Wait is this going from free to 7 bucks a month…

Optus marketing staff: "They figured it out boss."

However, eligible Optus Customers will be offered a discounted subscription of $6.99 per month, a saving of over 70%

So generous, charging me $6.99 for something that used to be free.

  • +3

More importantly, how do I unsubscribe from Optus Sport so I'm not charged this going forward!

    • This. There is currently no option to remove it.

      • +2

"Optus will contact you in the coming weeks to confirm how the changes affect you. If you no longer wish to subscribe, you will also receive information on how to unsubscribe."

    • +1

Just cancelled it through the MyOptus app.

Go to "service", then "add ons"

      • +1

not charging until the August billing cycle, still free until then.

    • +2

I just removed it from Service - Add ons in the Optus app.

      • Mine only has an option to "Activate" in the app. It's already active!

Price increase isnt a bargain 🥹

  • More of a forum than a deal…

  • Isn’t this not going to be offered as part of a free subscription when we are on Optus?

looks like time to dump Optus mobile plans…

  • +11

Holy hell, $24.99 a month and still without Champions League. Dreaming.

  • +1

At $7 p/m, it's worth it. At $25, much different proposition.

    • +1

At that price I would continue for sure. But at $24.99 it's a hard no from me, I could already hardly justify $14.99 for just the Premier League and occasional internationals. And what has changed? More women's football? Sorry but no one cares.

  • +1

I'm still sitting on a long gone $25pmth mobile plan with them which includes free Optus sport. Who the hell is paying $25 a month just for the sport?

    • If they had the soccer Market. (EPL, UEFA, Championship, A-league,etx) Sure maybe… they would have your cornered

    • +1

I'm on the old $25/m mobile plan too. Have decided to port out to current kogan $150 - 500Gb plan offer and if I really want OS, can sub to annual $200 plan and still be better off then paying $32/m just for OS. Also getting more data from Kogan per year.

      • Yep exactly. Personally, I'm not sure it's worth $200 a year anyway!

          heard of google?

    • Are you asking about legitimate sources or soccer streams?

    Cancel Optus Sports :
Mobile My Optus App -> Service -> Add-ons -> Optus Sport -> Remove Optus Sport

  • -3

Looks like all the rubbish sports left over that kayo don't cover.

  • damm,,, i am getting optus sports with my optus internet… so they going to charge me for Optus sports ??

  • Nope.

  • +6

Hmmm, I stopped short of negging this, but I do think it was probably warranted.

I don't see how a significant price increase (from free to $7, or from $15 to $25) is a "deal."

You can argue all day about whether it's worth the money or not, but price increase does not equal deal. Belongs in the Forums surely.

  • This is a price increase not a deal. $25 per month, I have to seriously consider whether to keep premier league. I'll certainly cancel it now whilst it's off season.

  • +2

In what world is price increase a deal?

  • Tell him he's dreamin

  • $25 a month hahahahahahahahahahahahahha

  • Opposite of an Oz bargain.

  • OzPricejack

  • Optus on its way of becoming Floptus soon.

  • +1

Not condoning this, but I can see many people sailing the high seas again come August.

  • -1

I’m going to positive this comment, when I work out how, so I know to cancel. Watched 2 free games in the past 5 years or so that this has been free. If I didn’t see this it might have cost me $6.99 :)

    • +1

That logic is a car crash

  • Ouch! No thanks Optus

  • Presumably the charge is only for those getting Optus Sport via mobile.
It's an inclusion on a lot of home broadband bundles, and there doesn't appear to be any mechanism for them to change it when they have advertised it as included at "no extra cost"

  • +2

Honestly the more I thought on this the more annoying it is.

They either over reached and spent too much on rights which they are now clawing back through (presumably) loyal customers, or, they had a plan to jack up the prices all along.

Typically businesses would be planning fy23 budgets now so that’s probably why the price hike is at the start of FY - so they can recognise the increased revenue all year - instead of July they have probably realised there’s not a hope in hell of it flying out of football season and delayed to august.

They need to take a good long look at their content proposition because compared to Kayo, Netflix or whatever, it’s shite.

    • Exactly… they have more expensive plans compared to Telstra now so why would I keep going with optus??

    • optus paid more 3 times than what foxtel used to pay. overpaid big time for it and then pass the pain to epl fans…

  • +1

Optus better be making this Opt-in for those who have received this free as a part of their plans. If they don’t, can see this being a massive ACCC headache

    • +1

I suspect everyone has agreed to terms that allow price changes if notified xx days in advance (usually 28 or 30).

I work in subscription marketing/strategy, they would have all of these bases covered.

      • +1

yeh, inhouse legal team would have reviewed this change, so I doubt there will be any issues there.
But that doesn't stop people making TIO complaints, and every time telco get a complaint, telco need to pay TIO whether it is their fault or not

  • +2

"we were thrilled to announce we will remain your home of the Premier League for another six years, signalling an exciting new era"

haha. new era of unrealistic pricing and both mobile and sports customer leaving.

per month costs more than netflix and Disney+ combined. Well done.

  • How do i unsubscribe from subhub?

  • Is World cup on Optus?

    • It is, I'm looking for a sub to watch it.

  • How on earth is this a deal and just what were/are they thinking? Pay more for less content?

  • +1

I don't have Optus mobile or sports but this is clearly a spit on their customers so I'll be adding my neg

  • Just planning to sign up with Optus NBN since it comes with Sports but now that they are charging, nothing special about them. Telstra/ABB, here I come.

  • Not seeing a bargain here

    • -2

      Should have gone to Specsavers

  • I always think that Optus sports is free with an internet service in Optus. Just found that it's going to charge me from 1st August…. What a pain!

  • Just cancelled mine, so many people are going to get burnt who don't monitor emails very closely. I didn't even know about the change until 5 mins ago when I saw it in an email and you have to opt out if you don't want to get charged. What a joke.

    • Yeah, I'm lucky I noticed so that my wife could cancel her's. She usually just automatically deletes emails from Optus.

  • There is now an option to "unsubscribe from August changes" via my service, add-ons on the app. Takes you to subhub.

  • they sent me an email as well, increasing the internet from 80 to $85 and sports from free to $7.00

  • Just got my email saying my free monthly sport will change to $6.99 a month. Later Optus. Time to port out.

  • Looks like they went and gave everyone a wedgie. And upped the price from free wedgies to $6.99 a month wedgies. Regrettable.

  • +1

I just got off the phone from Optus. The girl said that on my old data plan I got Optus Sport for free so if I subscribe through SubHub I'll get a $6.99 credit on my next bill. I asked her to put notes on the account about this otherwise I'll call for a credit next month if I get charged.

I also asked about the Amazon Prime price increase from $6.99 to $9.99. she looked and said there is no price increase for SubHub customers. I logged into my SubHub to add Optus Sport and it says Amazon is now $9.99. She's obviously taking BS.

  • This deal will now expire this year as of Aug 1st the subscription price will be $9.99/mo
