Rarely see the 600ohm version on sale, good price from a good retailer with good returns policy. I was a bit late to post, ends today.

Excellent price! It is almost match the T1 Gen 2 for 4x less. Best match with OTL headphone amps.
Had this and the T1 gen 1. Close enough imo, less sibilance on the T1 and less piercing vocals. Would've returned the T1 but bought it overseas
Had one myself years ago from Amazon Germany, geat headset. I have the AKG K812 too which is much more expensive, but I often find myself reaching for the DT880. Well it doesn't sound the same as the K812, maybe less spacious, less extension to the lower end etc, but it holds its own and it is a lot more comfortable to wear for a longer period of time. Highly recommended if you have a good amp.
I auditioned these a long time ago and I have to say that amongst the other midrange DT series, these are the best ones.
do you need amp for this one?
Definitely.
Yes, this one is arguably purpose built for tube amps.
There's a good argument to just get the HD 560S instead at this price point, but if you're seeking imaging precision for gaming, the K612 or K702 would still be less difficult to drive than this.
Also, tubes amps can varied greatly and not all tube amps paired well with this headphone.
These versus K712?
K712 aren't worth the extra money over the K612. Are you seeking diffuse field, harman neutral without the bass shelf?
What's your use case? Movies/music/games… competitive gaming?
K712 follow the Harman target and are a bit more portable if that matters for your use case. However, the K712 build quality is hilariously bad. Beyers are built like tanks and almost all parts are user replaceable. The headband on the K712 will inevitably fail and you'll have to swap the earpads out much more often since the pleather will flake off quite easily with use.
Fantastic cans. Great sound, very comfortable.
These headphones are ancient history at this point
how
If your goal is imaging and soundstage, the AKG K612 are better tuned. If your goal is good mids, the Sennheiser HD 560S has you covered with better bass and treble extension with a less exacting treble. If your goal is detail and slam, the HIFIMAN HE400SE are a benchmark at the price point.
We've seen a really good refresh at entry-level mid-fi in the last 2-3 years, instead of dealing with 10 year old headphones (or 35 year old, in this case). They were a marvel for the time, but electronics have changed, and amp transparency and linearity has changed, and these were always headphones meant for checking for hiss and bass bloom in a studio.
And that overall advancement isn't going to slow down, it's going to accelerate due to renewed interest in open back headphones, as well as ANC and TWS driving closed backs and IEMs respectively.
yeah but they're built like a tank and the most comfortable headphones i've ever owned. I'm used to shit breaking after 1-2 years whilst these are perfect after 4 years.
They’re from like 2006
Need a lot of juice to power these things
Actually they use electricity.
