40% off Coffee Beans 12-Month Prepaid Subscription: $388.80 Upfront for 1kg Delivered Each Month @ ST. ALi

91

As part of their EOFY sale, they're having 40% off coffee beans subscription which is $388.80 per year ($32.40 per month).

You pay the $388.80 up front and each month they deliver 1kg of beans to you.

It isn't the cheapest as they had 50% off last Black Friday, but it's a great deal considering the RRP is $60/KG and is up there with the likes of Coffee Alchemy/Mecca

I am having the Wide Awake blend and it's great to lock in a price considering coffee prices are going up.

That's a big commitment of one type of coffee bean for only a decent discount

Thanks for this, good to know. If he was on reddit asking for posts to be taken down, I'm sure the hero is here too.

Thanks for letting us know. This should be taken off OZB before someone wastes his money and time!

$60/KG… I can understand paying that much for a single-origin or a lighter roast or a fermented coffee.
But there are plenty of reasonably priced options for "Chocolate", "Dark chocolate" and "Milk chocolate". $32 a month is perfectly reasonable though and is actually quite competitive with some of Ozbargain options.
I do recommend going on a coffee journey first and just trying everything you can get your hands on before you subscribe to drinking 4 blends a year.

    Any RAT tests included?

    • Yes. If you spend $388.81 or more. Interesting article/read posted by airlie50501.

Isn't the whole point of subscriptions, so you can try different vatiees, roasts etc.

St Ali is certainly no longer in the top tier of roasters. They have become a bit too like the fast food outlet if speciality coffee.

There is also no filter option and it's all boring blends.

I'd rather keep my Proud Mary subscription (and I'm in Queensland) .

    • FWIW, I don't think it is fair to say the whole point of subscriptions is to try different varieties, etc. That is a key benefit / reason for many subscription services, sure. But some subscriptions are merely a discounted / convenience regular supply of a fixed commodity.

You wouldn't expect different flavours of toilet paper if you subscribed to Who Gives A Crap for toilet paper! :)

It's just a different type of subscription model compared to the one offered by some other roasters / what might interest you (or me). For someone who loves a particular bean, and just wants to stick to what they know/like (which is probably 70% of coffee buying customers), a set subscription for a specific bean is probably suitable.

Having said that…it's St Ali, so (profanity) that. :)

I wouldn't want to pay somebody who is reported to take part in shady business practices up front for a year's worth of coffee.

What if he went out of business?

What if they go broke? You loose it all. Better get it from Sicilia coffee: https://www.siciliacoffee.com.au/ Reasonable prices, good coffee, no bs. Use THANKS10 or CHEERS10 to get 10% off. Buy 3kg pay only $5 for standard delivery. Thanks to other users more info about this shady ST. ALI business: https://www.gripeo.com/salvatore-malatesta/

  • Anyone found beans similar to the Orthodox blend? I have tried several different blends from local and online roasters but nothing tastes as good and strong. I thought sunset boulevard would but not quite strong enough.

    • +1

I haven't tried the Orthodox blend since been drinking the Wide Awake blend.

But you can try Coffee Alchemy - Hairy Chest Blend (chocolate/earthy) or Mecca Coffee - Moonwalker Blend.

      • Thanks for the recommendation! Will give it a go.
