I stacked this deal with the $10 Vodafone sim and coles gift card offer for one of my kids, without needing to unlock
The realme C21 is currently $139 at realme. Looking at the main site this is also a single SIM model apparently supplied locked with an unlock code. It seems you do get an extra year of Android updates from Oppo so that another thing on the A16s side of the ledger.
Oppo A16s has NFC too
I didn't deny that. It is also slightly superior to all the phones I mentioned. I should also mention the Vodafone locked Motorola moto e7 which is comparable though with a slightly slower processor on paper and the lesser e7 power variant with half the RAM and flash and slightly slower again due to running the same processor in 32 bit mode but with a bigger battery to justify the power suffix. All the Motorolas I have mentioned lack NFC and 5GHz WiFi but since you can frequently get the e7 for as half or in the case of the e7 a quarter that might be worth the trade-off.
Just saying I don't think its a great deal.
is it easy or expensive to unlock?
Optus Realme C21 currently $139 at Big W:

Seems only marginally better than the Optus locked realme C21 which on special this week for $159 with a $30 starter kit at Coles. Unless USB-C and 5GHz WiFi are important enough to justify the price difference I'd go for the latter which has sold for a low as $29 when Woolworths was clearing them out. I reckon $100 is more like a reasonable price for both. As I write this $183 will buy you an unlocked Motorola moto E32 which lacks 802.11a and NFC at JB HiFi but is a dual SIM right out of the box no hacking required and was released just last month rather than a year ago.
Some Coles may have stock of the realme C3 for $99 which is superior to the C21 but that is a 2020 phone and will have even fewer updates.
