      • Diced is best for putting in rice salad in the tropics.

    Different brands taste different.
Some are OZ and some are imported.
Some brands have different liquid that the beetroot is supplied in.
Some brands have a baby beetroot option.

As you have not specified which brand and type you like then you will need to use google to find the one you like and see if they are available in a catering size.

    • Oh thought they would all taste the same

I like using woolworths homebrand at the moment

      • Sounds like you are new to eating beetroot.

I prefer OZ grown baby beets, but they are the most expensive. In the last few years oz grown beetroot has had supply issues and has been replaced by Philippines beetroot that is not as sweet.

        • This, Oz grown ones taste the best. Homebrand ones generally taste like garbage.

          • @brendanm: Agree with OZ taste the best. I have not made my own for about 4 or 5 years.

Agree the home brands suck. I just spotted today that the Coles home brand may be from NZ, which I have not tried.

            • @AndyC1: So are non home brand more sweeter? and also what else makes non home brand better?

          • @brendanm: Oh right

I eat home brand atm and reckon their delicious

        • Yes i am new to eating beetroot and i love it :D

oh so baby beets are sweeter than normal size?

I been eating woolworths homebrand and they are from new zealand i think, how does new zealand compare in your opinion?

Australia now has only 1, maybe 2 farms that grow beetroot. The majority of the brand name stuff is imported from New Zealand

      • What are the Australian brands?

You need to look at the packaging and see where the beetroot was grown as some of the brands have beetroot that is grown in OZ and imported/packaged overseas.

          • @AndyC1: The homebrand i buy just says "made in new zealand" - could that still mean it is oz betroot but just packaged in new zealand?

  • I find that sourcing wholesale supplies (i.e. 12x cartons or large 3 kg cans) is rarely worth it for one person once you factor in shipping or fussing about town. You often need to spend a few hundred to get free shipping but you might get tired of beetroot by the 42nd kilogram.

I find the 80 cent Coles cans do taste a bit more vinegary. But the larger Golden Circle cans are only a bit more per kg if they're up to your standards.

I've been eating quite a bit of beetroot lately. I find it does seem to help reduce fatigue (which I experienced myself before I googled it as being a thing some years ago). But I'm not sure about eating that much in oxalates everyday, whether it has an actual effect on kidney stones/gout or not.

I've been eating quite a bit of beetroot lately.

user name does not check out…

    • Lol i didn't know canned beetroot had vinegar

      • Check the labelling on the tins, the beetroot also has added sugar and salt.

Acetic acid (food acid 260) is the vinegar flavour. Under our food labelling laws the term vinegar can only be used if the acetic acid is produced by fermentation.

        • thanks for the insight

Is there any nutritional value in the liquid in the can or is it just mainly sugar and vinegar and salt?

  • What about this, seems to be relatively close to your area with free pickup

It's more per kg than the everyday price at Woolies/Coles though (assuming the same liquid percentage). But I guess OP never specified price being a factor.

      • Oh, I didn't check that, I assumed being in bulk it would be cheaper :(

        • Some of the food service companies are dearer. There are a few supermarkets that also sell the bulk stuff, but they were no where near me so I just buy at Coles or Woolies when the OZ grown beets are on special.

      • Oops

Forgot to specify the cheaper the better along quality still there

I remember eating lots of beetroot, went to the toilet and thought i massacred my guts.

    In moderation Triton

    • Lol how much did you eat for that to happen

Also how much consumption you reckon is In moderation

  • Good way to develop gastro issues ;)

  • not a fan of raw beetroot? surely it will be cheaper and healthier

    • Do you prefer the smaller or larger ones?

      • For some reason i like the larger slices ( canned)

    • actually never tried raw beetroot, what does it taste like?

  • I heard if you eat only beetroot for a decade or more you will eventually turn purple. ^o^

  • Last weekend I saw Big Cans of Edgell Beetroot at ABCOE Casula at a discount price (Close to Best Before).

633 Hume Highway Casula, NSW, Australia 2170

They are located on Hume Highway (on the way to Costco Crossroads from Liverpool)

    • thanks mate!
