  • It's a pretty good deal, as if you were to do it yourself petrol would cost you around $200 for the weekend alone.* If you are planning to ski/snowboard and don't have your own equipment, then you obviously need to hire it, that's why they have included it in the deal. However, by the sounds of it, you have never skied a day in your life and weren't planning on it. So you can ignore that part. Something to note also:

    Blackout dates apply: 19 July - 26 August 2012
Lift passes are not included for ski resorts (but you aren't planning on skiing?)

The blackout dates are over the main ski period, which means you can only use the voucher when the snow is of lesser quality.** But again, you ain't skiing?.

    *From experience driving a V6 3.8L Commodore
** Dependent on this years snowfalls, we may get an early dumping of snow making the early season just as good.

    • Doh, Im from Bendigo ( Vic ), so pretty much the coach thing is useless for me. Yes im planning to skiiiing. So the deal no good then ? if i want to ski ?

      • You may not be able to do this if you self drive. Make sure you determine whether you can before you buy. I'd also call the company and try to book it before you buy. The dates you can book will be limited more than a normal offer. I don't know anything about skiing, but I would reckon try to get the weekend just before or just after the blackout period.

  • I have been on 2 of these ski 'tours' with this company a few years back. Needless to say I am not going back again.

This tour is a bit of a party tour, and some of the guides are usually more there for this, and the free skiing/snowboarding perks they get. It is targeted towards a uni crowd to be fair.

They are one of the few tours that go to Thredbo or Perisher, and they are cheap. But being shoved in a room of 8 that was only meant for 6 (switched mid trip) was not cool!

You can hire ski clothes through them as well (ie ski pants + ski jacket) if you don't have any.

"Two days ski or snowboard hire" means that either ski hire or snowboard hire is included in the price, whichever you choose.

  • The poor employee that's gonna be dealing with these confused customers!

  • The company itself might be listed on trip advisor. If you check trip advisor, you may find other operators that cost about the same (since you do not need the coach part….) but that are more flexible with dates, etc.

  • Maybe you can ask advice in the travel forum. You wouldn't be discussing the deal in so far as being a group buy deal.

If you just say. "here's this deal….." what do you guys think, you might get some specialist advice you would not get here.

  • Yeah dealt with Ozsnow Adventues before. Be warned, they lost their liquor licence a couple of years ago due to irresponsible service of alcohol. As mentioned it's aimed at the uni crowd and is designed to be a big party. The 'hosts' are nice enough but they're clearly there just for the free accomodation and skiing.

The breakfast (and I use this term lightly) is so bad I bought breakfast when I got to the ski fields. No joke the 'toast' is prepurchased as toast. It's basically cheap bread that has been scorched by a blow torch. The rest of the food is of similar quality.

The rooms are 2 star at best with up to 8 strangers sharing a room so I wouldn't take any valuables. The 'resort' is pretty much the furthest hotel outside of Jindabyne and it takes a good hour to actually get to the ski fields in the morning.

The entire thing made me feel like I was on a school camp.

I wont be doing it again.

  • Here is a trip from ouffer.

    http://getaways.ouffer.com/3-nights-king-or-twin-or-triple-r…

It is $375 for 3 nights, but you need to have 2 or three people. I think it includes all meals and is allegedly a ski in - ski out hotel. Whatever that means

    • The River Inn is located next to the gunbarrel chairlift at Thredbo, and you can literally ski out of your accommodation onto the snow fields. It is however run by the same people that run the Snowy Valley Resort from the above deal :(

      • But it looks like you get your own room, etc. So while it could be crap, it is probably less crap than the scoopon option.

I think OP should go to trip advisor and look at the various parties involved.

        • Yeah I agree it will be less crap than the scoopon option. But I am biased because I have had a bad experience with this company and don't wish to support the management.

  • Thank you very much for all your reply.
@voteoften where is the travel forum you talking about, can i have the link?

You can search for very nearly every tourist related thing in th eworld and get other people's opinions.

In your case, you can enter the name of the ski area you want to go to, and they will have categories of things you can look at, so you might be able to find a tour operator who suits you better. Or you might read that other people who have taken this tour liked it because of A, b & C, but that D really pissed them off.

You'll find out about restaurants, attractions, etc, in the area and also what other people thought of them.

Be leary of any excessively positive reviews. Be slightly less wary of excessively negative reviews.

    • Thank you so much.
