  • What's the difference between your product and something like FijiKava? Thanks

    • +5

A few things - good question.

Ours is from Vanuatu which means it will be different strength and taste (see more on that below).

Secondly, FijiKava is a large ASX listed company that mainly provides Kava as a vitamin/supplement.
      Which means a few things

      1. They have higher costs, employees, etc.
      2. Generally speaking some would say theirs is weaker / has a different feeling.

Ours is purchased directly from farmers on island of Pentecost in Vanuatu - which we spent ages finding. They have really high strength Kava which we import bare bones cost - even just using the packaging they have over there.

So there are very few costs getting it here, so we can offer the cheapest kava that is still premium / high strength. It also goes to supporting the actual farmer as opposed to cash into shareholders pockets.

Ultimately it's direct from the farmer & high strength, as opposed to something you would find in Chemist warehouse (or coles) like Fiji Kava

Just wanted to correct you on something.
As a recently investor in Fiji Kava and understanding the product and their financials, they are by no means a "large" company.
Listed - yes, however, they are barely a microcap, hence my investment with their ranging into Coles stores and presence in the US (hopefully it takes off, only a small investment so just pocket change invested).

Additionally, they support local farmers tremendously and ensure QC in Fiji as opposed to in AU before it is imported here to provided further job opportunities in Fiji (also does make it cheaper than doing QC here).

Lastly, it is a loss making company, they do not make a profit so shareholders are NOT getting anything in the foreseeable future and will not be for a while. High risk, high reward. They even had to issue convertible notes / options in the current market to a PE firm because they needed cash. I would have thought you would have done that level of research before making statements such as shareholders pockets are being filled, lol.

        Product wise - I can't compare as I haven't tried yours yet.

        • +1

          Fair enough and good comment.

I should clarify shareholders' pockets being filled was more of just a general/throwaway statement about how that is something publically traded companies ultimately have a goal of doing. Not to say that is what that particular company mentioned does. They still have a great product and are a good company.

We're just different, as is the next importer and the one after. I also couldn't be sure if vitamin/supplement is their main sales - I just know that vitamins / supplements were legal to import previously, but noble kava powder wasn't P(until Dec 21') and their vitamins/supplements were widely available in stores.

Just trying to get across that now kava is legal for import you can get really good access to high strength kava with less/no middle men than some other options. There's more competition now than there has been in the past.

  • No PayPal? I'm good, thanks.

Interested in trying but good lord that is expensive

    • -1

Fair enough - thing is it's good to have with mates so worth going in on with a few. We try to be pretty much the cheapest that still has really strong stuff so if you try for the first time you get the nice relaxed cosy feeling it's supposed to give you.

500g will also last you a long time. Should get 16 litres out of it which would be like 20-30 sessions if you wanted or less if shared with others etc. etc.

      • +4

        30 sessions from 500g… Ambitious!!

Can't believe how expensive this is. Going rate on Vanuatu or Fiji is $5 - $10 for 500g (max). Not talking about the Nambawan stuff (which I'm sure is 90% lawn clippings for tourists).

Also, I've never had problems bringing some back through customs (declared). Was it just illegal to resell? Never knew it was illegal.

To get the real experience, I suggest not washing your hands after taking a dump. Had some savage cryptosporidium situations on the Kava with the locals.

Good product for this modern world though I recon.. anxiety and stress is through the roof and everyone needs to chill. Best of luck with the company.

          Username checks out

  • out of curiosity I just read a bit, my question is why would anyone want to use kava?!

    • +3

It makes you feel super relaxed and chilled! Also makes it so easy to fall asleep

    • Similar question is: Why would anyone use alcohol?

  • Calming…walk around any Pacific island at 5pm and you will struggle to find a single F' given anywhere

Then get around anywhere in Australia at 5pm… Slight difference.

    • Absolutely - they're all max relaxed on Kava haha

  • “Problems from long-term use of kava

In the long term, kava use can cause a wide range of problems including:

    breathing difficulties
visual changes, including sensitivity to light (photophobia)
slight alterations to blood cells, including white and red blood cells, and platelets
    liver damage
    compromised immune function
    kidney damage
contact dermatitis – causing scaly, flaky rash on the skin
appetite loss, leading to malnutrition and weight loss
    loss of drive and motivation
worsened symptoms of pre-existing mental illnesses such as schizophrenia.”

Yes if you have Kava every day for months and abuse it - it has negative health consequences.

    • +2

      You drink alcohol?

      • Thought the same. Violence and aggression including DV isn’t listed there, but it would with alcohol.

        • +1

It's a great alternative. Also makes you more social by lowering social anxiety generally.

Honestly, if you can get over the taste (some people actually like it) - it's pretty awesome stuff.

I'll be honest I don't love the taste of any kava, and only drink it on occasion but it's a good alternative to having all your mates over and drinking. Just pop a bowl of kava out and watch harry potter 2 or something. Maybe even Jurrasic Park haha.

    • A lot of what science says is 'bad' about kava was taken from American experiments based on the leaf product, not the root product, so you need to check the source of the 'kava = bad' science and see if they are testing the right part. I doubt ground tobacco root causes lung cancer? Okay over simplification comparison, but still. Just make sure it's not big pharma funded.

  • You are around the corner, can I pickup to save paying for Freight?

Just curious. How is this different to marijuana?

    • +1

      This is legal.

      • are the effects similar?

        • +1

No, this relaxes the nervous system directly.

  • Prices are very high. Kava is currently selling at $90 per 1 kg.

    • +1

You can get kava at $90 per kilo that's pretty much the cheapest/nastiest stuff around - but there are different grades & quality which is important to note.

If it's $90/kg it's probably cut with other parts of the kava plant, so you end up drinking a lot of muck that doesn't taste great and not much actual Kava root. The result is it has low "Kavalactones" % which is the active ingredient & also means it will taste worse.

We had the option to import cheaper cut stuff, and sell at that price, but don't see the point if customers will just taste the bitter flavour and not get the feeling. Still get messages heaps of exporters daily, offering this kind of 'cheaper' kava. We wouldn't get repeat customers though as they'd just not like it & not feel much. Probably get bad reviews too.

It is a shame though as lots of people will buy 1kg at the cheapest rate possible, and not feel much, so never have it again thus making the industry smaller really.

  • 20% off $210 for the 2 pack should be $168 not $172.87 as it is at check out. Not hate'n, just say'n.
