10m HDMI Cable to Connect 5.1 Home Theater to a 4k Projector

Hello Friends,

I'm in the search of a 10m HDMI cable to connect a 5.1 channel AV receiver to a 4k Projector. Can you throw me some suggestions? Not an audiophile.. so, better than average cables should do good. This is to connect a Yahama YHT-1840 to a yet to purchase 4k projector. I'll use a Amazon Firestick 4k max as the video source.
Don't need an expensive one.. But a couple of years warranty would be great. How about the Amazon Basic cables?
Came across Fiber Optic HDMI 2.1 cables. Do I need this? Looks to be for a better video transfer, but not 100% sure.
Saw some uni-direction cables? Can I use these?

Thanks in advance.

  • 10m is a lot to ask of a 4K 60hz HDR signal. Even 5m probably won't work. I'd look at having your media player, your Apple TV or whatever, closer to the projector using as short as possible HDMI cable, and using a long toslink cable or arc over a long HDMI to carry your audio from the projector to the receiver.

    • Thank you.. I'm looking to plug in an Amazon Firestick 4k Max to the Projector.
In this case can I use the Amazon Basic or the Bluerigger cable?

      • What's the model number of your projector.

        • Mostly be buying this - "ViewSonic PX748-4K"
I'm just trying to make a list of things needed and get them when I see a deal..

          • @samp365: I can't tell if that model has any audio out options. It just has 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, and it doesn't mention if either of the HDMI ports can act as ARC to carry audio out. This could be a problem for you if you want 4K 60hz with HDR going into the projector with your receiver being 10m away. 24hz might be fine (for movies) but 60hz and HDR is really pushing it.

            • @AustriaBargain: Sorry if my understanding is wrong.. We need to send the sound from the projector to the speakers. So, isn't just a basic HDMI does that? Where does the 4k comes in to picture. The video is coming from the Firestick to the projector…

              • @samp365: Ordinarily you'd plug your fire stick into the receiver and then HDMI from receiver to your TV. But you may find that sending a 4K signal at 60hz with HDR over a long HDMI cable won't work, it's too much data for many long cables. But maybe it will work, it's worth a shot. If it won't work for you then a surefire way of getting 4k at 60hz with HDR is to plug your fire stick straight into your projector.

                • @AustriaBargain: Got it.. I never thought of the option to plug in the Firestick to the A/V Receiver.. As I saw 2 HDMI ports for the Projector the plan was to plug that directly to the projector to avoid any lag and send the audio to the receiver..

Is there a benefit of plugging the Firestick to the AV Receiver instead of the Projector?

          • @samp365: The projector pnly supports HDMI: 2 (HDMI 2.0b, HDCP 1.4/2.2)

Try this may be : https://www.selby.com.au/brands/selby/10m-hdmi-2-0-4k-uhd-ca…

            • @apple2016: Sure.. The price also looks decent… Thank you.

  • Why do you need a 10m cable? The speaker cables should be plenty long.

The projector might come with a cable. If you need a longer one you should buy the same spec.

Ceiling mounted projector, run the cable through the ceiling, down a wall and out again to wherever your receiver is. Pretty much a necessity if the projector is in the middle of the room somewhere rather than at a rear wall of the room. Depending on the size of the room, 10m seems a reasonable ask.

There are plenty of 60hz 4K active cables around for exactly this purpose, Selby have a house branded one that says it can do it. I've never used it myself but Selby is one of the better stores to deal with, I imagine it works fine for the purpose. Cost a lot more than a 10m cable off Amazon, but that's where the "active" bit comes into it.

      • I'm looking to avoid the installation and the Projector will be placed behind the sofa set.. As the room is around 4.5m*4.5m.. Looking for a 10m wire..
I see that most of these cables are used to transfer 4k and 8k video.. But as we just need to send the audio.. Can we manage this with normal cable?

Will that even work? The HDMI ports on the projector are so you can have 2 inputs, not outputting audio. I'd make sure it can output audio first.

I had assumed you'd plug the amazon dongle into the receiver and run video out from that to the projector, that's how it normally works. It's nice, allows you to control everything from the receiver.

I had a similar setup once, projector and receiver were both behind the sofa. Extra speaker cables are much much cheaper and easier to run than HDMI cables so they were going through the ceiling and popping out where I wanted the front speakers.

          • @freefall101: Wow that's a nice idea.. Never thought of putting the receiver behind the sofa.. :)
I think this should solve most of the problems and as you said the speakers cable alone should be enough..
Once again thanks for the nice idea..

    • The speaker cables that come with the set are used to connect the behind speakers.. Not sure if we get a HDMI cable with the 5.1 Home Theater setup..

Hey mate, I bought few from Amazon and this is the only one that works for me. Feel free to ask any questions.

I run this from projector to one of the HDMI splitter that runs hdmi audio to my Yamaha ysp 3300.

    • Thanks a lot mate.. Will check this out.. Lots of good reviews and decent price.

  • You can use the generic cables from MSY "Cablelist 8K HDMI", i have the 10M and 5M they both are able to output 4K HDR 2160p at 60hz from my PC to the TV. just need to check stock levels. They are cheap too only ~$15 -$ 20.

    • Thanks mate..
