Forgot to pay Vehicles transfer fees and vehicle duty

Hi guys,
I bought a private car on 21/5 with RWC. One day later I received an Transferred into my name email from Vicroads, so I thought the seller paid the transfer fees and vehicle duty as well.

On 23/5 I received another Transferred into my name, but I didn’t check. This email about Incomplete requirements (Payment of a transfer fee and motor vehicle duty) . Date of processing 23/05

Today 12/6 I received another one like the email above, Date of Processing 10/6.

Then I noticed that the payment hasn’t been paid.

But now I has been moved to QLD. I can’t come to Vicroad and I can’t do the payment online as well.

What should I do? Can I call Vicroad and make payment on the phone?

What is the date of the RWC?

    • RWC expired on 28/5
But in the Incomplete requirements does not mention about RWC. Just transfer fees and vehicle duty

      • Just call them on Tuesday, explain the situation and offer to pay over the phone.

You normally only have 14 days to complete this transaction. That period has expired so hopefully there are no issues.

        Forgot to pay

Well, technically you didn't forget as you believed the seller was responsible.

Lodge this form, RWC and fee payment (if applicable) to VicRoads within 14 days of sale by:
        – Visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre with evidence of identity, refer to vicroads.vic.gov.au/office-locations
        – Mail (including a completed Credit or debit card authorisation form if paying by credit or debit card. The form is available at vicroads.vic.gov.au/transfer-forms).
        Mail to:
        GPO Box 1644
        Melbourne VIC 3001

Looks like you can mail in the payment.

  • Have you moved to QLD permanently or for more than a few months? If so, just get it registered in Qld and hand the plates in when you do.

Failing that, give VicRoads a call and speak to them and tell them you can’t get into an office because you are in QLD. and see what they suggest.

    • In qld ‘on holiday for a month’

When you call Vic Roads, ask them if you can call Vic Roads to sort this out.

I asked to speak to Vic Roads but they said he no longer works there.

      • Ha! soooo good.

  • Many ppl here are saying the same thing is to call Vicroads for payment.
When it comes to paying them money they will climb every mountain to ensure a transaction so you'll be fine.
Now these days, to register a vehicle, there is a booking fee; ~ $50 booking fee (plus CC surcharge) for a Vicroads officer to come and inspect your car's VIN number and tick a sheet. Over my past life, I have never heard of this before. The walk-ins with no fee(s) are become the thing of the past. Money for nothing IMO. My local servo doesn't charge me a CC surcharge lol.

Buyer pays vehicle transfer fees, they always have and always will.
The email would be followed up with a letter requesting the payment, if you ignore it then you'll be hit with a $100 late fee, i've been caught by this before, just pay it.
Just make the payment over the phone, how is this a question?

    • Thank for your comment. Hopefully it will be smoothly, just 100$ fines for late payment.
I can not go back to Victoria in next couple years.

      • If it's not registered though that's a whole other kettle of fish and you may likely have an uphill battle transferring it to QLD, getting it checked over again and then registered.

        • It’s registered, just need to pay transfer fee and duty then I can do transfer to QLD straight away.
I will call Vicroad tomorrow early morning to make the payment on the phone.

  • I thought buyer pays transfer fees as well, except not in WA. (which I didn't know)
So when leaving WA i sell my car and head on my merry way travelling around Australia in my Coaster bus. Maybe 9 months later I get breathalized in QLD, I've had one drink so I'm 002, no worries right? So they check my license just in case… and it's been suspended because I didn't pay the fine for not paying the transfer fee I didn't know about.
So then I'm facing driving on a suspended license charges and also no valid license means legal alcohol limit is 0, so I'm drink driving as well.
Yeah I got well and truly fk'd by the system.
