M2 air is worth it for the new body design and upgrades.

This is not much more than the usual 10% discount

Based upon AOC prices - I'd actually rather buy the M1 Air. 256gb one is $1,294.70 vs M2 Air at $1,678.60 and from what I can tell the improvements are not worth the extra $$, plus you can buy it this financial year.

    8G ram, sad

    • +7

Readying the popcorn for the eventual apple deffenders. Saying whatever reason we dont need more ram. Even if you do.

All i can say. No matter how great the tech they use to manage ram use better. More ram is still more ram. Its more efficiently using ram? Great. Give me double that so i can do more.

As someone who bought the 8GB based on all the reviewers saying its enough…. its not enough. It could be too many video tabs of ummmm "content" I have open.. All jokes aside I wish I had gone 16GB. Normal users probably would be fine with 8 but if you a tab hoarder or like leaving things open for later then you gonna hit a wall of spinning colour wheel :D

      • there is a red dot top right hand corner ;)

        • +7

          *top left hand corner :P

It’s funny how the reviewers say that 8gb of ram is equivalent to 16gb on the intel model. IMO i don’t think it should really be compared as the intel has a different architecture overall

        • +2

it's the apps …… e.g some people run chrome, even on a mac as it's better for things like outlook on web, etc,

problem is chrome and tabs …… sucks memory like crazy ….. at work we dumped chrome for edge ….. no more memory problems ….

the amount of memory people need has to viewed in what apps they run and then they should check for memory hoarders …. I wouldn't pay $400 extra for RAM I might not use , my intel macbook runs fine with 8GB, not sure i'd pay extra for 16GB if I was buying M2.

          • @garage sale: agree, ditch chrome on Macs. use edge or brave instead

      • Seconded. Read the reviews, thought on the balance that the M1 Mac mini I bought to use for my day-to-day work would be fine with only 8Gb of RAM.

Nope. My single biggest regret is not being patient and waiting a few weeks for a 16Gb to be delivered instead of being able to pick up the 8Gb next day at Fountaingate, mid-lockdown.

I would be hesitant to buy any Mac with the new model coming. If nothing else once the new M2 comes out the marketed will be flooded with people trying to sell off gear.

  • Damn, I'm after the 14 inch MBP

    • +1

Yeah same. If they had that would have snapped one up regardless of the M2.

      • +1

In the same boat as you guys. Keep in mind - I'm pretty sure M1 Pro is better than the newer M2. That's one of the reasons I'm keen for the new 14" MBP model. Apparently the Air models don't natively support multiple external monitors (just one).

There are also a few other niceties in the pro models.

        • Can confirm the Air doesn't support more than one external display (without hacky workarounds) - this is my main reason for wanting the Pro

          • @tommynolips: multiple screens, are people using multiple 1080p ? …. I moved to a single 4K 27" and ditched the 2x24" 1080p ….. much happier.

        • Yes. M1 pro 14" perform better than m2.

  • I'm after the M1 Mac Studio Max. Did Apple announce M2 version of these too? If not is it worth buying one now?

    • +1

      They haven’t. Yet…..

      • Any good deals right now?

        • I can't see any at the moment.

    • The M1 Pro, Max and Ultra in the Mac Studio are far more powerful than the M2. When they release those more powerful variants for the M2 then they will no doubt add them to the next gen Mac Studio, but that wouldn't be until next year at the earliest.

    • Not any time soon, they are still new

Get some The Ultimate Gift cards from Woolworth this week, you can save 10% more.

  • +3

This is not a real bargain. If you student you would have get 10% anyway. Some shops even give you 10% even if you not student.

  • +2

8gb is plenty enough for my uses on my 24" iMac, also my daughter at uni with a M1 air

  • $200 off Apple M1 MacBooks Air and Pro

  • +5

not even beating their own previous best price is hardly “clearing them out”

  • haven't seen the M2 prices for macbook air …. higher prices or same just M2 ?

    • -3

      From Apple;

with M1 chip From $999, New with M2 chip From $1199

      • that must be US $ ????.
but I'd pay the extra US $200 or AU $260 if it needs currency conversion for M2.

        • +1

they have the au prices on the au apple site if you care

    • +1

      M2 Air $1899 for 8-core/8-core/8Gb/256Gb, and $2349 for 8-core/10-core/8Gb/512Gb.

I would consider waiting for a 10% off M2 Air as it is pretty close to the price on offer here.

      • 450 EXTRA FOR 512g m2 Air? Why not just buy the m1 14" MacBook?

  • The lettuce price effects

  • I don't know why there's a clearance, apple are still keeping these in their lineup

    • +1

They've already removed the MacBook Pro M1 13" from the lineup.

      • Yeah my bad. I didn’t fully read the title.
I should’ve said they’re keeping the m1 air in the lineup.
