I’ve tried the other apps and this seems the most intuitive for my kids. And seems to work perfectly on the iPad. Other apps seem free and then have some predatory pricing after a free week.

This subscription also allows four users - so you could share your subscription like people do don’t with their Netflix

Enjoy

Think twice about this… Get your small kid used to dopamine hits from playing online games.

Did this with my eldest who is now 16, am not going to do it again with my little fella.
BTW oldest is really good at reading and gaming. Not so socially

I’m not an expert but I think there’s more to parenting than just this app

      Interesting take.

    • Good point regarding the endorphin feedback trap. Cheers for the insight.

Found this very useful for our little one in the first two years of primary

      Same. Great app. And Australian.

      • Garbage on Windows. Clearly very little effort has gone into coding the browser version. The touches are so unresponsive they confuse young kids when the app doesn't respond.

It's ok on android. But i don't want to buy a tablet let alone an android one.

        • I agree with this. Kids have been using it for a few years on Windows, Android tablets, and iPads. It is still glitchy at times on the iPads, but more often had glitches on Android and even more often on Windows.

        • Funny, I found the reverse. Thought the android app wasn't great and the browser pc one was a little better. Interface either way wasn't great.

I feel like I have to jump in about this one too. I had a subscription for perhaps two years. At a certain point/world, you get pushed to do other courses, which isn't a bad thing in itself but my kids got bored at that point and instead just wanted the unlocks and games on it.

When I first found the term ABC is licenced by ABC for commercial use, but otherwise no connection i felt that was a bit disingenuous.

I used it on the ipad, which was okay. The parents stuff is all on a Web interface that is admittedly a bit clunky.

    It's normally $109 - not 40% off by a long shot

Was just about to post the same, only a $10 saving lol Better than nothing, but it's not as good a deal as it sounds

      • Sounds like their PR person needs to do Mathseeds. Either that, or the maths course isn't very good.

    • I think this is a 40% discount for a combined subscription of both Reading Eggs and Mathseeds. I use both these programs for my 3 kids and found it really useful.

Many schools offer this. Make sure your child doesn’t have access to it

  • Fwiw, I called them and got it for $89.99 back in March (for my 3yo).

A good strategy is to sign up for a free trial, I was then emailed constantly with offers, so you get to know their pricing.

Also my kids get this as part of their schooling (primary school).

  • How does this compare to IXL?

Not sure what school ages Reading Eggs and Math Seeds can target?

  • pre primary (public) school gives us a subscription to this for nothing?

    • +2

Is it a statement or a question?

  • We got free access code from pre-primary (WA public school)

  • Both of my kids did this and its good but the app is an accompaniment to the books, which you can buy in packs from Officeworks.

Don't get this and expect your kids to teach themselves, that's not how it works. Get the books and cards, use them and the app helps reinforce it.

  • If you have primary aged kids ask their teacher if they use this and you won’t need to pay for it.

If your 3 year old has/uses an iPad you’re doing parenting wrong

Should also try Khan Kids (for 3-8 yo) which I personally find is better at explaining concepts (also completely free) prior to getting them doing the tasks/games. Khan kids also mixes language and maths. Only thing is Khan kids is more inline with American education system as opposed to reading eggs aligned to ours.

There is also Khan academy for older kids which is effectively like a home teaching tool with videos explaining concepts etc, and covers science, maths, language, etc.

    • Good to know. Thanks!
