Please Recommend Me a Wireless Headset for Office Work

EDIT: Have purchased Jabra Evolve2 65 MS Teams for $299 from Amazon UK

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12246633/redir

Hi all,

I have been searching high and low.

I use MS teams at work - currently using a 3.5mm adapter with some Earpods.

I choose this as it is a lot more compact compared to the wired JABRA my work provides.

I am after a wireless headset, like this: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/jabra-evolve-65-uc-stereo…

Happy to spend up to $300, but really want a good deal (this is OzB).

Bluetooth or Dongle (both prefered) is fine

Multi-device a bonus.

I’d like easy options to mute (flip to mute) and for it to work well with teams. And obviously have good voice clarity.

Prefer USB-C charging, too

Can anyone recommend any that I can then keep an eye out for?

Cheers

  • I had the wired version of these and the earpads fell off. Work gave me these ones and they work okay.

Will the headset purely be for home use?

Edit: These seem to tick your boxes and have a lot of good reviews. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/jlab-go-work-wireless-hea…

    • Will the headset purely be for home use?

Yep - I WFH, but would want to take it in for the rare occasion I am in the office.

Thanks for the recommendation - they seem great

i use a wh-1000xm3 - now up to xm5 and it does the job as well if not better than the work supplied "teams ready" headset.
With the added bonus that it's comfortable and great to listen to music on.

    • my xm-1 after years and years of service, and being thrown around in a gym bag finally had the dreaded hinge snap issue the other day. Would you rate the 3? Im thinking maybe i just shell out for the 5.

      • +2

3 is great. Unlike the 5, it folds up and has NFC. Only negative is that it can't do multi-device connections

        • +2

I know right - what was sony thinking removing the folding (though i guess it address the snapping band issues). 5 apparently has better mics though? And yeah hard to go back to non-multi device option for work… so damn convenient.

      • I bought some replacement hinges on eBay - they're still going strong! Battery lasts long, and they still sound great.

I just tried searching for them, but then remembered they came from Russia…so yeah.

        • +1

yeah i found a listing on ali that was still alive but they still wanted something crazy like $55 and they kept referring to a v2 of headset? I got mine on release with the sony x program so fairly sure its a v1 if anything.

i am handy with soldering and fine electronics repair but didnt want to take the chance as the listing was dodgy as.

i guess i will count myself lucky i didnt experience the problem with in early on like a lot of others did.

    • +1

      Any complaints about the mic?

I find it a bit hollow.

      • I haven't exactly listened to myself with it, but I haven't had anyone else comment on it.

    • My issue is that I think I'd prefer to have a headphone like that for personal use.

My work laptop is heavily locked down, and I can't access music on it.

So I'd want it to be able to switch between many devices, where most only support 2. If I were going down that route, I'd use it exclusively for personal use (phone, PC) as I am not sure I'd want to be manually pairing it each time I go to use it for work.

  • I use jabra engage 75 stereo version, with the adapter for my yealink desk phone it set me back about $600 but so worth it as can pick up calls from my desk phone, my personal iphone, my work android phone, PC apps (skype, line, whats app etc), ridiculous range too. Engage 65 is more your budget but the range isnt as good (if that matters) - I believe the 75 also had improved noise cancel over the 65's NC.

  • AirPods Pro are the best option. Connects great to Dell work laptop, use it for MS Teams all day long then switch back to iPhone after work.

    • Agreed. If you dont need multi-device support, it's great.

If you're using it with ipad/iphone the auto hand over is fantastic.

    • Thanks for this - I use an iPad and iPhone for work when I need to be out and about.

Would it seamlessly switch between my Dell laptop and those two iDevices? If so, that's the winner (as I am after a pair for the iPhone anyway)

EDIT: Just watched a video, and looks like you'd have to select them manually in Windows each time.

      • +1

Yeah it won’t - it’s depending on the h1 chip

  • Make your work pay for it - not you

at my work they took away our desk phones and told us to use Telstra Business Connect and then refused to provide us with headsets

I now just dont answer the phone due to having nothing to answer it with lol

    • I'm a contractor - not going to happen

  • As others have said, consider a standard wireless ear bud option, need to check the mute button but you can then use them elsewhere as standard headphones. Or gaming headphones, which are much higher quality headphone wise, although can be lower quality microphone wise so need to hunt around - some come with detachable mics, so you can then use these as normal headphones as well

  • Also might be worth checking if the work computer gives you permission to connect wireless devices.

    • Yeah it does - I can connect my MDR-1000x to them just fine.

  • I have a pair of these ausdom overear headphones from aliexpress ~$37 delivered

has the mic in the earpiece but clear speech .

    Sound is very good

battery life is excellent >10 hours

    though uses microUSB charging cable

this and other models of ausdom have been posted on OB before with positive feedback.

I would recommend against the headphone designed headsets - ie Bose QC/700 and Sony XM series etc if you are ever in an office setting. Same with Airpods and anything else without a boom microphone.

Sure, headphones can be passable but in an office environment they will have trouble isolating your own voice and will pick up a lot of background noise. There's no replacement for a dedicate boom mic

Jabra, Plantronics, BlueParrot are the main players in this space - something not talked about much is how the XM and Bose 700 still have known issues; for reliability and call controls I would stick to those 3 main brands

    • Great advice, thanks a lot

Colleague got one of these Plantronics single-ear thingies recently, loves it:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B079DDRSNM

Price has gone up though, it was around $105

I have used Jabra and Plantronics and IMO Plantronics have much nicer cushioning and less weight on their headphone style offerings.

I have had one of these since 2015/6 or so and still going strong, just need to replace the earpad 'leathers'. https://www.headsetsonly.com.au/shop/plantronics-voyager-foc…

Microphone quality is beyond exceptional and it has ANC for you and the caller on the other end. Music is also very good IMO, really good staging and quality mids & bass. Not muddy at all.

You can pair 2 devices at once which is ideal for mobile & PC.

I cannot praise this headset enough. I think there is a newer version now so shop around and see what's the best value.

    • Thanks for that detailed write-up. I like the sound of that, but the large base station is a bit of a turn-off

Have you purchased from that site before?

      • I haven't, you can get the same headset without a base. The newer version should be USB C also. Mine is only MicroB.

Poly Voyager 4320 UC MS USB-C Binaural Wireless Headset with Charging Stand

Great headset. Works for me perfectly.

I use the Jabra Evolve 65 - great for work calls and connect to both iphone and dell laptop.
They are ok for music…… but I'm no audiophile.

  • I bought a couple of these for our office recently and they've been great.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/jlab-go-work-wireless-hea…

At least half the price of most brand name competitors, multiple ways to connect, bluetooth (no dongle required), USB C or AUX.
Great microphone, audio quality and battery life is fantastic. They've also been reduced to $99. For me they're a fantastic bargain and better than the $300 Jabra's I used to use.
    They've also got multi-device support.

I’m using the Microsoft Modern Wireless Headset. Got it for just over $100; usb dongle or Bluetooth, decent battery life and no issues with audio quality etc.

    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/microsoft-modern-bluetooth-…

    • I think this is the one for me. I am in Teams all day, and I want the mute to sync.

Thanks all for your recommendations. I was going to go the J Lab, but would ultimately prefer Microsoft for a little more

      Cheers.

I have the Jabra Evolve 65 and although it seems to work fine, I feel it's not very durable, I'd expect more for $300.

    • Thanks, why do you say it’s not durable? Because it’s all plastic?

      • +2

The leatherlike earpad came off mine I super glued it back on thanks to this https://youtu.be/FmBGh1-TU-o

They also don't sit as tight on my head anymore, so have sort of stretched, lost their U shape a tad compared to when they were new.

Thanks to all who responded - ended up going with the Jabra Evolve2 65 MS Teams w/charging stand for $299

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B086LM1C97?psc=1&smid=A3JCEYBC5…

Don't particularly like the colour, but I have about 10 black headphones, so these will stand out on my desk

3 left at time of posting.

I am looking at https://www.logitech.com/en-au/products/headsets/zone-wirele… so one usb port can be used for K780 Keyboard & M720 mouse.

  • Astro A50 gaming headset is pretty good quality wise. Very comforable.

  • I have the 450BT (same but without the red), despite not having an extending microphone the voice quality is very good. I use it in a noise office environment occasionally and no one I'm speaking to comments on background noise. Battery life is awesome, USB-C charging and does 2 simultaneous connections.
    Currently half price at $149.
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/sennheiser-hd-458bt-over-…

Or if you want buds, I have the Jabra Elite Active 75T. I was really sceptical about what the voice quality would be like, then a colleague bought them and I realised they were great. I use them when travelling, much smaller than the Sennheiser. Music quality is very good, noise cancelling is absolutely outstanding, dual device and USB-C charge.

Honestly, after now doing over two years of constant Zoom and MS Teams calls, and seeing the various kinds of shit that people use, get a headset that has a dedicated microphone that sits near your mouth. It is much clearer.
I think for long term use, get headphones as opposed to in-ear buds.

Edit: And I now see what you got. This is a good choice. Separate well placed microphone, and a bonus charging strand - this was the other thing I was going to remember - people dropping off because they forgot to charge their headphones.

  • I quickly checked the answers and can't believe noone suggests the bone conduction headphones! They are Bluetooth and don't annoying your ears! MUCH MIRE COMFORTABLE then anything else and you can still hear others!

    Have a look at these
    https://lonelybrand.com/best-bone-conduction-headphones-aust…

  • I've had several pairs of Bluetooth Earphones with mic but when connected to laptop, the audio degrades to mono to support the microphone. Works perfectly fine if just for audio, or on my phone.

How are these devices getting such clear microphone? All my research points to restriction in Bluetooth channel on Windows.
