Booking.com: 12% CashBack (Was 5%) @ Cashrewards

182

Hi,

Just looking to book a getaway and can see that Cashrewards are offering 12% cashback at the moment.

Seems to be about midrange as the cashbacks have previously been between 10-15% with CR and SB.

Cheddar recently had 20% back with expedia but I wasn't willing to risk it …

Keen to know what others think.

Keen to know what others think.

Last time I checked prices were higher when clicking through CR, often more than the money you get back … so yeah, buyer beware.

For example, weekend @ Meriton suites in Sydney: without CR $795, with CR $990 - 119 = $887. Dodgy AF

So the CR landing page on Booking.com = inflated prices?
      That's very dodgy!

I'm going to Bali for a month and have made 8 separate accommodation bookings with Agoda via shopback or cashrewards when they had increased cashback rates. Only one of the bookings actually increased in price when going through cashback. So it's definitely worth checking both with and without cashback as I have saved quite a lot of money on most of the properties I have booked.

Another thing to note is I would get different prices depending on whether I'm on my mobile going through the agoda app, or on the mobile web browser going to agoda.com and then different prices again using the web browser on desktop PC. Just make sure the prices are all inclusive of taxes/fees. When I was experimenting with a VPN to see if the prices were different, I noticed it quoted prices without taxes and fees which were an extra 10% x2 added at the checkout.

So, if you have the time to spare its worth comparing them all as sometimes the price differences were quite significant. Start a notepad document to compare all the prices.

Another thing was Agoda was always the cheapest out of all the booking platforms for the accommodation I booked. Not saying it's the case all of the time but.

Agreed. They're dodgy. The price is always more when clicking through cashrewards but same price if we click through shopback.

If it's more for Cashrewards it's more for Shopback since they both go through the same affiliate link. Neither cashback company can control the pricing on Booking.com. Rather booking.com increases the price for some but not all hotels when going through an affiliate link.

Is it dodgy? 100% yes. Are the cashback companies responsible? 100% no it's out of their control.

Apologies, I entered the wrong dates in above example, so please disregard the prices on that one :(

However, still check with/without CR, I definitely found some prices were different previously when I was trying to book

Yep same thing for us, CR prices way higher than normal booking.com…. DODGY !!!!

    • I just clicked the activate cashback through my browser extension and it didn't seem to make a difference ?

    • +1

I had the same experience. Checked in incognito mode and yup magically lower. Rep needs to confirm this is fixed for me to remove my neg vote

      • Interesting my price has not changed with incognito vs. clicking on cashrewards link vs. activating in browser.

Perhaps post some screenshots so we can get evidence to forwards to CR as that sounds dodgy

      • yep $602 vs $554 for example ~8% cheaper to avoid CR

  • +3

Yeah, prices are definitely way higher on that landing page than if you book directly on the website.

Yep had some accommodation I was looking at booking. Jumped up $40 when I clicked through with cash rewards.

  • I've been using trip.com for accommodation spanning a few countries a few months in advance. Surprisingly they have beaten the other ota's by a good chunk and thats before a measly 6% cb from shopback.

Everything about these booking aggregation sites is dodgy. They have very nasty contracts with the hotels.

I'm also sick of cashrewards sending me emails about deals on stuff like this; also fashion. They should know by now that I don't click through to those sites or make purchases there, ie: I don't care, and spamming me only gives me negative feelings

    • Ever heard of the unsubscribe button?

      • Obviously not useful when you want the other offers

  • It used to be 15 to 18% a while ago. I booked it for sept accommodation via agoda.
