Fedex Delivered My Car Parts to The Wrong Address, Should I Go and Ask The Wrong Address for My Package?

Guys and Girls,

After a few confusing days and phone calls to fedex/tnt. Ive found out that my car parts i ordered from the USA have been misdelivered to a different address.

Same street name and number but a different postcode thats 20min away from me.

How they managed this i dont know.
Since these car parts are for my broken car that is sitting in my driveway with half the engine pulled out, i really want to go out and knock on their door and ask for my box of stuff back.

Politely ofcourse, not their fault they received my package.

Ive already raised the issue with fedex but god damn its frustrating to be told to wait 48hrs for them to attempt to make contact and ask for my package to be returned.

Whats ozbargain say?

Go talk to them. I'm sure they don't have a use for them and it would be too bulky to deal with

Case the joint first, don't approach crack heads
      .

Go and ask them. Allot quicker, unless they lie and say they never received it.

  • What's the worst that can happen? If both you and Fedex contact them they'll also know the ability to resell it on gumtree would be limited and you know exactly where they are.

  • Whats ozbargain say?

It says WTF are you asking here for? We don't have your bits.

Go to the address and get them ASAP.. Also Check Gumtree for sale…

  • Go ask

  • Scan gumtree for the parts, offer to pay nothing to take them off their hands!

    Yes, go and ask politely.

Most people are good and as long as you leave them a way to not be embarrassed by the fact they hadn't returned the parts etc - I think it more than likely they return to you on the spot.

I'd take a soft approach i.e "Sorry to bother you, I live a few doors down - I was waiting on some very hard to find parts for our family car thats broken down and the silly courier believes he inadvertantly left them here, you wouldn't have seen a package a few days ago left at your home?" etc.

If they return, drop them off a $10 box of chocs as a thank you - you might might friends for life or atleast establish some good karma. If they say no, claim full costs via the courier.

What is stopping you? I'm sure they have opened the package, found out its crap they don't want. So will be happy to hand it over.

The only reason i havent gone yet is because im worried i will muddy the waters as to who is responsible for this (profanity).

Fedex is claiming the seller has provided the wrong address on the consignment.

Seller is claiming the correct address was put through, the invoice shows the correct address so im inclined to believe them.

If i interfere now it may be difficult to figure out who is now responsible and who will issue me the refund if things go south. Fedex could claim that i didnt allow them time to follow their process for redelivery. Seller could claim i took the package myself and am now lying about it to get a refund.

The parts werent cheap and with a 5kg box from the usa the shipping alone cost me nearly $200. If i cant recover the parts i am fighting for a full refund for sure.

Just go get your stuff, you can sort out the blame later.

This is not a correct approach. Go get the goods if you can first and foremost. Go now.

If you manage to get them, then you don't care what Fedex have to say whatsoever.

If you don't manage to get them, then you follow your worst case scenario above.

Do you want your stuff or not?

If they claim they haven't got it, then carry on with Fedex for a 'refund'… if they hand it over, you get your $200 worth of parts and get to fix your car.

More like $700 in parts and $200 shipping.

I went just then and got my parts. The people at the address tried to tell fedex that there was a misdelivery but fedex didnt do anything about it, they kept the box aside just in case someone came for it. I gave them some cash as a thank you for saving me any further headache.

Fedex is on my boycott list now

Oh sorry, yes $200 was the shipping. Thought it was parts :)

Great outcome for you and for them! It was nice that they kept it aside for you and nice of you to give them a reward for doing the right thing!

Same street name and number but a different postcode thats 20min away from me.

Which dumbass urban designer puts two streets of the same name 20 minutes away.
I get annoyed I need to choose between from my address and one three states away in dropdowns online.

  • Go get it. You might need to take the bus to get there.
