Blue Mountains weather: 5~8 degrees tomorrow, with a bit of wind up to 10KM/H.

Better don your best Macpac Halo jackets.

I feel personally attacked having one of these hanging on the chair i'm currently sitting on.

      • +12

Nah nah no need to feel attacked. If you spent more than $99 on it however…!

        • +1

I love mine. So good for hockey game. Haven't tried it in the rain, and don't plane to

  • +13

Wish more farm do that instead of throwing away good food. Good opportunity to up sell, food, drinks, events etc..

    • +32

Might be harder in some environments where having hundreds of people trampling through your farm could do more harm than good. Farmers would probably prefer it, but there isn't anything quite as stupid as a group of people.

      • +7

Lots of farms also aren't idiot proof. You'll get that one Karen that goes out, hurts themselves, and sues the farm ¬¬

      • -8

        like covid hysteria stupid?

    • Round up some local bands to play, sell some scrumpy.
Better still, serve a Winter Warmer snakebite and black.

    • +2

Unfortunately people also damage the plants which reduces the next harvest so letting people in to pick their own fruit isn't always the best thing for the farm.

How do you like them apples?
A lot cos they are free.

  • This has been on the RED (Little Red Book) for a while. It will definitely be more crowded than Vivid Sydney.

    • Have you been to VIVID yet? How crowded was it? Keen to go but don’t love being herded like sheep all night

      • Vivid is extremely crowded, especially on the weekends. Would recommend going on a weeknight at 6pm for the least crowds.

        • +1

Nah. Weeknight from 9 or 10pm.

    • Is this RED really a thing? Am intrigued.

      • Yup. It's like a very popular social media app among overseas Chinese users, especially influencers and KOLs.

        • what are KOLs?

          • @chakel: Key Opinion Leaders

@Matt P: All opinions are equal but some opinions are more equal than others ;)

They would be too far gone and have that freaky fermented smell/taste. If they were any good they would be off loaded to a juicer. Pink Lady's should have been harvested several weeks ago. Smells like an ad to get people there for the shop.

    • +5

When life gives you fermented apples, make cider?

    • +1

It also means they don't have to pick them or have rotten apples on the ground later. Free labour.

    • Depends on where you grow them. Woodbridge list them as June-July, mine at home are good from late April through end of May. Of course, supermarkets and producers will keep apples in cold storage all year.

    • Don't worry about that mate. We just need some good reasons for a picnic.

    • +1

This guy is spot on, for places like blue Mountain these apples are way pass its prime this time of the year so have realistic expectation and don't blame anyone if you can manage rotten apple from the farm.

      • Apples are still crisp and delicious despite being a bit spotty. Taste is not impacted at all.

  • Thanks OP. Will see some of the OZBargainers tomorrow. Stay warm and be cool!

Will I learn the difference between apple cider and apple juice? And get to see lots of beautiful foilage?

  • Is it worth the 10 hour drive?

    • Are you coming from Melbourne?

I'm imagining how much apple jam, pies and syrups I could make with this. Amazing.

Just saw an update on their FB page from 3 mins ago (approx 10:50am):

PLEASE READ -NOT MANY APPLES LEFT!
Due to an absolutely overwhelming number of people we are almost out of apples!
We will still have apples in our shop for the rest of the day. Thankyou!!!

      • Too many tigharses lol

      • Ha wow!!!

This was chaos. We went to the local market and some of them seemed annoyed, then they were selling out of everything and suddenly happy about it.

Shields orchard were doing granny Smiths for $2kg and any red apples $1kg pick your own.. judging by how busy they were getting we weren't the only ones that decided it wasn't worth the hassle for free apples and to try somewhere else
