I intend to buy a rather bulky item on eBay, the seller is interstate and the item is pick up only.
Is there a courier that picks up the item on my behalf and delivers it to me? Does Aus post have such service?
Thanks

That's what I intend to do. I haven't bought the item yet. The seller is happy for me to arrange transport, but I don't know which transport companies do pick-ups, if any?
Don't think Auspost does it (except large corporate accounts),actually the Startrack arm probably does, but pretty much every courier does but some you'll need to have an account for eg Fedex. The other issue you'll likely run into is the item will need to be packed ready to go. There are those out there that will also pack but price is going to be getting well up there.
How big is the item?
There’s Allied Express, Mainfreight, Northline and whole heap of other road freight companies.
It's a 2nd hand air-conditioner. weight around 9 kg. dimensions 60x50x30
Couriers Please will do that. Can make the single booking online, send to seller to stick on the box.
How much would it cost locally? Unless the price is really good, shipping a 9kg air-conditioner across the country doesn't see to be great value.
What if you paid the seller extra to pack and ship the item? If they use Sendle, they can send a 25kg and 100L package for $32.20. A box and packing materials would be maybe $20? Add maybe another $30 to $40 for their troubles, so around $95 for them to ship it. Sendle will pick up from their premises as well so this might work out cheaper than having a courier pack it and pick it up.
You can try pack and send (https://www.packsend.com.au/) to see if they can go to the seller's premises to pack and pick it up. I've used them in the past to ship an item via one of the stores and the service is pretty good. It's a bit on the pricier side though.
I tried to organise something similar when I was stationed on an oil rig, but did not have any luck for some reason..
You would think (with the price of oil) you would suddenly have a lot of new friends.
I've used pack & send before for this, no dramas.
I've used interparcel which picked up the item and was by far the cheapest in the past
I've used Pack & Send for bulky ebay purchases.
arrange transport before settling the deal!
