Thats a pretty killer deal! Hopefully we see similar prices for Ryzen EXPO kits.

    • Yea But CL40? No Thanks.

      • +3

if you've got a better deal i'm all ears

Read this thread on Reddit that CL is not the whole picture. It's not simply CL40 bad, CL20 good and twice as fast. You must take into account the other timings and the clock speed of the RAM as well and it's bandwidth.
        https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/qpe49o/in_lay…

Typical DDR4 RAM these days that's Good but not tops is 3200 MHz or 3600 MHz.
Typical DDR5 RAM these days is starting at 4800 MHz and the kit in this posting is 5200 MHz.

Eventually these CLs on DDR5 will come down and the clock speeds of DDR5 will go up.

        • +4

Or put another way (using the formula from the reddit post) , DDR5 5200Mhz CL40 is about the same as DDR4 2133Mhz at CL15.

Not a great latency… not not as bad as it looks and a lot more bandwidth.

          • @Thenhz: The latency doesn't really matter, you will get 2-3fps higher fps on games at 1080p but once you step up the resolution to 1440p or 4k then the GPU should be maxing out and be the "bottleneck" rather than the ram.

Clockspeed shows bigger benefits than latency, latency is only if you are pushing for a record and need that 1-2fps once you have already overclocked your GPU and CPU to the extreme.

            • @Agret: err that extra fps does matter, when you go to higher res you're just getting bottlenecked by the gpu

              • +1

@abctoz: That's correct, when you are at a higher res it is your GPU holding you back so the speed of the system RAM becomes irrelevant. More about the GPU power than anything.

Check this benchmark for what I mean

                https://youtu.be/P8jqRzTV1kY

When playing at 4K there is only 1% difference between any ram optimisations. You can see there is huge variation in FPS at 1080p since that doesn't stress modern GPUs much, less variation at 1440p.

  • is this a laptop one? can I use it for legion 5i pro?

      No desktop.

  • Pretty good for DDR5

  • Thank god prices are going down.
    Now if only there's a 2x32gb…

    • Working on a 2x32GB.

Planning on opening 640 chrome tabs with that 64gb?

      • +1

With memory compression you might get 4 tabs open 😜

  • Is this ps5 compatible?

    • +3

      No desktop.

        "No, desktop."
        Fixed it for you.

          Yes desktop.

CL 40. Slow as a sloth.

    • +4

      But not really.

    • This is ddr5. You need to use a calculator to compare it to DDR4. It's around CL15 in DDR4 2133Mhz terms.

      • You mind sharing a link to such a calculator? Googled but didn't find any

  • +1

Quality find @Clear! DDR5 finally getting mainstream pricing.

  • Looks like DDR5 prices are finally closer to becoming realistic.

  • +2

Prices already coming down… people who said they weren't, checkmate

  • I saw an auction on ebay recently, with 32gb of 6000mhz ram for less than $200. I should have bidded. But I'm not building my pc until after 40 series comes out, so who knows if we'll have better ram and better value then?

  • Wow pretty cheap.

  • Its showing up as $795.50 for me, was it a pricing error or am I somehow hitting the wrong link?

      Out of stock.

  • AMD doing DDR5 yet or I think there new boards coming out end if the year? Anyone confirm this?
