Monitor for Primarily Work and General Use ~ $200

Hi everyone,

Sorry I'm don't have much clue about this, but
I'm looking to buy a monitor for ~$200 (this is what work is going to reimburse me), and I would like everyone's opinions on what to go for. It would primarily be for work, so would need to look at it for a long time, and I usually need to look at 2 things side by side, so probably a larger screen would be better?

I've narrowed it down to 3 options, and would like your guys' opinions on what would be best? I'm open to any other recommendations as well. Thanks!

Accidentally sent a link that ozbargain didn't like in my previous comment.

Size is not what determines looking at things side by side, it is resolution, and frankly I find 1920x1080 to be too low resolution for a 27". A 22" at 1080p or a 27" at 1080p will display exactly the same amount of info.

I really recommend pushing for either a bigger reimbursement allowance, or topping the rest up yourself, and going for a 2560x1440 monitor such as this, as that extra resolution is what will make life easier as far as looking at 2 things side by side.

    • Agree, 1080 at 27 inch is not ideal, 1440 much better. But then some people find the text on 1440 too small, so prefer 1080

And I would definitely not go curved on a 27 inch

I would advise go a shop where they have them on display and decide what size/resolution you like.
Then can look for a good deal and hit up your boss for a few more $$

    • Did it have your own affiliate tag in it? Or you may have visited an affiliate website in the last 24 hours and your cookies added the tag automatically.

  • Something to consider is the resolution of the screen. All three screens are 1920x1080 and depending how close you are sitting you might notice the lower resolution. If you think that would bother you it might be better going for a screen that is 2560x1440 at the same size. All depends on your budget and if you are willing to be out of pocket for some of it.

  • Tell your boss to fork out 💵 for a pair of monitor glasses. You'll need them for the amount of 💡 that the LCDs emits.

  • and I usually need to look at 2 things side by side

    Get two monitors then…

  • I'd choose the MSI out of the 3 monitors you've linked.

  • Hi everyone, thanks for all the advice and insight. It's been really helpful!

I should have mentioned that I'm currently using 2 HP Z23n monitors in the office (23inch, 1080p, 60Hz).

I don't have the space to have 2 monitors at home, hence why I'm only looking at one monitor.

    Thanks!

As your current monitors are 1080p, by going from two 23" to one 27" at the same resolution, you will actually be halving your usable real-estate, as you won't be gaining any usable space, you will just be making what you are looking at bigger. At a minimum I would go for 2560x1440 on a 27", especially considering you are already losing real-estate from going from two monitors to one. If you want your home setup to be at all comparable, a 27" 1080p is not the way to go.

23" is tiny! You'll want a 32" 1440p monitor for clarity and easily having 2 docs side-by-side. Definitely worth it, especially if only having one monitor. Don't get 27" or smaller. You may need to extend budget but worth it.

  • Thanks guys! After reading some of the new comments and more research, might have to go in for a 32" 1440p. I am willing to consider something ~$350-400.

    Any recommendations?

  • Can someone please suggest me a 27" Monitor with height adjustable. I need this for a friend of mine who sits in front of it for a long time (8-10hrs/day) so better eye-comfort and adjustable height would help. Many thanks and sorry if I have posted this in a wrong post.

Found one in Costco in-store HP M27ha FHD Monitor for $300 but only 1year warranty so thinking 3-year warranty for $300 would be best buy.

Another one found https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/25plus-inch/905… but incl delivery almost $360

Another one found https://www.centrecom.com.au/viewsonic-vg2748-27-wled-ips-fh…? for $250 but boarders are thick
