Trek 100 Men's Trekking Down Jacket for $75 (was $149) @ Decathlon

180

It's not a Macpac and I'm not sure of the quality but Decathlon is normally decent quality and the down jacket is half price at the moment. Might be good for the impending cold weather. Lots of colours and sizes currently available.

Women's variety also on sale. https://decathlon.com.au/products/trek-100-womens-down-jacke…?

Is it me or is that an ikea bag for a jacket

    • The black variety looks a bit less like an IKEA bag.

They are arguably better than a Macpac in many ways… 800 CUIN is 800fp, Macpac is only 600fp so you are getting much loftier down here. Warmth to weight will be way better (making this great for hiking).

seconded el_cheapo - better than the macpac - 800fp down (better warmth for weight), which is great for hiking.
similar in warmth to the macpac uber light jacket imo (but will be lighter due to the better down). Remembering that while the warmth to weight is amazing, there are jackets with more absolute warmth out there.

    • Which one is the best option in your opinion?

Best down jacket in existence or best of Macpac vs Decathlon? The former is a big question haha.

I own more puffys than I care to admit, but use my Decathlon the most by far. It's light, warm and doesn't cost the earth so if I snag it hiking or bunt it with an ember etc. I am not heartbroken.

u/ormagon_89 on reddit has ranked a bunch of jackets on warmth, weight, and cost. This is from the ultralight hiking subreddit so low weight is a high priority, for pretty much every other use case weight is less important. Ultralight gear also often sacrifices durability, using thinner fabric, so that's worth keeping in mind.

The Trek 100 rates 25th overall and first in warmth per $. The Macpac uberlight rates 52nd overall. The Macpac Halo is not an ultalight jacket so not included.

      • depends entirely on your use case, temps, etc. This jacket is my fav to go multiday hiking because it's so light. But being a Queenslander who can't take temps below 20C, I like a warmer jacket for casual use when warmth-to-weight and weight doesn't matter (and I'm not exerting myself while wearing it) - don't particularly care about the brand of jacket or quality of the down or even particularly about the jacket being down (vs synthetic fill) so long as it's warm.

  • I bought their base layers trek 100 mens and I must say they are super warm and they were only $10 on sale.

A base layer, any fleece and a macpac or aldi down jacket and I am toasting out in the cold.

Love this jacket! Bought one recently and was amazed by its warmth. I couldn't believe something so light could be so warm. Wore it during the windy cold blast we had in Sydney a few days ago and was fine. Wish it had a hood though, or that the hooded version comes in more colours…

ive wore this probably every day for over a year. its so good, i just love how light it is. 100% would recommend and im probably going to buy a second for when i inevitably destroy mine

  • The size guide converts cm and inches to US and Euro sizes, but i can't see where it says which country's sizing the jackets use.
    I'm 103cm chest (181cm, 80kg). Does that convert to M, L or XL?

    • Theres a size chart on the website mate.

    • I'm asking because the size guide on the web site says that I'm at the top of an EU size L or a US size M. However, i can't see where it says whether these jackets use EU or US sizes?

Go at least a size up when ordering. I usually am a 'small' medium. Needed a large for this

Pretty experienced reviewer (Dan Becker) rates this jacket very highly - https://youtu.be/b8Y7SVWH7Kg.

  • Thanks to YouTube recommendations from watching the other video another experienced reviewer (Justin Outdoors)'s very high recommendation https://youtu.be/sXiFWXFubk4

  • Recommend the jacket. Great value for the price. 👍🏻

  • Is the delivery pretty steep for anyone else? Ordering to ADL and costing $56.83 in shipping…
