Is it worth it to buy this?

    • +19

Is anything worth it these days?

        • -1

          Talk about racist

          • -1

@SpeedRunnerLink: It has a point, junk is junk, whether product of which country is irrelevant.

            • +3

@wtfnodeal: Why is there a need to mention China ? There is plenty of good products from China and many other cheap junk products from other countries . Feels like a targeted racial comment to me .

              • -1

@SpeedRunnerLink: How about "Cheap 'Countries with lax labour laws' junk"?
Feels like in order to consider it racist you have to make a willful suspension of intent.

cheap people buy cheap junk, you get what you paid for

If you meant whether a pair of joy cons justify $87.20 IMO yes. Whether it is necessary to have another pair in addition to the ones come with the console that is subject to whether you have many people play together or not.

  • Will these still drift as bad as the ones that come with the console?

    • Also very keen to know if the ones in the box are more prone than the unbundled ones.

Given that there has been very few joycon sales on OzB, I’d assume that they’re putting these ones on sale for a reason. Maybe they’ve ironed out the fault and decided to clear out old stock?

    • Yeah as far as I know they haven't changed the design at all so eventually you'll have the same problem. Nintendo is replacing them for free though if they drift but no guarantees you get the same colours back.

      • Where is this information of them replacing them Thanks

          • @FrugalSplack: This isn’t for Australia and Nintendo Aus do NOT do free repairs of joycons. (Unless something has changed in the last 12 months?)

Source: I sent my joycons away to be fixed by Nintendo Aus, they verified the drift issue with my joycons and gave me a choice:
            1. A $20 fee to return them to me un-repaired
            2. $100 fee to fix them ($50/joy)

When I mentioned that they can be bought for equal or less than that new, they didn’t care at all.

            What a dumb Nintendo.

            • @theSav: This seems against Australian law. If it's faulty and it's a known issue, they're legally obliged to repair or replace for free for a reasonable period (depending on how long you expect the product to last, likely 2 to 3 years for this).

              • @greennick: I don't disagree with you, but it was what it was and Ninty have rubbish repairs here apparently..

            • @theSav: Thank you for saving me $20.

  • can you connect to a rpi4 and use with lakka?

Can you ask a bunch of pointless questions on ozbargain?

Yes you can, just like ^^this one^^.

    Is this made in Australia?

Does my bum look big in this ?

Pretty slick price after Nintendo Aus last week charged me $20 to send a Joy Con back to me that they deemed not faulty in their testing. Got it back and the buttons still weren't registering at times. They want me to send it back to them for more testing but have told me they will charge $20 again if it doesn't fail their tests!

    • +1

Do they give you the original $20 back if it does fail second time round?

      • They said they'd give me the initial $20 back if it was still showing signs of being faulty when I got it back, I sent them a video of it and they still said they'd have to test it again in order to give me back the initial $20, but if it passes then I'd be charged another fee. It's like some kind of sick double or fixed joycon nothing type game with Nintendo Aus!

        • I had the same experience 12 months ago. Nintendo Aus do NOT do free joycon repairs..

They did admit that the drift issue exists, but they did not fix for free

          • @theSav: Bummer, I got a pile of them by now.
Thank you for saving me $20.

Can we send them to US? :)

Does anyone know if jbhifi can pricematch with amazon?

    • Try calling them. My son had damaged the left joy con. Cheapest single left joy con i found was at EB for $48 and was pre-owned. Called jb and they price matched Catch this morning.

    • Yes, Amazon is one of the only non brick and mortar sellers that JB seem to price match.

  • They’ll be drifting out the door at this price.

  • -1

Can't decide if I need an extra pair given I hardly use the console. How many hours roughly before they drift?

  • +1

Yellow and Blue has been added

  • I just bought two pro controllers @$30 ea because I thought they would be better than the joy con and cheaper 🤷‍♂️

    • Where are getting Pro controllers for $30?

This is what I bought. I’ve used them briefly and they seem good I’m just genuinely unsure why these aren’t better than joy cons and obviously cheaper.

        • oh, generic third party controllers. Apples to Oranges.

          • @Richfield: I thought that might be the case but I'm ignorant as to why these aren't comparable to joy cons or pro controllers are hence sort of asking the question. Care to enlighten me?

        • If you get a chance compare motion controls on joycons vs this controller
Firing arrows in BoTW would be a good test if you have the game
Very interested to know if they perform just as well

I'm new to Switch (just bought, waiting to receive it), why would you buy a spare set of controllers? Is it to be used for multi player games when 4x people are playing at once? I also saw some comments about the controllers drifting. Is this a common thing when they are shipped new?

    • +1

Yes multiplayer games. I haven't experienced the drift but if you google it there's plenty of info about.

  • rip, its now back to $99
