My Complaint about The LG C1

I just bought this TV and I cant believe it does not have this feature that all my older Sony and Samsung TV's have.

It does not have Auto shutdown/sleep after inactivity for 2 hours.

It has auto shut down after 4 hours After it was automatically turned on(does apply to me as I never have it auto turned on).

A manual sleep toggle that you must remember to turn on every time you switch on this TV.

so far owning this for 2 weeks i have fell asleep watching the TV and it was still on when i woke up in the morning..
This should be a standard feature for power saving and prevent burn ins…

Anyways, I've complained to LG and to their CEO, hopefully someone does something.

  • Sounds like others have been having similar issues with the C1, including the bit about the 4-hour auto-off somehow being optional depending on whether the TV feels like sleeping or not.

    • yep seems im not the only one, its something expected on all TV's

If it bugs you that much, buy an Amazon Firestick/Chromecast with Google TV, plug it into the HDMI-CEC port and use it's sleep settings

i have a chromecast, can you explain how this sleep setting works?

      • go to settings, go to the sleep option

I'm sure their CEO will get right on that for you

CEO is personally working on a firmware update as I type.

    probably

Make sure the CEO does not go flashing his firm ware everywhere it should not be flashed.

Have you tried turning off the television before going to sleep?

i sleep with the tv on lol, used to it turning off itself

I think it is a plot by Big Power.

Easy method: Connect the TV via a smart plug and set a timer to turn it off after few hours into the night assuming you'd have fallen asleep by then.
Better method: Connect the TV via a smart plug and use a smart motion sensor to detect no movement (you sleeping) and turn the TV off after 30 minutes of inactivity in the room.

However I'm sure there won't be a need to look for a workaround as the LG CEO would provide you a custom firmware with the auto turn off feature within a day or two followed by a visit and an apology in person.

thanks but i'm sure the smart plug cutting power off to the TV while running will do more damage then good

      • yup, pretty sure the manual says not to do this; otherwise you miss the Pixel Refresh …

Yeah, ok. You bought the LG because you wanted a 2h sleep mode? Lol

    It’s product differentiation.

no i bought this because it was of the highest rating TVs of 2021 (some awarded it as the best of 2021)
but i didn't know it doesn't turn itself off as i expect this to be on all TV's in the this era

      • +7

You can expect anything you like but the fact that it's a feature you wanted but didn't check for before purchasing is totally on you.

It reminds me of a car review I saw that listed the "lack of AM radio" as a Con in a 2020 Porsche 911 πŸ˜‚

          • @lachhelix: To be fair that would be pretty bloody annoying if you listen to a lot of AM. Which a lot of people do, particularly those who can afford a 911…

  • Granted I only have a C9 but there's a sleep timer button on my model at the very least. It comes up on the left hand side when I hit the settings/cog button on the remote.
That's what I used to use at least when I used to watch TV to help sleep - queue up a few episodes, set the sleep timer to an hour and off I went.

    • Yeh thats what i do now, except sometimes I forget to do it lol

      • Sorry I must have skimmed over the part where you mentioned the manual sleep toggle.

I just checked my c9 and there appears to be a "timer power off" function? Set it to roughly 2 hours after you normally go to bed (e.g. 2am) and it should shut itself off at that time?

also using that as a back up now. thanks

  • Have you asked the assistant if she can do this?
Before anyone complains, the LG assistant with the TV.

  • yes, you can speak to google assistant or alexa and ask to put on sleep in 1hour, quicker to toggle the sleep setting from tv.. but again you have to remember to do it.
