Prism Drive and Their Zero Knowledge Encryption

Hi all, does anyone know if Prism Drive is any good as a zero knowledge encryption cloud storage provider?

I've seen a pretty good offer with them for lifetime cloud storage however, I'm not sure if they are any good. Their site has limited information in the fine print and I cant find what I'm looking for in their reviews.

Hoping someone here might know about their services and specifically how good they are with zero knowledge encryption.

When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is, OP.

Almost certainly a scam dude. Domain name was only registered in March 2022. A fixed lifetime cost for an ongoing cost for the business is not a sustainable model. If you want secure online storage, you should look at Proton Drive or possibly filen.io (but I'd probably give them a little while yet).

That's the point of zero knowledge encryption, the provider have no idea what your keys are so there is nothing of value they can hand over except a pile of encrypted files.

It means if you forget your own key you're screwed though, no recovery.

The website says ZK but is it real?

Data stored on US soil will get 🐏 hard by the FBI when they want to.

Looks like off the shelf software that delivers ZK, but I imagine they've screwed up somewhere and kept passwords in log files or something. The entire thing smells like a scam so I wouldn't trust anything they do.

I doubt any data is safe from the 3 letter organisations (even the IRS has access to everything) that involves hosting on a third party website.

If you're really concerned about data privacy, you need to DIY anyway. Anyone can claim to have ZKE, and actually have no encryption at all. Difficult for you to verify either way. Only places that have been proven to have ZKE can be trusted, and even then it's risky.

If you're just looking for cheap storage, you're still better looking elsewhere, unless it has no real value to you (in which case why are you paying to store it anyway?)

I wouldn't touch this site with a 50 foot pole, whether they have ZKE or not is pretty moot when the entire site probably won't last 6 months.

I dunno why the OP in this post is so excited about ZKE at all, to be honest. Just upload already encrypted files to onedrive, problem solved. But in theory there shouldn't be any keys to hand over, was my only point.

Sorry I thought you were OP in your original response, and then realised after I replied!

actually have no encryption at all.

That's why they call it zero knowledge..

But why does the cloud provider need to offer the encryption?

What's stopping me from uploading encrypted files to Dropbox/OneDrive/GDrive?

I don't see what these encrypted cloud storage hosts are offering, apart from maybe apps that do the encryption and uploading for you, in which case it isn't really zero knowledge as their app has access to your keys. Yeah, the cloud may not get to see them, but all it takes is a minor code change to fix that…
