Wireless Broadband Dongle Modem or Cellular Tablet

Trying to set mother in law up with simple messaging device:
was going to go with galaxy tab wifi plus a wireless dongle, but seems like the ones that are easily available are prepaid and locked to telstra

Is there a simple dongle I can stick say a Belong data sim in? Or should I just get a cellular iPad or galaxy tab?

    Get a cellular tablet. One less thing you'll have to troubleshoot if something goes awry

      And to top this off get an iPad with applecare. Nothing better than fobbing your family off to the AppleStore "genius bar" it's fantastic. You couldn't pay me enough to be IT support for my MIL.

    I'm sure there are plenty of Galaxy A8 tabs for sale around here cough
