  • I didn't get a Steam Key for "Dark Fall: Lost Souls", so either the Bundle doesn't come with it, or Groupees haven't been able to add it yet. (This was the case for a game from their last bundle, so I'm hoping they will add the key later on.) I sent them an email to confirm if there is a key or not, and will report back when I find out.

Not obvious on the site (there's only a ~327 hour countdown), but the offer expires 5:00pm Tuesday, 05 June AEST.
    Please update expiry, OP.

  • Any recommendations?

  • I like the concept of choosing only the ones you want to pay for. More bundle sites should introduce something similar.

    • +1

Except that the whole point of bundling stuff together is to have everyone pay for everything.

      • +1

Not really. bundling is about offering several products together as one package. they are doing that - just allowing some choice.

It's like mix n match, or maccas value meals.

By doing it this way, they are still hoping to get you to buy more than you otherwise would if priced individually (you have to buy at least 3 games, and its cheaper if you buy more), but giving the consumer some amount of choice (I presume to entice people who don't want to buy full bundles of games they don't want).

        • +2

Exactly. I'd gone off bundles because I already had half of it and wasn't interested in the other half. The minimum price-setting that began was a problem when all I wanted was 1 game.

This is a solution. I might actually buy a bundle again!

It's a shame that the games get poor metacritic scores. But I really like this business model, so reckon I'll support it.

        • Most 'bundles' are designed to best serve the producers (in this case, the developers). You pay a little more for the whole bundle even if you only want a few games, this way they get more out of you.

        • yes, bundles are (usually) designed to best serve the producer. but the way to best serve the producer is not necessarily by bundling ALL products together (which is what your comment stated).

by utilising price discrimination, they may be able to extract more money from consumers. ie. less people may buy the whole bundle, but this can be outweighed by the increased number of sales of smaller bundles.

for example, if 1000 people would buy the whole bundle if that was the only option, they would make $9000. however, if they give the option for people to choose their bundle (in effect, utilising price discrimination) it could be that 1300 people would buy a bundle. e.g. maybe 500 people will still buy all 12 ($4500), but 400 will buy 9 games ($3000), 200 will buy 6 games ($1050), and 200 will buy 3 games ($600). that would give $9150 (more than selling them all as one whole bundle).

obviously, this all depends entirely on demand - that is, setting the price discrimination in a way to maximise the revenue. i'm sure they thought about this before they set it up…and they obviously believe they could make more money this way, otherwise they wouldn't have done it.

anyway, the point is: NO, the point of bundling is NOT to make EVERYONE pay for EVERYTHING. it is about making consumers (as a whole) pay for more than they otherwise would. ie. it is not necessarily about maximising the amount an individual will pay (as you suggested), it is about maximising the total profit (which is a trade-off between the number of people that buy and the amount they pay).

  • I'm familiar with The Ball and Xotic, but have not heard of any of the others. Anyone have any opinions on them?

    • Trouble deciding? Try before you buy.

Most of the games have Demos available. Direct link to the games Steam Store page above for your convenience.

    • i grabbed these:

      Sideway New York
      Diamond Dan
      Dark Fall: Lost Souls
      Beep
      The Ball
      Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals

btw, if you're wondering how the minimum cost works (doesn't say until you actually sign in and try building a bundle), it's:
$1 each for the first 3
$0.75 each for the next 6
    $0.50 for the 10th game
    $0.48 for the 11th game
    $0.52 for the 12th game

no idea why the last two games are like that (instead of 50c each).

  • Bought all 12 for $9, well worth it to grow my steam list (and as a direct result, my E-penis size).

Goal 1: Goal reduced to 4,250 units
    Goal Achieved

    Goal 2: 4,500 units sold

    • Celestial Mechanica - OST MP3 (320 kbs)
    • Celestial Mechanica - PC/MAC (DRM-Free Download)
  • I only found this bundle today. I like the idea of choosing what I want to buy. I paid more than the minimum for the games I got, and I got to skip several games I already own or picked up in other bundles.

There needs to be more of this type of thing.

    Positive vote from me.
