Ill likely have light to moderate requirements as far as gaming goes - will the Intel® Iris® X Graphics or should I be looking for a discreet carded machine?

Played Solitaire just fine at highest setting.
The AMD "G" series is far better, will do low to medium settings for almost any game @ 1080p … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1tmbiRvGHg

Specifically the AMD 5600G or 5700G, cheaper motherboards too ;)
5700G retails at about $450, for that much pick up a 12400F and a used 1070 for the same price and it'll blow it away in terms of gaming. Plus the 5600G/5700G are pretty gimped, half the L3 cache, no PCI-e 4.
Pricing difference on boards has dropped significantly too. Still not quite equal but it's cheap enough for a decent B660 board that'll do everything needed.
What games are we talking about here? Probably won't be able to run much at high settings, but games before 2015 may be able to run decently well.
