LG Ultrafine Ergo 32UN88A 4K UHD IPS Monitor 31.5 Inch 3840 x 2160 IPS Display, DCI-P3 95%, HDR10, USB Type-C, Ergonomic Stand, AMD Freesync, White

This deal is similar to a recent one for the 'Black' LG 32UN880-B (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/698390), but a little bit cheaper if you don't mind the White colouring. It may not be the best specced monitor, but a competitive price if you're prioritising a monitor with an out of the box mount.

This deal is also currently matched at Officeworks (https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lg-ultrafi…), but chosen to post the Amazon deal as Amazon gift vouchers are more readily available if you want to bump off a few extra dollars, or have any existing Amazon Gift Card balance to use.

I declined a laptop to claim my gaming rig.
I don't even own a cheap LG, I went even cheaper and got 2 kogan ultrawides

Is this “not the best specked monitor” for gaming purposes or how about home office and photo editing? I’ve been waiting on a 32” 4k IPS for a while and haven’t seen one at this price point before.

    • +2

As per YouTube reviews, this monitor is good for photo/ video editing. Only issue is that this monitor does not have a 'true' HDR panel.

      • +3

There really isn’t any ‘true’ HDR IPS period. It’s either miniled(apple, asus and select few others-all stupid expensive), quantum dot VA (basically a Samsung TV, terrible view angles) or OLED.

You won’t get anything over VESA600 on ips, which in itself isn’t really considered Hdr.

    • +1

Specs are good for a USBC compatible monitor at this price range. Everything is relative and You’ll find you are always spending more for less when USBC is a prerequisite for your next monitor. If PD is more important to you for a clean 1 cable setup, this is a great choice. There is a cheaper LG 27” USBC that I use at home which is older but still pretty decent. I have a 2021 16” MBP and though it’s way less power than I need, considering the ~20% of the time I’m away from my desk at work, I never run out of juice through the day.

I use this monitor for graphic design and use my 16” MBP screen for colour sensitive shit.

    • +2

I got about 93% DCI-P3 and 90% Adobe argb with my X1 display pro colorimeter. Not sure if panels have changed but it’s ok for a 4K screen.
Also HDR isn’t really popular in photography, editing in HDR mode is silly and will not reflect how others see the image in sRGB or affect how your printers will print. It’s a quick-way to make environments unsettling rather than realistic

  • Ordered a 32" Dell Ultrasharp but going to tell Dell to shove it. This looks to be an ok alternative, but does this not come with a regular stand?

    • No

      • +1

Ok thanks, back to the drawing board.

        • The ergo stands have very good reach, if you’re concerned about the depth of your desk.

          • @Bedgrub: I have shelves and cupboard built in to the desk above where the monitor goes, so unfortunately only a traditional stand would work.

        • +1

Yeah that stand sucks, I want to vesa mount

    • I got one of those to my door for 900 through the outlet 2 weeks ago. Very happy with it.

    • U3223QE? I would keep that.

      • It's pretty nice

      • I would to if Dell could deliver it after taking my cash, but they are saying they can't deliver it for 3 months. I just waited 2 months for them to deliver the 12900k system, so waiting 5 months for a full computer is a bit much.

  • +1

    what is its refresh rate?

When is LG going to give us Oled?

    • it exists, it's just very expensive.

  • Does it mean the bezel and the arm will be white in Color or which part of it?

  • Anyone know difference with LG 32UN880-B?

    • +1

No Difference, just the colour of back panel is different

      • There has to be something else as the price difference is a bit of a leap

        • i was wondering this too

  • Does this have google assistant speakers?

    • No

  • -1

It isn't worth it in my opinion.
Last weekend I got an Acer Ultra WQHD 34" VA panel, Curved 1440p 100Hz HDMI/144Hz via DP for $600-ish at Harvey Norman. I've been using curved monitor for 2y, I'm not going back to flat screen ever.

Sure, this LG is IPS panel which is somewhat superior than VA panels in some aspects, 4k, but 60Hz???
If you are buying this for gaming or video editing that requires that extra fps, you are toasted.

For the matter, I have a TV 65" QLED 4K HDR, sure 4K is gorgeous asf(5y later still gorgeous), but 1440p isn't much far behind.
Playing Xbox Series X at 1440p/120Hz is gold.

    • +7

Don't compare IPS vs VA and curved vs Bob curved.

      These are totally different products.

Believe it or not, some of us on ozb want nice desktop use and business use displays.

If you want gaming toys, knock yourself out and go for it! I have no interest in VA it curved OR nasty looking "gaming" gear.

      • "non" curved, even.

      • +2

Got a 43 inch Auros VA panel for work. 1000nits, stupid colour and all. Looked terrible from up close + excel and outlook just brings out VA's worst sides.

Payed $900+ and returned it in a week even taking 10% restocking fee. VA is only good for TV's that you sit far away and right in front of. Never again…

      • This is the most BS I've ever read in my life.
So you are saying a VA display cannot be used for office which I do working from home???

Sure Einstein, have fun with your 4K display :)

        • Oh no, it'll work, it'll just look like ugly trash. That's why I don't use it. That's why the expensive ones, are IPS.

    • Out of curiosity, what's wrong with the flat screen?

I've only used max 24" flat screens and know nothing about monitors, but is it a ultra wide screen thing or is curved the way to go now days?

    • +2

Curved va ultrawides are a dime a dozen. 4k 32" ips monitors arent.

  • This or 32ud99? Which is better?

    • +1

I mean on spec sheet, of course the UD99, just for the brightness alone, but you can't get that no where near this price let alone a ergo arm with it…

If you know one, let us all know…

  • Thanks, OP! Just ordered one. This monitor ticks all the boxes for me: 32", 4K, IPS panel and a good quality monitor arm. Don't really need the USB-C as I will be using a separate USB-C docking station to support dual monitors. I was initially looking at the Dell 32 Curved 4K UHD monitor S3221QS and the MSA20 monitor arm but am more than happy to pay $150 more to have the IPS panel!

    • You've made the right choice. I have a S3221QS solely for productivity use. The extra real estate compared to a 27" is fantastic although I wish I spent the extra on an IPS. Bad viewing angles, even noticeable from a normal position, and poor colours.

  • Can anyone comment if this price is worth for the panel quality? I can't find much info. Gaming is secondary for me and 60hz never really bothered me. Also Thanks OP, ordered one.

  • +1

I’m keen on this monitor but having never seen a 32” 4K monitor, is text going to be too small to have no scaling at this size? If so, assuming doing the required scaling on macOS, will I end up with much difference in vertical height of content compared to native resolution 1440p 27”?

    • 4k on my 55" already has small text lol.

    • I found this site:
      http://pxcalc.com/

It lets you work out the DPI and through that, assumingI did it right, I learnt that you’d be looking at needing a 41” monitor in 4K to have similar DPI to a 27” with 1440p, so at 32” you’d need roughly 25% scaling and that would negate much of the benefit for vertical real estate.

  • but chosen to post the Amazon deal as Amazon gift vouchers are more readily available if you want to bump off a few extra dollars

What are some options for this?

    • I would suggest referring to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards which is a great wiki reference.

In short, some portals will allow you to to buy Amazon vouchers at discount, which you can then add to your gift card balance as an alternate payment method upon checkout.

So for example, if you had access to HCF/Lumo Rewards/Australian Unity Wellplan, you should be able to buy $700 worth of Amazon vouchers for $665 with the 5% discount. Add the cards to your Amazon balance so you're effectively paying $662.15.
