apply to this scheme. They arranged all the crap and i just paid them and then they got the rebate from the government. Had a big Daikin installed and all up it cost me about $2400.

    • Your vulcan?

  • Does it apply for repairs? Got a wall AC that hasn't been used for years, and will probably need to get it fixed.

i dont think so website says upgrade, (and must be installing a new work or product) it can be as simple as new duct work or as much as installing ducted air/gas system)

I am looking for Ducted Gas heater, (because they are cheapest product, But you know what

Not a single Approved Accreditor is dealing with ducted system,
more than half only deal with LED's and do nothing with Heating and cooling rest of them only do split systems, or like hot water heat pumps etc.

Government scheme is dodgy as f man. Not a single person who can help get the rebate, also look at products (MORE THAN HALF OF ELIGIBLE PRODUCT LISTS are items THAT ARE NO LONGER BEING SOLD BY MANUFACTURER)

"I am looking for Ducted Gas heater"
There's your problem. Fossil gas is on the way out and very inefficient compared to RCAC. Fossil gas heating is about 80% efficient at best. RCAC split system is typically 300% to 500% efficient and can also work for cooling in summer. A fossil gas heater might have a lower initial cost, but the total cost over 5 years, under typical conditions in Victoria, is going to be higher. If fossil gas prices remain as high as they are, then that could be as little as two years.

Why would the Victorian Government want to provide a rebate on something that shouldn't be used and will have to be removed in the next ten years or so?

It is only a matter of time now and the installation of new fossil gas appliances will be banned.
