Just looking for a new phone for wife on a Vodafone plan. Iphone is nearly $1700 so is the galaxy s22 ultra. Should we
a) Wait for a newer model to release in September/October?
b) Buy a Samsung S22 Ultra 128gb.
c) Oppo Find X5 Pro
d) or choose Fold 3 which is like $10 more for 36 months.

Don’t pay extra for the fold. It will break easier and last less time than the other options.
iPhone is a reasonable buy as long as you can get it for less than RRP. Paying full price does seem a bit silly with only a few months before the next one coming out.

Get the Max, with it being almost bezel-less it's actually a good size for a phone and the battery life is hours longer. I do have long fingers so if you have tiny paws it might not be ideal.
If you really need a phone, just buy it.
Do you really want to chance having to stuff around with a replacement phone when the fold 3 hinge breaks?

Why do you need to have an $1700 phone ??
Most would say "because they can", but agree, $1500 - $2000 for a iphone (or any phone) which most will want to upgrade in about 2 years time anyway, is ludicrous.
Meh, depreciation per hour of of usage on a phone is far less than a car…
And they're putting it on a 36m contract, so they really can't afford it ha.
I have the Samsung s22 ultra and wife has 13 pro.
Her phone stops connecting with data in fringe areas well before mine - to the extent that she connects and uses my data in fringe areas.
Camera is brilliant, screen really clear and bright for outside, battery life really good (have heard complaints from gamers though)
We are both really impressed with the s22u, the 13 pro- not so much…
I would recommend a good hard look at the s22u unless you are fixed on the 🍏 system.
Never had an iphone in our family but a new one may lunch in a couple of months. S22U looks amazing, do they sell Snapdragon variant of this device here in Au?
