Kayo on Firestick 4K Max

Anyone got any helpful tips to Sideloading Kayo on a firestick 4k Max?

Edit: Thanks to those who helped out. Really appreciate it

Here is what worked for me using an adroid phone:
- Download the most recent 'KayoSports' APK file on mega.nz website (thanks to @Whatisthatvelvet for the link)
- Download 'Easy Fire Tools' on your Android device via the Play Store and follow the steps for the Android device on firesticktricks website
- Once linked and set up you should be able to link the APK files from the 'Easy Fire Tools' app to your FireStick. Many loaded apks on your Android device should link to your firestick without having to use a custom apk but Kayo didn't open for me.

  • I have it working fine on my Firestick 4K Max, did you download the right apk that is suitable for the CPU of the firestick? I believe the Android TV version will not work. Try this site: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/streamotion-pty-ltd/kayo-sport….

    • Could you get a working icon? Mine is just the broken grey one.

      • no icon on mine either

        • Fixing it seems long and complicated. Unless I sideload more apps I guess I can put up with it.

          • @ozbs25: Yeah to me it isn't worth it, it is the only sideloaded app I have installed.

    • 1st time I tried through that link it was saying not supported. Turned it off and on and it downloaded and 'installed' though when going to apps there is a grey icon (I've seen that seems normal) with no caption. When opening it, it seems to try to open then immediately closes with no warning or info. Seems I'm having a bit of bad luck with it.

Maybe try a full factory reset and see if that helps.

        • I'll give it a crack. Cheers for the help mate.

I had that problem then tried getting the apk from a different site and it worked. Not sure what was wrong. Maybe bad download, wrong version? Can't remember which site I went to first but then went to apkgk and it worked.

        • I haven't tried your link just yet. I'll have to give it a go. I have chromecast as well so after giving up just been using that.

I got it working getting the apk from here:

    https://apkgk.com/au.com.kayosports

Just warning you though, while it does work, I don't know if I sideloaded Russian/Chinese spyware/backdoors to go with it. I don't know anything about sideloading apks. You may not get the latest version although it says version 1.3.15. You may just get 1.3.14. It was a little weird for me. I think I got both versions, one on one firestick, one on the other. I couldn't get a working icon on the firestick either. It's one of those broken grey ones.

I used this by stojo and works well. Comes with icon too

    • Thanks, it downloaded and opened fine but wanted to update to use it so wouldn't work :( here I was thinking it would be a 5min job.

Yeah mine did the same thing yesterday. So I just grabbed the latest Kayo apk from the mega link below. No Homescreen icon though.

        https://mega.nz/folder/PaJQELqY#dg3wVzOFIybj6an5Yeq7PA

        • Awesome, I'll give it a crack when I get home. Cheers!

        • @Whatisthatvelvet thanks for the link. I tried doing it on the firestick through the downloader app using a bitly link but the site wouldn't let me scroll to download the Apk on the firestick. Ended up using this Android app 'Easy Fire Tools' which I found in this article which I connected via WiFi and you can pick and choose apps from your device or download a APK in your browser and link it via the app. You are probably more tech savvy than me but it think the app will be handy for future updates if wanting to avoid doing it directly through the firestick or PC.

  • Thanks for this guide!

    • No problem, I had a lot of trouble trying to find something that worked. Not sure if the 4k max is harder than others but seems like it might have been made a little more restricted.

      • It worked like a charm on my fire cube

  • A bit late to the thread, but after unsuccessfully trying some side loading, I ended up just using the Silk browser (comes up as simply "internet" on some Firesticks), went to the kayo www page, and bookmarked mykayo once logged in. A bit tedious to for first login but after that, worked well for me. The third answer in this link explains all steps https://au.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D54P00008D6SJwSAN/can…

    • Thanks for this. So easy.

I have put on quite a few fire sticks
Get the downloader app from appstore allow any permissoons.
In the url file type in 751883 and press go .
When it says something about unknown sources follow the instructions and allow it and come back to downloader and install the kayo app .and it works perfectly normal

      161897 for latest 1.3.16 release

      • Thanks for this, mate. Appreciate it. Can I ask where you got that code? Wouldn't mind installing some other apps too.

        • +3

https://go.aftvnews.com/ is the URL shortener that works for the Downloader app on Amazon Fire TV and Google Android TV devices.

          • @uzz30: Thanks uzz30 - what url do you use in the shortened for Kayo? I used the Kayosports and got the website
            Thanks

  • I downloaded the Kayo app using above code. Anyone know why the app is not showing the usual Kayo skin on the app store? Shows as blank.

  • +2

336298 give that one a go… Kayo 1.3.17. Should have a kayo skin. Let me know if it works

    • Thanks. This worked for me!

  • Thanks. I tried using that code and it wasn't compatible with my version. I downloaded it straight from the Kayo apk for android using 406940. It updated the app to 1.3.17 however still no skin.

  • What version of Firestick are you running?

Anyone had any luck with the latest KAYO SPORTS update and a new apk for Firestick? I can't seem to get it to work…

    • +1

Kayo is now showing 2.0.0 and the above links to that apk now. However, it doesn't appear to work on my Firestick TV.

      • Same issue here, can’t get the new update version to open on Firestick 4K

        • I had the same issue. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled and it worked like a charm 😉

P.S: I downloaded the apk from apkmirror

      Cheers, Mate, absolute legend. 👍

  • Kayo said they no longer support FS. I have opened a ticket with them and sent a screenshot of the error messages I'm getting. After a while, Kayo stopped working with an error message saying this device was not supported.

    • I just now utilised the information in the comment above yours and I'm watching Sydney vs Carlton on my FS 4K max as I type this.

      • Which version do you have? I just noticed they released 2.0.1
        Mine is 2.0.0

        • The link above is 2.0.1.

  • Mine works for a while and crashes,, it says this device is not supported.. sometimes it goes for a couple of hours some time it only takes 10 to 15 min.

  • Anyone know how to get the latest version of kayo on fire stick 4K max? Mine stopped working today as says new upgrade needed.. I have 2.01 versions. Need a link for 2.02

In case anyone else comes across this: using the Kayo website through the Amazon Internet app works really, really well.

  • +1

406940 also works, updated this morning.

    • +1

There is actually a Kayo app for the firestick now so no need to sideload :)

  • +1

Kayo is now on the FireTV App Store… Bt I'm wondering if side loading the android TV version would enable 4k.

I can't see any reason at all why 4k isn't enabled.

    • +1

Tested and working perfectly. Perfect 4k simply by side loading a different apk, and yet 'my device is not supported'.

      • You're a legend. Got this working now too!

  • Care to share which kayo app you sideloades

    • I used the 2.2.1 APK that I was able to download online. It appeared to be from the Hubble Box.

Unfortunately it seems that Kayo clued on, and now 'force an upgrade' (downgrade) to the app on the Amazon App Store.

Scumbags. This is actually anti-competitive behaviour - intended to sell more Hubbl boxes.

2.3.2 now requires an update, but can’t install 2.3.4. Anyone found a way?

    • +1

Same issue here, I can get it to install but it throws a google play error.

      • How do you install? I can't even get that far after downloading from APKpure via 'Downloader' app

        • +1

Download via the downloader app, then install using "XAPKS" on the store. Just find the "downloads" directory and you should be able to install it.

    • Also hoping someone has found a way.

Have tried using an xapk installer on my vodafone tv and it does install successfully, however when opening the app it gets to the first splash screen (the grey screen with grey images of different balls etc in the background) but doesn't progress any further.

  • Can't you just use the Kayo app?

    • It doesn't support 4K streaming
