Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 Adapter - Need a Store Where I Can Return It if The Connection Does Not Work

Hi everyone, can use some help here.

I've got an old 27 inch Thunderbolt Display that I'd like to hook up to my current laptop (A Dell PC with Thunderbolt 4 port).

I've looked up how-to guides and apparently its a complicated process to hook it up with a PC. You need the $69 thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter from Apple + changes in bios settings .. and then it still does not work sometimes because .. apple.

Anyway, I'm happy to give it a go but not that happy to be stuck with an unusable $69 adapter. Is there a store where I can buy the adapter - try if it works for me - and then return if it does not? Its available on Amazon, Scorptec and Officeworks … but I'm not sure what change of mind policy applies for an opened cable. Has anyone ever pulled something like this?

I've tried looking at FB marketplace and Gumtree - nothing less than $50 for an old one.

  • Could you bring your devices to an apple store? Or the other stores themselves? They may not let you take one out, but might let you try it in the store?
Also worth checking second hand stores/marketplaces. Many of them if they no longer need the adapter anymore, essentially just want them gone.

    • Thanks, the apple store is a good idea. I'll call them and check

  • +1

If the item comes from Amazon AU they're usually pretty good with returns if you're a Prime customer, have a read here

    • Thanks, I did see the link. It says here - "Packaging must be unopened and seals intact (where applicable), except for fashion items, which can be opened; see Clothing, Jewellery, Shoes and Watches section"

Can't try the cable without opening the package :D

      • Ignore that, you'll be fine with Amazon, especially if you have Prime
