Amazon Prime Day 2022 (Tuesday 12 July - Wednesday 13 July)

From press release:

16 June, 2022 – Amazon Australia has today announced the date for its annual Prime Day shopping event,
giving Prime members access to huge savings during the world’s longest Prime Day. The massive shopping
event will kick off at 12AM AEST 12 July, with local deals running for 48 hours until 11:59PM AEST on 13
July. Deals from the UK and US will be available on Amazon.com.au through Amazon Global Store until
5pm AEST on 14 July, giving Australian Prime members access to a massive 65 hours of deals.

If you aren't already a prime member, it's $6.99 for 1 month, if you aren't eligible for a 30 day free trial. You might like to wait until the day before joining as a member, and then sign up if you see a deal you like that needs prime. If you wanted it more long term, it's $59 for a year which is 30% cheaper. You also get access to Prime Video and some other extras (see prior link).

While those who aren't interested in prime can block the Amazon Prime Day tag here, by clicking on the … menu in the top right hand corner then clicking hide on new deals and/or front page. Ensure that you are using the list front page for that setting to work.

The Prime Day 2022 Sales Page is active now.

heres hoping its better than the last few clanger years.

  • +15

I recall last year being a huge disappointment, so I’ll try not to get my hopes up this time

  • +49

i hope it is as disappointing as last year, saves me some money.

    • +3

worse than last year, so far just bought a bottle of 4L OMO laundry liquid

      • +2

        must… resist…

      • I bought 30 cans of pepsi max for $2 less than I'd pay at coles.

Plus a drawing tablet for 40% and camera batteries for 25% so not a total bust. No lenses that I'm looking at are discounted at all which is pretty underwhelming.

        • What's the tablet? Is it for adults or kids?

          • @Jazza2400: Wacom Intuos Small Graphic Tablet

It's for both, but my purpose is photo retouching.

prime is good, get free shipping, free music, free ebooks, free audiobooks, free streaming channel

    • +67

The free stuff that you pay for is amazing.

      • -2

        lol

      • +11

I'd pay for Prime just for the free shipping because the shipping is very fast. Prime Video is a bonus for me.

        • I find the Prime shipping time a bit hit or miss. I have a local sourced order at the moment which Amazon reckon will take two weeks to deliver. Other times it's almost next day.

      • +1

LOL. I do love when people say I pay for a subscription and get free stuff. No you don't, you just get a lot better value for the included stuff than you would if you paid separately.

        • +3

For things you wouldn't have purchased separately in the first place. It's bundle pricing economics to capture value.
          Let's say A+B+C is priced at $2.10. I value A and B at $1 each, but C only at $0.2.
If they were evenly priced individually at 70c each I would buy A & B for $1.40 and not buy C, and think I got a great deal because I would have spent $2.
In a bundle, A+B is "worth" $2 for me (assuming I can't buy them individually which would reduce my willingness to pay). C now comes out to be "only" $0.1, under my $0.2 perceived value. And so I spend $2.10.

The key is to mix quite different products in this strategy. If you have a large group of people were some only want A&C, or just B&C and you can value capture a larger audience with a fixed price and simpler marketing. This is why hardly anyone uses all of the prime features - there are very few who want or value ALL of the individual components.

Whether this is worth it depends on the cost to provide that product or service - let's say A, B and C cost $0.2 to supply.
In the first scenario the company received $1.40 minus $0.4 = $1.00 profit
In the second scenario the company received $2.10 minus $0.6 = $1.50 profit

          • @zbys: I saw that movie on Prime TV and read about it on my kindle! Crazy what people think is a deal these days. Oh well.

At least my leader is actually building me a space ship unlike that last Old man Hubbard told me about.

        • I know a tonne of people that used to rent a new release dusk for $6 weekly (when that was more hours worked) who now balk at $6.99 monthly. I don't watch it all that much but love having it there for the occasional show. Go off Prime and I find I can quickly spend $7 a month on other vendor shipping easily.

I am always amused by the comparison though.

      • True enough, but honestly I paid for prime just for the video, getting free shipping is great without looking at other stuff.

What free audio books? Does Prime include a subscription to Audible?

      • -1

        Google can help

        Is Audible free with Prime?
While it's technically an Amazon company, Audible is not included with a Prime membership, so you'll have to sign up for it separately. Once you do, however, you'll gain access to more than 470,000 audiobook titles (and counting).28 Sept 2020

        cost about $15 / m

        • I already know that hence why I was asking.

          Quoting sharkyoz:

prime is good, get … free ebooks

          • -8

@Quantumcat: Free ebooks is different to free audiobooks. Not difficult to understand.

  • anyone remember if theres been ipad deals?

  • +1

Hoping for some good deals. Last couple years were meh but 2021 was especially pathetic.

    • Bezos didn't make billions selling quality goods for cheap, he did so offloading crap.

  • Hoping to get a high end electric toothbrush. Happy to hear some recommendations.

    • +1

The Oral-B ones frequently go on sale for 1/2 price at coles and woolies and are very decent. I've got the 'povo' pro 2000 that does the job alright. battery lasts on avg 2w, brushing twice daily with the built in brush 'timer' function.

    • xiaomi oclean is a beast

  • +1

    Also a steam mop cleaner.

  • +7

    Also a flux capacitor.

  • The only midnight event I stay up for.

  • -4

Is it just me? I feel like I have found things I need on Amazon, ebay still king in Aus…

    • +5

It's just you. Amazon ships things for free the next day, same day if over a certain amount.
They also give me free returns, and they're usually cheaper than ebay.

      • +1

But it just never really has the range. I don't always find it cheaper personally. Return is free with ebay plus anyway, plus PayPal covers it.

      • +1

ships things for free the next day
        free returns

Both things that don't actually give anything significantly tangible.

I still use aliexpress for a lot of things. Amazon for large items or food.

  • +1

I’m hoping for sales on nappies, usually the do but last year it wasn’t that good

    • +1

OMG this. we've just had a newborn and mannnn did we under-estimate these micro eating and pooping machines.

    • I have religiously ordered nappies the last 3-4 prime days, disappointed with the sale this year. The hugely discounted are the ultimate.

Have a look at huggies store page, they are discounted slightly for the 1 month packs (usually pick them up $30-$40) https://www.amazon.com.au/stores/Huggies%C2%AE/page/BA219513…

    • We've had a subscribe and save for nappies and wipes since day 1 and we haven't ran out at all. Just need to remember to swap the nappy size as bubs grows.

      • Pampers didn't go on sale too much but are equal of not better than Huggies

  • I was hoping for some Sony wh 1000xm4s but doesn't look like there are any deals?

  • Keep an on eBay … some good discount codes May drop to fight Prime Day 😊

  • -2

Surprised the Prime Day page is not up and running yet. Pretty sure in previous years the mods has the page up 24h prior to start

    • +4

Amazon Prime Day Australia 2022 Deals & Promotions is already available. It's also linked in this post description, on the OzBargain home page banner and at the banner at the bottom of the description on any Prime Day deal posts.

It will be available in the pages menu on OzBargain later tonight also.

      • +1

Yeah but where do I find the prime day page? Just so surprised I've heard nothing about it???

  • +2

Ozbargain is doing a lot of publicity for Amazon, wonder if Amazon should or have paid ozbargain for advertising.

I do appreciate op and ozbargain on making it easier to find good amazon deal.

    • +1

Ozbargain do get paid if you click a deal link when you're not signed in.

    • hopefully makes for a bigger xmas party

  • +1

A Prime waste of time methinks, good luck to any whose sweet spot was hit.

  • T - 15 mins

  • 5 Minutes to go! Put your oodie on and overheat your PC before the midnight cold gets to ya!

  • +4

    I'm going to bed.

  • +8

    Nothing interesting

  • +6

I may as well buy a sex toy via amazon as i just (profanity) myself by staying up for nothing.

  • Disappointing so far. Some Blurays I was hoping to pick up cheap were only like $2-3 off, cheaper to wait for a JB HiFi deal.

  • Does JBHIFI pricematch with amazone prime day deals???

    • Good thought actually. I might get them to price match then pay with discounted cards ^^

  • -1

Totally didn't need to stay up for this :( Can't believe there aren't even size 1 nappies (usually a staple of past Prime Day sales).

    • +1

      These any good?

Extra 10% with the checkbox, I think it's about $0.18/nappy which I think is good.

      Found them here

      • Thanks. I did see this but I thought the one month boxes used to be about $40ish with S&S in the past and sometimes in the thirties… but my memory isn’t great and it’s impossible to reconcile order receipts in Amazon history due to promotional credits. I guess I need these so may as well order!

Ordered and came up as $37.26… I think that’s the 15% off to bring $50 down to $42.50 and then I think I had something from my Netflix gift card promo.

  • +1

I think the flip 3 was the winner at $599

Maybe the Xbox controller for $62 bucks after being oos everywhere for a month or so

  • +3

I forgot about Mass Effect Legendary Edition and the other game giveaways, so am posting this as a reminder for others. It's apparently available from 5pm AEST tomorrow, according to yolohobo in the original deal post.

  • +7

I've gone through my last year's past order history (I've bought an embarrassingly large amount of stuff from Amazon) and there is ONE item which is cheaper than what I bought it for. Many things say they are 40% off or some other crazy deal, but they have marked off imaginary RRP rather than what it's usually available for on Amazon.

This is worse than eBay price jacking.

    • Inflation has been a real killer, even for Amazon!

  • +4

I am disappointed for this year again. Random pop up deals are much better than this.

  • +1

No bargain another disappointing year Amazon

  • +2

Got ginger beer, Pepsi, bike tubes (meh price but needed some), Cetaphil oily skin cleanser, JJ corn starch powder, and a Northface Apex Bionic for 152.

The household items were good price, slightly lower than the typical lows. The Northface is decent, about 25% off typical retail, might return it.

There was some decent Samsung phone deals, Flip and S21, but no SD slot was a killer. The Lenovo Yoga for 700 odd was good but 8 GB wasn't.

    Meh Prime day overall.

  • Am glad I waited till today for the Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer!

  • +1

Bought a few things last year. Nothing stands out this year. 8 Mehs out of 10.

  • +1

I've been browsing every minute this morning (and work up in 5AM to see what I have missed), there's nothing appealing.
I thought I have picked quite a good deal last time. Disappointed.

  • Even the Quest 2 deal has gotten worse since last year. What a waste of time.

  • Outside of a few decent deals like the 2x 4K sticks for $70 there ain't much really. No decent sales on games, movies, etc

  • +6

    Wtf

    no good games deals
    no good 4k movie deals
    no good ssd nvme deals

I was hoping to pickup at least 1 from above :/

  • L'or coffee pods on sale

  • Pretty pathetic. Almost as bad as the joke that is Click Frenzy. I guess at least I saved $2 on a case of pepsi. Apart from that anything I am remotely interested in is either not on sale or the discount is tiny.

  • Got an amp for my passive speakers I've had sitting around - And even that wasnt at a great price, but needed to use my $15 mastercard gift card. so decided why not.

Everything else, unless you need cables or chargers……..garbage

    • Hi! May I please ask which amp you bought? We have passive speakers that came with the house and we've never used them.

      • I just bought the Fosi BT20A - but it really depends on the speakers and what they require.

  • Underwhelming.

  • +2

Really hope that ACCC gets onto the blatant Amazon price jacking. Unlikely, but it would be good. Almost all the big discounts are immediately after a huge markup on the price, and are often more expensive than standard discounts.

  • Been waiting for an awesome deal on the Waterpik for so long that I now have a whole meal's worth of meat debris saved away in my mouth

  • +1

Some OK discounts across the board but not much ‘Ozbargain’ worthy. Best days were during the Amazon eBay wars pre covid.

  • FYI if you (profanity) up the delivery address and have to cancel to fix it, you will not be able to reclaim the deal

  • -4

Just met a very ridiculous customer service. I was about to pay a deal and it was removed from my cart and error occurs. As it was the last one I thought it might be oos. But I then searched and find it still available so I took a screen shot. But when I press the link the price raised about $20. I then contacted the customer service who told me THE PRICE CHANGES FROM TIME TO TIME AND YOU CAN CHECK IT FROM TIME TO TIME. I asked her so even if it was Prime Day deal the price is like stock and I will never know when it is the time to buy it for cheapest price? She said yes……

  • Waiting for a c2 oled for $999

    • In 3-4 years :)

  • Pretty disappointed on the phone deals, I was hoping for a good deal on S22 ultra or the like as my phone's cracked screen stopped responding this week. The flip deal was really impressive but not the device I'm looking for this time. May just have to settle for ~$1400 as my phone is almost non-operational, or something cheaper.

  • +3

Clear sign that this year’s prime day is fukced up.
    Prime Deal price : $23.79
    Regular price : $17.46

Deal of the day for Prime Members: OXO 1101880 Good Grips Tongs with Silicone Head, 9-Inch Size / 23 cm Stainless Steel https://amzn.asia/d/j3aMQBW

    • +2

This is totally Unacceptable. Username checks out.

    • Ahh, see the $23.79 one is the UK version, which is vastly identical to the Australian version with an amazing improvement of nothing. You also get to add to the international freight problem and risk delivery delays for a significant discount of -$6.33! A smashing deal!

  • Got some cheap cat food so far, not too mad about it so far since the normal prices everywhere have gone up massively, but haven't really participated in previous years. What sort of offers did they use to have?

  • +1

Very disappointing Prime Day indeed! RRP’s mark ups are unreal! Luckily had kept tabs on pricing pre prime day and someone of them have been marked up twice the price!

  • RRP jacking in play!

    e.g.

    $1649 yesterday
    $1799 today.
