Love these, hope amazon price matches.

    • Amazon doesn't seem to sell any (only 3rd party sellers on amazon).

    • Me too, great for nights when you don’t feel like cooking. Better than any of the Kan Tong or Chicken Tonights.

It’s because these are actually made in the countries which they represent, like India.

As an Indonesian, imo their Indonesian Rendang is authentic and taste similar to what we have in Indonesia. Add a few more chilies if you like it hot.

    • what meat would u cook with it? would u use the pressure cooker?

      • +2

Normally beef I think but I’ll let the Indonesian person give you the true answer 🙂

Oh and your second question - I think you could to make the meat tender and falling apart. In Indonesia they cook the meat for hours or longer and that is how the dry rendang sauce is done. The meat is then very tender.

These packets are not spicy though which is the opposite of actual rendang. I remember reading that traditionally rendang was a way to preserve and store meat at room temperature for days, due to all the chilies in it.

        • Woah, you have a lot of knowledge of this dish! But to be honest, apart from that reason, most food in small restaurants in Indonesia will be served at room temperature because we don't really care about food safety and hot boxes/food bars are expensive. 😅

      • As General Skunk mentioned, usually I use beef, sometimes chicken if I don't feel like eating red meat. To be specific, I find the chuck part is the most perfect cut for rendang. If you have a pressure cooker, that would really help to reduce the cooking time. I don't have it so I usually cook my beef for about 3-4 hours on low heat to make it tender.

  • these are pretty good value imho… would cost much more to make the sauces and buy spices individually not even taking into account the time you need as well.

if you happen to be in Aldi then look out for their south african curry sauce pouches.
it was a special buy a few weeks ago. 3 different flavours.
very nice (though haven't tried the mushroom sauce)

  • Opened this deal immediately when I saw it and the 2 biryani varieties which I really wanted (Delhi and Hyderabadi) are not included :(

  • We use Rustic Rogan Josh to prepare beef, it is awsome

  • Is any of them suitable for vegetarians?

    • +2

All of the sauces themselves are vegetarian friendly, no meat in any of them. Most will recommend adding meat, but i'm sure they could all be made by adding vegetables instead, i am only an occasional meat eater myself and so i might just add potatoes/peas/capsicum/mushroom/onion/etc when making some of these.

  • Rustic Rogan FTW
