  • can just get a key off of ebay for lifetime

  • Years ago I absolutely loved this software, but when Windows 10 came out it, MalwareBytes became an absolute resource hog, had to dump it.
The tool also flagged innocent and typical cookies as Malware, you know the type that IMPROVE your browsing experience. Lacked a quick option to not-detect these pre-scan. Personally if I ever had malware, would re-format and start fresh, but if you can't this is one of the best scanners to detect and clean Malware, just can't recommend the real-time options. (But hopefully they have improved!!)
Lol: My Lifetime license is still valid!! Will check it out!!

    • I am on windows 11 now so gonna see how it preforms, so far I've been loving the free software / trial of full version.

      • Same. I just installed on Win11 and have noticed any changes in system performance. When not scanning, consumes 0.2%-0.3% CPU
Tip for new users: Turn off Real-Time and Auto-Quarantine, until you do your first scan and add your exclusions.
Browser Plug-In, actually seems decent. Can't claim it makes browsing "faster" as per their marketing, but certainly doesn't slow it down.

  • these are not worth it considering you can get lifetime keys from other places, already bought around 10 of them and have been working since 2016

    • Never knew there was a lifetime license being sold does it provide latest updates and also is it only for MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Premium or does it also include privacy and browser guard? would be cool if u can link some places that sel lthem.

      • My license would be 10+ years old, it activated all components.

They stopped selling lifetime licenses back in 2014. Any ones you buy now are being re-sold (and with the possible chance of not being honoured as it was against the t&c's to on sell them) also some are being onsold after being extracted from compromised machines.

  • If you have it installed but not registered it offers you these prices at least twice a month.

    • I've had it for a year and this first time I get such an email. Maybe I've been missing them but glad I got it in time because I was prepared to pay full price last week when I got identity theft hacked.

Not a bad price. Also, please note it is much cheaper if going via Brazil and other lower cost countries (VPN required). For example I recently paid approx $40 for 5 devices / 2 years subscription.

    • Oh wow thats really good, how did you do it exactly and there's no problems when you switch back to Australia?

      • +2

Just VPN to Brazil, go to malwarebytes website and it will give you prices in BRL. No issues so far.

        • +2

Thanks for the Tip about Brazil. Turkey\India are my usual go-to countries but varies by software.
Sometimes get stuck on payment options….:)

      Thank you sir!

I never thought to try this. I just got the regular MalwareBytes Premium without the extra stuff I didn't want. 2 years / 2 Pcs = $26.06 AUD
Last year I paid for 12 months / 1PC with a discount deal running for $45 AUD so this is almost 4 times better value. Bargain!

I did try other locations, India and most places just default to USD, Argentina ends up costing a few bucks more than Australia (lol), I forgot to check Turkey, that may have been even better.

      NOTE to anyone trying this:
If paying with PayPal, you'll need to enter a fake address in using https://www.fakexy.com/fake-address-generator-br otherwise it'll realise you're in Australia before the final payment and default up in price.

  • Malware Bytes lol

  • Any point in this given I use eset on one computer and mcafee on my other?

Defense in depth… each have their strengths, but honestly no.
If you download dodgy stuff or visit dodgy websites no software provides protection, use a scratch VM with checkpoints and rollback afterwards.
Heuristics only does so much, you still very much rely on sites being reported and added to their block lists. So the more block lists, the more likely you will be protected from clicking on a phishing link.
      * CloudFlare Security or Family DNS (eliminates a lot of the known malware\phishing sites)
      * Defender (Great for Antivirus and malware), pretty poor\low phishing detection, so compliment with this or another product. No way I could endorse McAfee.

No way I could endorse McAfee.

McAfee, the cure is worse then the disease.

        • Why does everyone hate on mcafee? I'm literally curious in not being sarcastic…

          • @Misha Bakunin: Well the hatred started in the early 90's when John McAfee first popped up with McAfee antivirus and his background, selling HIV-Free indentity card back in the 80's surfaced.

Then his claims versus facts of.his software came to light (he claimed to be the best, but Norton's was much better). There were many instances where other individuals & companies intellectual property was just stolen and added to the software. As a result many err kids with too much time in their hands (including me) used to write malicious software just to circumvent it.

Then in the late 90's and ever since, the McAfee AV has caused systems to slow down, freeze, have multiple false positives, and missed many things it should have stopped.

The biggest issue is how much resources it consumes, but isn't that effective. It's been awhile since I've played with it, but even 5yrs ago it was trivial to write some software to disable it.

TLDR: morally I hate the brand. Practically it's not very effective & is poorly written & often ill-tested updates slows your PC down causing it to grind to a halt. The number of servers that I've looked after that McAfee has caused to grind to a halt is in the 1000's. But CIO's are mesmerised by the marketing BS and the price.

            • @M00Cow: Yeah i have mcafee free trial now and can say throughout the day every day it gives me pop ups saying my protection well end in xx days and if I want to accept the risk or buy the software lol thatshit drives me crazy, going to uninstall it tonight.

No, if you're happy with them, there's not a lot of point. Personally I use this because I got a 2yr 10pk for $100 (so handed out to family & friends, who seem to believe they need to pay for it or it doesn't work). Windows defender and being sensible is usually enough.
