Looking at the Cox Stockman VS Greenfield FastCut Classic. Which would be the best in terms of longevity, maintenance, repairs?
The area to be mowed is 3 acres of average lawn with some uneven and minor sloped areas.

Only going on RRP at the moment.
COX $5k
Greenfield $6k
We've got a greenfield fastcut and have had no problems since 2013. If you like being able to go forward and reverse without disengaging the blades then go for the greenfields (not sure how Cox handles it but some mowers wont let you reverse with the blades running.) Also pretty sure Greefields was bought out by Cox a few years back anyway.

(This article is now out of date and circumstances have changed drastically. The comment following quickly addresses the current situation but we have left the article as it a part of the Greenfield history that did once remain 19-03-2021. Cox is no longer producing the Fastcut 2 and the Greenfield unit will sadly no longer be manufactured. We thank all the Greenfield lovers and supports over the years and hopefully one day the brand does return as the unit we came to know and love.) Greenfield much like ourselves at Henderson Mowers & Chainsaws are a proud, family-owned Australian business supporting our own economy and own people. Greenfield has been manufacturing durable products for Australian conditions since 1966 and in doing so has built a reputation not many other machines can compete with.
For obvious reasons manufacturing in Australia has its complications although in a revised effort to maintain the quality, accessibility and support Greenfield has entered into an agreement with Cox Australia which will see them produce Greenfield products from their manufacturing site in Brisbane. This will combine over 100 years of Australian lawn mowing expertise between two of Australia’s most prominent brands Cox and Greenfield. We have been assured that this move will see Greenfield and Cox benefit as a whole spreading over-head costs and increasing buying power with the benefits being passed onto our customers. These benefits include more competitive prices, a larger model range and a more responsive spare parts management system.
With a new chapter comes change and Greenfield has added a couple of products to their range whilst also redesigning and improving the much loved traditional Greenfield Fastcut Model. We will go through each of the three models explain which market they are aimed at and why you should be purchasing it if it is right for you. We will start with the best and the one I am most excited about, the Greenfield Fastcut 2!
3 acres with a 32 or 34 inch deck will take a while. What are you currently using?
Images of Cox looks like a lightweight frame (vertical height of main frame rails) and lower profile tyres than Greenfield
.An old greenfield that is so old it needs updating. 32" cut.
They are pretty similar for maintenance and parts.
Both have fabricated decks which is great.
The Greenfield has 3hp more which would be helpful if the grass is long and wet.
32" deck is pretty small though. I have a 48" deck and it takes me a few hours to do 3 acres around our house.
longer it takes the better right. Ride on mowers are the biggest scam to get out of house work, whip on some headphones, and have some alone time.
lol serious? Come push mow my lawn mate I'd love to see that.
Think you missed the point. Mowing on a ride on is a way to get out of housework (he scam). Taking longer means less housework.
@Euphemistic: Oh yes I did :D
I normally cover 1 or 2 podcasts and enjoy the 2 hours of me time and the transformation to the garden. But F@#$ me, sometimes in the summer it's hard to beat the heat and the novelty wears off quick.
6am start, all my neighbours are good with this. but yes is brutal.
@Donaldhump: My neighbour is 1km away but I sure can't be arsed getting up at 6 to mow the lawns.
Transmissions are different, Cox uses hydrostatic (like Husqvarna), Greenfield uses friction plates. I've had a number of greenfields, they are very simple & easy to look after. The decks are smaller but they will go through wet/long grass like nothing else and get around uneven ground/slopes without a problem. Parts are relatively cheap.
greenfield
but id always pay more for husqavana or something.
any good deals you know of
