MacBook Air M1 purchase advice

Hi all, I’m looking at buying a MacBook Air M1 for general computing needs, study and in future some photo/video editing. Been scouring around for a good deal on one, so far the go seems to be the 512gb base model one . Ideally I’d like to get one in Space Grey, but just thismorning I’ve spotted this deal for a refurbished unit on JB HI FI’s page.

They unfortunately don’t have space grey in stock for refurb units. Does anyone have experience buying refurb MacBooks? The site says that any faults with the units have been rectified by Apple themselves and that they’re in perfect working order.

I could probably suffice with buying a Silver one given the size of the discount on this version of the MacBook.

What’s your opinions? Worth it? Spend the money on a new unit? Wait for M2 to drop and try to snag a discounted new one in the right colour?

  • Here’s the link to the unit I’m talking about as I couldn’t post in in the post. I’m a noob with posting haha

    • Or buy a brand new 256gb one for the same money…..

      • My downside to that is I miss out on another GPU core and the real world storage on the 256gb version is only about 150gb after OS etc…

  • It's your money. If you want a good deal buy the cheaper one regardless of colour. Chances are you will put a protective sleeve on there, in a different colour, if you want to protect it. A Replacement screen can be @ $600-800, depending on where you go etc.

  • Pretty good deal considering the same refurb unit from Apple direct is $1679

likely clearing in store display models ahead of M2s coming in. Screens on all day for 2 years

M1 has become a fossil some would say.
Mine is a marvel of a toy. Love the display and the sound is plausible.
I keep the battery between 20 and 80% as I have accept the fact that they are in the eyes of the maker truly disposable products.
Refurb? I do NOT advise so.

There is functionally and realistically no difference between a refurb and brand new product.

Also calling the M1 a "fossil" is ridiculous. Whilst the M2 has been announced, the M1 is still a great machine for everyday use.

Your choice! Refurb usually means a dodgy liquid damage repair. Yes it has sort of warranty again your choice. Feel free not to listen to all them what Gerry calls very happy customers, all his perspective. If it was not for people like you he would have long shut shop.
I use Windows and Mac. Enjoy each of the advantages. I take much greater care of the mac. Their products are a class of its own.
Gates had a great line. Times change and the way he treats immigrant Musk like a schoolboy I rather eat excrement than feed him.
My Macbook is an investment. Nobody spills liquid over it. The keyboard has a different feel. No issues with me. Missus loves her Acer, yes it works!
My windoze junk is great for fumbling and joking, I went from Commodore down to the 086, found out where the 186's are, been lectured by people that the 386 would be the pinnacle. Horses for courses. Before I flicked out money for the M1 I accepted Tim Cooks authority that the Air series is well built and if water damaged then if insured it is the way it is. No need to cry ones eyes out. My pc gets the coffee, keyboards are sub 10 bucks. Every refurb I ever bought had issues, the false smiles inside a HN store does not mean you get what you pay for.

Another noteworthy thing is it still has 1 Year Apple warranty + 2 Year JB warranty on top.
